Help Please - My domain is trapped...

Can you give the name so we can look more into it for you? Or have you tried one of the domain forums?
I can't see leaving tiscali making any difference, how did you point to that web space was it simple re-directing or changing the name servers?
In the whois details you give, it all looks like you still own the name, one thing that jumps out at me is the "renewal request being processed". Is this a request you have made? Or it could be someone else trying to transfer it.0 -
I don't think they will help right now, but by registering you will be able to prove you are the owner of that name should you need to in the future.
If you send them an Email today you will have the registration certificate by Wednesday.
I am thinking of it like a cross checking excersise.
And they have:
Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)
Telephone: +44(0)1865 332211
Email: drs@nominet.org.uk
Fax: +44(0)1865 332292
What is the Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)?
Nominet control all UK domains. All companies that sell .uk domains mus register to do so via nominet and agree to their terms. Nominet are great they'll advise you and are fair. If your .uk has messed up they'll sort it. They have the power to release any .UK domain you own back to you from any host.0 -
I'd speak to nominet about this. They control UK domains and have he power to give you your domain back regardless of what fasthosts say. You might need to pay a fee to another host if nominet tell fasthost to release your domain. By the way nominet can do extreme things to hosts for not doing what they are told to do...like stopping them selling domains.
I don't think that's the problem at all. The OP still owns the domain and it's in their control. It's just that they can't also use fasthosts as their host since fasthosts system for some reason won't allow it while there is still an account for which the domain had previously been associated. So to reiterate the domain is still in the OP's ownership and there doesn't seem to be anything stopping them forwarding it to any other hosting company."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Superscaper is absolutely right. Nominet have told me they've no jurisdiction over hosting in this instance, and the only thing I can do is try and get the original owners of my domain to cancel their account with Streamline. If thats not possible, I'll just have to forward to a different host.
Thanks for all the input, everyone0 -
Have you tried forwarding it to a blank page hosted on your ISP free web space?
If that works just leave it untill you have your page up and running then you have no problem.0 -
I don't have any free webspace any more since Mr Phirefly in his infinite wisdom cancelled our tiscali broadband in a fit of moneysaving peak without checking with me. I checked the boxes on my account last night though that had set forwarding to the generic tiscali holding page, and now the domain is directing to that instead of Visual Vomit. I need to get some webspace asap but am waiting on the outcome with Streamline cancelling the account with the other me.0

Who is your ISP?
Everyone has free web space.
If not signup to a PAYG dialup (maybe Orange) and you will have some then.
If you do DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE, when you get to that point just download it and open it with notepad, inside will be all the information you need to set up the account manually.0 -
Yeah, good point. We're with be* but I hadn't looked into using my webspace with them as I was hoping this would all just be resolved and I could just set up my fasthosts hosting.
Not only that, my old site is a shambles, but I spose I could just whack up a holding page. Its having the time though, I'm working out my notice at my full time job while working an additional 40+ hours a week for my freelance customers. I don't have time to scratch my bottom let alone mess about with temporary web hosting...0 -
Yeah, looks like Be dont do free web space.Up to 16 static IPs available
Be home email and webspace is available to pro members.
More coming soon
Home email bundle

Wish I could get Be.0 -
Glad to see everything turned out OK in the end.
If it's any consolation your problems prompted me to check my domains, some of which are due for renewal in the next couple of weeks, and I realised that I hadn't updated my old credit card details. I'm not sure what would have happened if I hadn't added my new details but it's all sorted now (not that anybody would want my domains!). But I would recommend that everybody checks their details and nominet registration to avoid possible problems.0
