i wasn't bothered to post initially,as people are getting in a bit of a tizzy over thisminor matter. However, i think the line should be drawn at insulting other board members-especially when the use of pathetic sterotypes is introduced.

I realy dislike that you have chosen to describe Curiosity Kitten as a smug feminist-.I didn't realise that feminism was a terrible crime? Also, CK is rather obviously fighting the corner for blokes here not women-she's trying to ensure that men get get this discount too...duh! Would you have written the same reply if a man had written her post?

I also don't see a problem with someone trying to make this offer open to the wider public(Even if it is a mothers day promotion) at the end of the day it Seems their offer is legally discriminatory -so Malmaison are in the wrong not CK. I thought her post was actually the most intelligent post written on this topic so far! and not at all whingy or narrow minded(unlike your view on women with intelligence)

Thank you for proving the point I made in my original post. As I said, "What is it with you people?"

For the record, I have no wish for CK or anyone else to "fight the corner for blokes here". What I do want is for them to recognise that this is a perfectly harmless publicity stunt aimed at bringing a bit of enjoyment to mums and grans in celebration of Mothers' Day. What on earth is wrong with that? And what sort of person could reasonably find fault with it?

Now, it seems, Malmaison may withdraw their offer, thereby depriving women of a little excitement and luxury at an affordable price. Well, I hope the Curiosity Kittens and moomin-whites are satisfied with their victory - and sad to say, I should not be surprised if they are, such is the strange world they inhabit.

Also for the record, my sentiments would be the same had the poster been a man. Unfortunately, neither gender has the monopoly on foolish political correctness.

Finally, madam (for such I assume you are), I did not and do not resent intelligent women. I respect them equally with the male. My resentment is directed at people of either gender who insist on poking their noses into issues, seeking mischief where none is intended, and generally making this world a little more dreary whenever they succeed in their petty aims.

Such people are an irritant and a source of much trouble. I do wish they would content themselves with quietly reading their Guardian or Independent and leave the rest of us alone.
  • I've thanked you Gordon...as the Malmaison offer is definitely sexist...and then I had a sudden chill come over me that you might not have been being ironic!! Please say it was a tongue in cheek post!

Yes I was being ironic don't worry, I thought I had made it clear enough that it was tongue in cheek with the line "The price is doubled for 1 legged, lesbian dwarves"

I'm not quite so much against it now I know it is available to men and women (which I knew was illegal if it was only available to men)

I still think the age discrimination thing is wrong and should be covered by the law in the same way sex discrimination is. Someone said would we be against free bus passes for pensioners and student discounts?

I have no objection to student discounts, as they are people on a low income training to be on a high income (something which we should encourage people to do) students are not all 16 year olds either, heard of mature students?

As for the free bus passes for pensioners, I'm all for it, people who have mostly worked all their lives and paid taxes who are now also on a low income. On the other hand I would not support a 10% discount when you're 60, rising to 20% at 70, 30% at 80, 40% at 90 and so on.
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

If you do like it please hit the thanks button.
  • Further to my last post - email just back from Lynette Avery at Malmaison - she confirmed the offer is open to both men and women - I suggested she might want to raise the issue with their PR department to clear up any confusion at their end....

There is no suggestion they plan to withdraw the offer for any reason.

That's it on the hotel issue...but I just wanted to say also...
I seem to have annoyed at least one person...this wasn't my intention - just noticed the offer seemed to exclude 50% of Moneysavers (unlawfully) and this bothered me.

This was my first post. I thought the Moneysaving community was a friendly one and I was pretty hurt to see the rather swingeing personal comments. Really puts a downer on one's Sunday... :(

Anyway, I wish you well, renard, and happy money-saving - I'm sorry my comments wound you up.

Thanks moomin_white for your kind paw of support. x

Have a lovely Mothers' Day everybody. :hello:

not bothered about whether its for old people only but they obviously think us men dont have mothers....oh well their loss

I know that it has now been confirmed that this offer is open to both men and women but the discount is related to the age of the oldest person on the booking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't your mother be older than you? So the discount would be going on the age of the mother, not the person who made the booking.

Even if your mother had been born on 29 February (and so only had a birthday every four years) her age is the number of years since birth, not the number of birthdays.
  • I booked this offer for my Mum who is in her 80,s. It will be a real treat for her and I won,t feel that I have burst my budget because it was a bargain. Then i looked at these threads and couldn,t believe some of the posts. Should we ban mothers day because it discriminates against men?. Should we ask Martin not to adverise any offer that is not open to everyone (there are plenty I cannot use because the shop etc is nowhere near where i live). I hope Malmaison group put the offer on for fathers day but perhaps they won,t know because of all the bleating. The women who will get the best deal are those who lived through the war and know what hardship is. How can anyone begrudge them a little bit of spoiling? Really
  • I think the hotel has got it all wrong.Give the discount to the 'bored' teenagers so us olduns can feel safe to roam the streets at night instead of hiding in posh hotels!

Oh the irony! I'm not the "PC" brigade, quite the opposite to be honest.

I see age discrimination happening very very often, more so than on the grounds of gender, sexuality etc etc, it just goes unnoticed, but this is so blatent!

Could you imagine if they'd said "Woman can have a 75% discount"? Actually, bad example because that'd probably be seen as fine, scrub that, what if they'd said "Men can have a 75% discount, but women only a 10% discount" - there would be an outcry, they'd be getting sued, fined and all sorts.

What about if they were offering straight people at 90% discount but gay people only a 20% discount?

    It's rediculous.

I'm not PC by any stretch of the imagination (you don't know me, but I'm not, trust me) but this is just wrong.

It's a MOTHERS DAY offer so the restrictions make total sense or the offer wouldn't have any gimic! You're completely over reacting. I actually really like the idea.
  • Where are you coming from?
Are they taking money out of your pocket?
You're a killjoy and no mistake!

I bet you also make every statement sound like a question as well - just like the Americans and Australians do??!!!!!!!

This made me chuckle.... "americanIZE everything" - shouldn't it be the English "ise" instead? We could get into a heated debate on lexicography and etymology blah blah blah. Yawn, yawn, yawn.

And wsanderson has also (inadvertently or not) discriminated against Americans and Aussies.

Nice little offer anyway from Malmaison, hope people enjoy it, whether man, woman, animal or mineral. Get in line folks!
  • I'm amazed that people are up in arms about a Mother's Day promotion. How miserly. I suppose you'd rather there was no promotion at all, just because you're not getting it?
