Are you on an expensive tell No?
I noticed in the whois they had a national rate number. Not sure if it would work as I never tried it.Mark Wood

I've nicked Mr.Phirefly's phone.
Gutted. My fat juicy new monitor arrived today and I was looking forward to spending all evening marvelling at how I no longer have to collapse my palettes and instead i've been making use of the fact I can get about 20 minimised tabs along the bottom of it0 -
ok so....
Apparently, while the other Me let their domain registration lapse long enough for me to purchase it, it seems their webhosting has stood the test of time.
Basically, the site using my domain is not some recent hacker, its actually the ORIGINAL site on that domain. They did not renew the domain, but it seems that Streamline.net are still hosting their site. Since I bought the domain, I've been forwarding it to tiscali, thus overriding the site on streamline. When I unchecked the forwarding option today, it reverted back to streamline hosting.
The spanner in the works is that this streamline outfit is a part of fasthosts. This is why its saying that my domain has another FH account when I try and upgrade. Also for some reason it means I cannot override it by forwarding to my own FH hosting *and breathe*
The helpful spod at FH said that if I can get Streamline to delete that account, I can upgrade my FH account and host my site with them. Whats the likelyhood, anyone?
If not, I'll have to buy my hosting elsewhere and forward my domain to that. Which is a nuisance because I don't have the time nor inclination to shop around and was happy to go with FH because not only did it keep my bits and bobs all in one place, they've been recommended to me by people I trust. At least my domain is safe though
not very exciting in the end, eh? :rolleyes:0 -
Unless the original owner wants it back.
And instead of you being taken over it was infact them.
Anyway I am glad you sorted it and don't forget to register with nominet.
Edit:
Cant wait to see your site.0 -
You'll be waiting a while, I've taken it down for a complete overhaul, the first one took me about a year to do!
So if I can't get Streamline to close the other account and I have to find alternative webhosing, can anyone recommend something comparable to the fasthosts package I was planning to sign up for?0 -
I'm really surprised fasthosts can't disassociate the domain name from that site. It's your domain name now not theirs and you should be able to point it to whoever you want. Maybe it's possible to keep your fasthosts hosting but just transfer the domain name to another company to forward to it."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Well Streamline have just been in touch sayingA ticket has been sent to the account holder confirming the cancellation of
this account once this has been replied to we can cancel the account so you
can use this with fast hosts.
I doubt they'll get a reply though...0 -
I'd speak to nominet about this. They control UK domains and have he power to give you your domain back regardless of what fasthosts say. You might need to pay a fee to another host if nominet tell fasthost to release your domain. By the way nominet can do extreme things to hosts for not doing what they are told to do...like stopping them selling domains.0
