Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 19th February 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone.

I’ve wakened early…I think I’ve knocked my routine out again. So I’ve spent the last while reading yesterday’s thread…

Chocolate orange, I hope that your op went well. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Gingham, I hope you’re beginning to feel a bit better after your fall. ((hugs))
Penny, How did the interview go?
Tru, well done on giving up the cigarettes.
Stefiejb, I hope that things work out ok for your dd.
meanmarie, I’m excited for you! Hopefully by the time you read this you will be a grandma again.
Smokey, still thinking of you and hope that Dh is continuing to improve. xx
Stressedoutmumof1, I hope that your dad’s ok and will be feeling better soon.
Snowy, I can’t believe you are finally getting broadband! Fancy a visitor to help you to set it up? Perhaps not…it would be the blind leading the blind! :D
Aussie, poor you with all those storms. Keep safe. xx
Haribo, for the last time, will you stop messing with people’s posts! ;):D

Half term is over here and we’re all back to normal…it was lovely having the kids at home. I really enjoyed the lack of routine and seeing a bit of colour in our youngest’s cheeks because he’s been playing outside non stop, thanks to the lovely weather we’ve had over the last week.

One of the things I promised to do with him was to ‘play’ with him and the cookbook that he got for Christmas. On Friday night he made a chilli for us all and it was not only edible, but tasted really good! Last night he made us a knickerbocker glory for dessert… the kitchen was a shambles afterwards but the end result was yummy! He was so chuffed that we all enjoyed it! It’s lovely to see a seven year old so enthusiastic about [strike]playing[/strike] [strike]messing [/strike] [strike] creating havoc[/strike] being in the kitchen.

Today I have just the usual tidying and cleaning stuff to do and then later I might practice making pastry. Did I tell you that I made successful short crust pasty yesterday for the first time? It’s been something I’ve always bought readymade because anytime I tried to make it myself it tasted horrible, but d Mil visited earlier this month and made it look so easy that for the first time in my life I envied her! ;) You know the feeling, well if she can do it then I can! And I did! :j I made a lovely salmon pie/quichey thing yesterday and it worked! I’m going to have another go today with a cheese and ham pie for the lunchboxes tomorrow.

Tea tonight will be (yellow sticker) salmon fillets cooked in the oven, baked potatoes with broccoli, leek and cauliflower cheese….then, unfortunately, I have to go to work.

I hope you all have a good day.

  • Morning Pink :hello: and a big hello to all those sleepyheads to follow:p

It's foggy here! Can't see across the street at the moment, hopefully it will clear once the sun is up. Yesterday I went on my usual Monday walk along our local canal bank - the canal was totally frozen over! Have never seen that before - all the poor ducks and coots were sliding and slipping all over the place. The canal boats were all frozen in the water - but by the time we came back from our walk, the coal delivery barge had arrived so had ploughed through the ice leaving a watery trail for the ducks to swim in. It seemed very strange though since the sun was out and actually felt quite hot on our backs as we walked.

Today is cleaning day :( and I really must get the kitchen sorted out. I used up some out of date eggs yesterday in a fruit cake for OH and the black bananas went into a banana loaf so we're pretty well sorted for treats, so no excuse not to scrub the worktops and cooker down really.

That's lovely news about your DS - mine, who is now 21, has rediscovered his Cooking for Students book and is working his way through it up at uni - last week's effort was Chicken Stroganoff and Banoffee Pie. I can't wait for him to come home for Easter to put him to work in the kitchen :rotfl: (well actually I just can't wait for him to come home ;) ). It's such a great skill to have at any age.

The fridge is almost empty (shopping tomorrow) so today's meals are a bit of a mish mash, made up of leftovers from the freezer.

MeanMarie, I hope the new baby has arrived safely by now.
Hugs to Penny Pincher, Chocolate Orange, Smokey, SOMO1 and anyone else who needs them.

    Have a great day!

Morning PINK and Mrs FLITTERSNOOP and all who follow.

It's freezing cold here, too, but when the sun comes out it's lovely; it's so nice to draw back the curtains and see a bright sky, especially for this time of year. We've had some beautiful sunsets, too and I can't believe I'm pegging washing out on the line in February and it's actually drying!

CHOCOLATE ORANGE - hope everything went well for you.

STRESSEDOUT - hope your Dad is on the mend.

