I always have a block of cheese in the freezer in case I run out, but it is always a bit crumbly when defrosted I have found. Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0

I buy cheese in big blocks and grate the whole lot in one go and bung it in the freezer - really useful for sandwiches, omelettes etc.

I find it is better if you grate it before you freeze it as lumps are rather crumbly once defrosted. Other bonus of grated cheese is that it thaws out very quickly.December GC: £3500

Yes you can freeze it,
If you open freeze it on a tray and then when the individual pieces are frozen you can transfer into a bag/bags with the right quantity needed for each meal.
You can freeze full blocks of cheese too but it may go crumbly when you try and grate it after defrosting.
There is a thread on here about freezing cheese, will try and find it for you.
Here it is

Thanks everyone for the quick and helpful replies. I shall get the last bit grated and frozen.
I like the idea of tray freezing and individual bags which i shall do next time.
Thanks again

I've just bunged mine in a tupperware box - when I take it out of the freezer I give it a good bang on the work surface and then when I take off the lid it's all loose and ready to go.
I don't bother with the open freezing or separate bags, I'd probably lose themall you can do is try it out and see what suits you.

I just grate and put in a bag. When I want some a break of what I need, it breaks away from the rest easily enough and you can use it from frozen to top dishes that are going in the oven or under the grill.Second purse £101/100

Hi lucylema,
I usually do as other have mentioned and grate cheese before freezing it as it can be too crumbly to slice easily if frozen in a block. I don't open freeze it, but just bung it in a bag once grated and bang the bag off the side of the freezer to loosen it up when I want to take some out.
As your thread has fallen from the front page of Old Style I've added it to the existing thread on freezing cheese where you'll find more advice.

Since you guys gave me some great help with food and money saving ideas for my new fat free gallstone diet, I wonder could I beg your expertise again??
I have a selections of cheese which I cannot use now picked up in a yellow label selection;
Brie, Cheddar, Wensleydale with Cranberries, Stilton, Full fat Soft Cheese Petit Moule, Austrian Smoked.
Can I freeze these until I can have them on my menu again or is there something I can use them in and freeze/store until post operation?
Thanks in advance

I always work on the basis that if I don't freeze it now then I've wasted money. So I've always labelled and put in the freezer regardless. I've successfully frozen Brie, hard cheeses (Wensleydale etc) when I've seen them on offer and used them at Christmas. Only thing I make sure is that they don't go back in the freezer and are used relatively quickly once defrosted (within a couple of days).
