Tesco's tightening up of coupon redemption

As other people have mentioned, the policy of taking/not taking coupons varies from store to store.
It's also worth bearing in mind that the taking/not taking of coupons can vary from checkout operator to checkout operator.
Tesco are not nice employers in many ways. They have very strict disciplinary policies & policies on absence. Please bear in mind that some people really NEED their jobs at Tesco, so they might be very hesitant to do something 'against the rules' in case they get caught up in disciplinary action. Other staff couldn't care less whether they work at Tesco or not, so they are far more likely to accept anything/everything.
An example to illustrate my point is a lady who has worked at Tesco for over 12 years. She doesn't drive & her husband is housebound. She lives in the village about 10 minutes walk from Tesco. There are no other employment opportunities for her in the village, so losing her job at Tesco would be the end of the world for her. If a Tesco manager tells her not to accept coupons, she won't accept them because she's terrified of losing her job.
When I worked at Tesco I was doing it for pin money & if I'd been sacked I'd just go elsewhere. So, if I wanted to accept coupons I'd accept them as long as they scanned. I didn't care if I 'got in trouble'. If some jumped up little Section Manager wanted to give me a b*llocking for accepting a coupon I just let them get on with it, smiled sweetly & carried on accepting them.
My main criteria for accepting coupons or not, was whether the customer had treated me nicely, said please & thank you, smiled & not treated me like dirt.0 -
lol, my daughter asked me a few months back why I "always chat up the young men" pmsl
I am always very polite and engage them in conversation about themselves LOL
No problem at my local store yesterday. The young girl putting them through checked the dates etc laboriously , and when I said, "They are all in date and different, but I know you have to check", she did say there was a man who is always "trying it on" and that really annoys her as she would get into trouble by accepting dodgy coupons, and it spoils it for everyone else. Couldn't agree more
She said, I dont mind taking loaDS OF COUPONS AS LONG AS THEY ARE OK, (oops soz,) it's just people who try it on who annoy me.I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
Tesco chester keeps insisting that my coupon downloads are photocopies-which they are not and I have terrible trouble trying to use them - cashier calls supervisor-lots of tutting-must check with office then comes back-no photo copies allowed grrrr not copies internet downloads:mad:   :mad:0

when I used the Self-Service till today, a customer next to me (was it a MSE'r?) was trying to use a coupon, the till automatically called a supervisor over and he couldn't use it as it came up with 'coupon threshold exceeded'.
Not sure what that means?A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

It could be that the store has set a % of the total to be checked by the supervisor. I notice at my local that it calls at about 20% of total value, but the super normally just overrides.0 -
When I worked at Tesco a couple of years ago there was no limit on the number of MOC's you could use for goods that had been purchased but only one coupon for an item that hadn't been purchased.
However most of the cashiers didn't understand the policy and just used to work on the theory that if they scanned then it was ok to accept them.Only one debt left - overdraft £80:A0 -
I had a wonderful coupon-ing experience on Friday.... (Self scan) I had about £70 worth of shopping and about £12 worth of coupons to use... The self scan was playing up, and the young lad who was over-seeing the tills had to keep helping me... I thought this would be a problem, as I knew the SA are not overly co-operative at my Tesco and usually only take two coupons or so.
When it came to paying, he popped up again and watched me scanning my coupons, they were all going through fine... he was smiling, so I asked him what the stores policy actually was. He then advised me that Self scan was the way to go, as they will take quite alot of coupons. He then wandered off to check his machine and said that he had an alert and my till would only take one more coupon. So I rummaged through and found my best one (£2 from the Lambrini competition) and came away with a bill of £62.26 instead of £73.51 so all in all, very happy. I used 13 coupons.
My daughter then went through the self scan till, used about ten coupons against a £35 shop and paid about £26, so I dont think it is the amount we are spending that was flagged up, but the amount of coupons used.
I then went to the customer service desk and filled in a customer comment on a very helpful, cheerful sales assistant, who helped me with the Self scanner, while I was having difficulties.2011: £10 Sports Direct Voucher, Peppa Pig Wii Game, Trivial Pursuit Card Game, £100 Chat magazine win, Dance workout dvd, Grease wii game,0 -
I went this morning after church and handed over coupons to a lovely middle aged lady I often use. She scanned them and said any more? Come on, if you've got them you may as well use them! It got an £8 bill down to about 50p! if only more of them were like that!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0

Self Scan til today refused all coupons except those on products actually purchased for me in.
Message appeared on screen 'coupon not allowed'
Happened to me today - yesterday was fine. Darn! I've just started couponing and made a small investment in the Pregancy and Birth mags! So Waitrose accepts any number and do I have to purchase product?
Should we start a list of branches which don't accept any coupons?0