Well, DH should have started a 5 day job on a new contract yesterday but the main contractors made a mistake about the start date; they don't seem particularly organised about any of the work and take their time letting the workers know what's going on. They've said he can start the work next week but, fortunately, he is not relying on them and has two private jobs coming up; one of them he can do this week and the other one will take the following three weeks. He's told the main contractors that he will let them know when he's available. How I wish his work was less erratic - it drives me mad because I never seem to know what's going on from one day to the next and I find it hard to plan anything for myself. It makes for an erratic income, too, which I hate. Makes financial planning very difficult.

Anyway, enough of the moaning. I didn't get to the gym yesterday, mainly because DH was in and out all morning so I am determined to go today. I have some paperwork and the inevitable office-organising to do, some letters to write and a Mother's Day card and birthday card to make. I'm doing a quick spaghetti bolognese for dinner and I'm babysitting for the grandchildren tonight so that's most of my day sorted out.

Well, I think I'll have a go on the comps thread now - I've neglected that lately.

Hope you all have a great day.

    See you later.

    :D morning

An early one from me this morning, OH's car alarm went off at 4am:mad: must have been a cat or something:confused: so he has gone off to work and I have just had my breakfast of 2 boiled eggs.
Had a headache for a couple of days which turned into a migraine, I don't usually get them but when I do it make me sick, I think driving with bright sunshine doesnt help:confused:
Going to a meeting tonight which should be interesting, I have some chicken pieces to put in the slow cooker but can't decide to have honey and mustard or curry:confused:
Off for a mooch, hope everyone is well and has a good day.
  • G'morning everyone.

Pink, can you send your son round here, please? Sounds like he's turning into a great old styler!

Chocolate orange, I hope you're comfortable today.

Good luck with the placement today studentgirl.

Well, I'm fairly comfortable today but have been awake for hours as the baby has been feeding all night. I think he may have an ear infection too as his older brother has one. Seems to be the time of year where they just get one thing after another. Poor wee things. Anyway, I've left the baby cuddled up in bed with his dad so I may be awake but at least I'm getting some peace and quiet!

I have some cleaning to do then I'm going to make some rolls to freeze for my lad's belated birthday party on Friday...doh he's awake again...better go...have a good day everyone

Edit: rest of the OS stuff! Made some dough in the breadmaker yesterday and my lad and his friend made little mice and hedgehogs and frogs then we left them to rise and baked them. GREAT way to pass half an hour. Foors need doing again and the hoovering if I can manage it. Swish the bathroom and dust. If there is time/energy left I'll try to organise some party games for Saturday.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Morning. Another cold start to the day, but no frost today.
Small dilema today as daughter is unwell and I am not sure who will have to stay home and look after her. Both of us have work commitments that are hard to miss.... I am sure we will sort it out.
I will still have to make packed lunches for the rest of them though.
Last day at work anyway and then 5 days off. I don't need the time off but if I don't use up my holiday by April, they take it away.

Well folks have a nice day

    Morning All

Sorry didn't make it, too busy socialising with DS and mate, but we had a reasonable bedtime last night, and I was driving so awake early today. It was 3 am Sunday morning, we gave in at 2 am Monday morning but he lads arrived back at 5am. Last night they were too tired to drink once it got to 10pm. Lightweights.

Had my hair cut and blowdried yesterday, I was trying to wait to get back to my Uk hairdresser, but it was just too out of shape. This one did a good job luckily, so now I know I am OK over here. Went into the local supermarket to order two folding bikes, this was around lunchtime, 5 days to get 2 they said, OK (they only had one in stock) 4pm had a phone call to say they were waiting for us, so collecting them this morning. Going to the shopping centre with the lads after that, think I feel someone trying to spend out money again.

Rather than listing everyone again, can I just pass on my good wishes/thoughts/hugs to Pink's list above. Pen-Pin - hope your Pleurisy has eased a little. Moiliere - hope the work comes through for your DH. and DS gets well soon N9eav. (((hugs))) to anyone else needing/liking one, off to grab a coffee.
    Take care DG

    Morning All!
I'm finally back, after the drama of the last few weeks, got to get on with my life now, even tho it's hard. Thanks to all you lovely people who sent me PM's and messages of support.:heart2:
:grouphug: to anyone who needs it!
Got a fair bit done yesterday, sorted out some of my Mamma's banking, doing the main account today, and picking up her will soo I can sort out the insurance. I never realised that there was so much to do when someone dies, it feels like it's going on forever.

DS is asleep (no surprise there then:rotfl: ) he's been fending for himself over the last few weeks. Still it's good for him, I spoil him too much!

Looks cold here too, cars are frosty. Last night's sunset, and this morning's sunrise were magnificent, I love watching them.

    Have a good day all!:T
