I often pick up grated cheese on offer (ie drastically reduced) and freeze it. That way you can take out just what you want for pizza toppings, sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc.
I have no problems freezing any hard cheese, but have never tried Brie etc.
Perhaps chop and wrap the cheeses into portions, so you don't have to take a whole block out and use it.0 -
It freezes quite well, it's fine.
I bought a big stack of Colliers Welsh when it was £2 in Tesco, and froze it all. I took a pack out of the freezer yesterday to use for sandwiches and on baked potato this week.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I freeze cheddar types of cheese but haven't tried soft cheeses. I bought 4 X 400g packs for 69p each in Tesco last week, I cut them into 100g portions they defrost quickly and are a great way of taking advantage of offers.0

Thanks all,
It is a good point if I don't freeze it now there is a high risk of it spoiling before I get to have my operation, plus seeing my favourite food i.e. cheese, in the fridge when I can't eat it is not nice:(
The open packs I have passed to my mum who joyfully took them and made me feel good as she gave me some chicken breasts yesterday, something I don't buy as so pricey.
Cheers folks :jGC 2011

Got a pile of unused grated cheese - can it be frozen? Do I need to toss it in...flour? Or anything?
Thanks!:T0 -
Yup, it'll freeze fine.
You can stick it in a bag and break it up a few times before it's totally frozen and that way you can just lift out a handful, rather than a big, stuck-together lump0 -
You should be fine to freeze it, although it will keep in the fridge (in a sandwich bag or something like that) for days. If you freeze it the texture may change, but it will taste the same. HTH xBe the change you want to see in the world - Gandhi

I freeze grated cheddar all the time, as I never use a block fast enough (I'm lactose intolerant, so most of our meals are dairy free - just the odd bit of cheese on top of pasta for DH). Texture isn't great for anything where it won't be melted though, so I only use it for cooking.
If it was pre-grated, it may already have a bit of cornflour on it to stop it sticking. Otherwise, you may want to toss a bit in. You can also flash freeze it spread out on a tray before putting it in a bag. But I've frozen it without any flour and straight into a storage tub (prefer these to bags) and it's fine. Or nothing a few whacks won't fix anyway!0 -
Yeah, I bought 1Kg of whoopsied grated cheddar today for £2.50, in Mr Ms.
I rebagged 2 x 250 gm. Put another 250 gm in a box for DD to take to Uni,(she's a veggie). All back in the freezer and the last 250 gm in a box in the fridge for sarnies or pizza.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down. I quite often buy Mr T's bags of value grated cheddar and decant it into a tub for freezing. I use it on top of HM pizza instead of mozz and use it straight from the tub. I also make cheese scones using red lec or similar (that I wouldnt normally use for sarnies or anything - just preference really) and I grate the whole block of that a stick it in the freezer in a tub aswell.Emma
