Help Please - My domain is trapped...

hello, veteran MSE-er, newbie to Techie Stuff....

I have a domain name registered with UKreg. For a while, I used my free web hosting that came with our tiscali broadband, and forwarded my UKreg domain to that tiscali hosting.

We cancelled our tiscali broadband a while ago. (And naturally, my website ceased to be hosted - you just get a tiscali holding page now) The time has come for me to upgrade my UKreg account to a web hosting package, but when I called them to do this, I was told my domain was being hosted elsewhere, with streamline.net. I can only assume that somehow when we cancelled our tiscali broadband, I got passed over to them.

I tried to release myself from streamline, but they won't let me do anything without my username and password, but as I never registered, I don't have these details. When I requested a user name and password reminder, they asked me to confirm digits from the card I used to register, but again I can't do this as I never registered.

I have tried calling the helplines of UKreg, Streamline and Tiscali but got nowhere.

I'm going out of my head here, I'm becoming self-employed on Monday and have my first client meeting on Tuesday, I need this all sorted... HELP!!!!

Do a whois search and find out who is actually the domain registrar. They should be able to redirect any hosting services to anywhere by updating the name servers.

BUT... oh my word, I thought I had a bit of technical knowledge but I didn't understand a word of that - whats a 'whois search' and a 'domain registrar'?

*edit* ok so I've found whois, but it won't let me search for a .co.uk suffix?

That'll sort you out. You'll see the domain registrar listed on the results page.

Go to https://www.nominet.org.uk . In the top right hand corner is a 'whois' box. Just type your address in here, including the .co.uk bit and it'll give a range of information which should include the registrar and name servers info.

Oh my god I can't believe this its gone from bad to worse...

Theres now someone else using my domain, what the hell do I do now???? How can someone be using my domain when its registered to me????

I can not see how canceling tiscali would make any difference to your domain name hosting, unless you bought it through tiscali.

When did it expire?

Are you sure you have the correct name .com .uk .org etc?

Did you have an account with nominet and printed out the certificate.

Ok this is a completely different issue.

I checked a couple of days ago and it was still forwarding to Tiscali, I ceased the forwarding via my UKreg account, but at that point didn't check what heppened when you went to my address.

now someones using it... How can this be? I renewed my domain name subscription before it expired.

Please someone help, i'm really stressing out here....

I am a bit lost, you said someone else was using it but in your post from whois you have your name etc.

Are you saying it is someone elses name in the listing?

Ok I feel I can't expect anyone to help unless I reiterate the facts

I registered my domain with UK reg a couple of years ago
I forwarded my domain to my free Tiscali webspace where my website was hosted
We cancelled our tiscali broadband
I renewed my domain name registration with UKreg before it lapsed
I stopped UKreg forwarding my domain to tiscali with a view to upgrading my UKreg account to include web hosting
I just realised after I started this thread that someone's now using my domain name for their site

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Would have been better to have posted the whois without editing it.

But I can see why you would want to hide personal details.
