Oh the irony! I'm not the "PC" brigade, quite the opposite to be honest.

I see age discrimination happening very very often, more so than on the grounds of gender, sexuality etc etc, it just goes unnoticed, but this is so blatent!

Could you imagine if they'd said "Woman can have a 75% discount"? Actually, bad example because that'd probably be seen as fine, scrub that, what if they'd said "Men can have a 75% discount, but women only a 10% discount" - there would be an outcry, they'd be getting sued, fined and all sorts.

What about if they were offering straight people at 90% discount but gay people only a 20% discount?

    It's rediculous.

I'm not PC by any stretch of the imagination (you don't know me, but I'm not, trust me) but this is just wrong.

I was in line to enter a nightclub a few weeks ago... women got free entry, men had to pay a fiver. (ahhhhhh discrimination!)
whilst in the nightclub if you could prove it was your birthday you got a free drink (ahhhhhhh discrimination)
That very same nightclub in blackpool would once charge locals £3 to get in and tourists £6. "just confirm your postcode" the woman on the door said. (ahhhh discrimination!!)
I was once refused a meal and drink in a pub because I have epilepsy... (ahhhhh discrimination!)
In football stadiums disabled people can get free entry (ahhhhhh why do i have to pay.....)
Tesco didnt have any of those 75% off vouchers in my local stores, but northern england is saturated with them.... (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks liverbird!... but discrimination)

the point im trying to make is that I could walk out of my door this very minute and within 10 minutes find some form of discrimination. Is it annoying? a little... but there's little you can do about it.

This is a good offer, it's nicely marketed and it will appeal to a lot of people. I just think you should accept it in the spirit it was intended.

People who say this offer discriminates against younger people will probably find all discounts for over 60's offensive too (why give them free bus passes, let them walk) and of course won't ever take advantage of them if they get to that age, right? ;)

I don't think this is discriminating in any way. The offer is open to everyone. EVERYONE gets a discount which relates to how old you are. If you're not old enough to get a bigger discount, that's just your tough !! Would you complain that you're not young enough to get reduced fare on the bus, or that you're not old enough to get a free bus pass...? Would you eckkers like !!
  • Looks like my 91 year old grandad does have some uses
  • this is a promotion to get people to visit that otherwise wouldn't. If you would not normally go and find this offer offensive then siply dont go you plonker!!

if you would not normally visit but find this offer tempting then its good marketing.

ps by replying to offers (even in a negative capacity) you are actually helping in its promotion - i.e if you dont like it just SHUT UP!!! otherwise you are actually helping it!!

More pressing for me at the moment is: has the hotel site gone down? Or is it just my stupid computer misbehaving again?

Update 12pm Weds 20 Feb: Although we were led to believe this promotion was open to all, unfortunately Malmaison's PR team has just informed us that only women are able to receive this discount (even though this isn't stated on the Malmaison website).

My possible discount has just gone down by 27% :(

I'm not overly bothered by this, but it seems strange to deliberately discriminate on the grounds of both age and gender...especially in favour of the old and ladies...

Last time I checked, males between 20 and 30 have the highest disposable income, so surely they should be targetting these people with the promotions - as they're the people most likely to return to a hotel at full rate.

Still, I suppose it might get them some free advertising in the news...
