Tesco's tightening up of coupon redemption

The self scan at my local tesco was starting to beep for approval more regularly (seemed to be if over a third of the bill or more than 2 coupons) so tried using a normal till for a change but the nervous looking chap said only supposed to take one coupon if not buying any of the products. Went back to self scan yesterday, used 2 coupons, no beep but to my horror heard a quiet beep from the supervisors till which I was next to and on their screen was a clubcard number and in red a list of the coupons I had used over the last few transactions. Best not to use the clubcard I guess!

Oh my, must flash up when I use mine too then!!
I do try and alternate and not always use my CC. I then add extra points I/my son find/s to build it back upI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
Why do people think it's unethical to hand in a book token that Tesco can't redeem, but that it's OK to hand in a coupon that causes the manufacturer to have to pay Tesco when you really didn't buy the product as you were supposed to?
IMO - coupons clearly state how they are valid, and this says only with purchase of the product. Using coupons in any other way is unethical, but I'm glad Tesco lets me do it!0 -
My local (Ipswich store) has tightened up its policy on redemption of vouchers for products you haven't actually bought. Down from 5 to 3 - has anyone else noticed a clamp down?
Is this copdock? I went to martlesham and tey accepted several coupons last weekend. Bad news or do you think it was just one cashier? Asda is much better Goddard Rd they take as many as you give them.0 -

Worked great for me tonight. 50% of my shop although not a dear one just £15. I did hear the self service till play some kind of tune. It went something like
When will I see you again? When will we share precious moments? Will I have to wait forever? Or will I have to suffer and cry the whole night through?
Instead of blowing in the slot, like I usually do if my coupon gets stuck. I gave it a little hug tonight and promised I'd be back in the morning. Even self service tills have heart.

ok, lol, I'll try ( again!) and clear this up.
I, and doubtless countless others, have no concern for ethics or morals where tesco are concerned.
The fact of the matter is, we are on to a good thing being allowed to give coupons in. I care not if huggies are sent 3000 £1 coupons from tesco. (Huggies will not be able prove any misdemeanor as tesco sell thousands every day, as I said.) I am not concerned about whether it is ethically or morally wrong.
I'm not concerned that it is morally wrong to hand over a £2 off a morrisons oproduct, or a £4 book token either
As I have said previously, if tescos coupon policy was cast in stone and will be there forever, I too would hand over book tokens and morrisons coupons.
However, it ISNT cast in stone. Their policy is a PRIVILEGE to us coupon users, and their policy is something we'd like to be there for a long long time.
The reason they have this policy is, people hopefully will shop at tesco instead of going elsewhere, raising tescos profits. Tesco do not lose out because they can redeem the coupon with the manufacturer and get the money back. Shopper is happy, tesco is happy ( so carries on accepting coupons) manufacturer knows no different as he has sold x amount of products at tesco
BUT, if you give in a daily mail coupon, a rather large amount, too, or a coupon for 50p off cornflakes at morrisons, or £2 off wine at Somerfield, tesco CANNOT redeem them.
Now obviously they willalways get a few of this type of coupon through and accept it, but if the numbers become too great and the pitfalls of accepting coupons begins to outweigh the benefits. (And don't forget many tesco stores hate taking them because of the extra time incurred both at the till and afterwards so if they get these unredeemmable coupons they would put pressure on head office, and GLADLY!! lol) they will say, "Right, we are not taking any more coupons"
And who will suffer?? Why, WE will of course.
So, I hope you now understand, I care not about the ethics or morals of which coupons are presented. I just dont want tesco to reverse their coupon policy. As others know, my local store stopped accepting ANY coupons for 6 months for exactly that reason, that people were giving in coupons that they could NOT get the money back for. I realised how much I had relied on giving them in every week when it was stopped, and you all will too, if it happens to you. The cahier gleefully told me the policy had changed. The supervisor was watching, obviously anticipating with delight the moment I'd be told! Jealous they are!!
Thats why I have no qualms giving in 13 huggies coupons ( which they can redeem) but would never give in a daily mail book token or a coupon for morrisons, somerfield etc.
Personally I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and rob myself of the privilege called couponing!!
Hope that clears it up!

Definitely a new policy in force at the small Aylesbury Tesco- went to my favourite young SA today and still no acceptance except on products purchased.0

I was told this today at self scan in tesco, the assistant came and opened up the slot and asked if I'd bought any of the items  I said no, she then appologised and said that a memo had gone round all stores stating that the items must be purchased, she went to double check with someone else ( as in her words it was no skin of her nose if they were to accept them ) but they confirmed this to be correct
I've never had problems there before as all the assistants have let the coupons through without raising an eyebrow ( the one I had today included )
looks like my vouchers will be finding their way onto e-bay :rolleyes20 -
A friend of mine works in Tesco over the weekends... I quizzed her thoroughly today, and in her Tesco, nothing had changed..... she said as long as they stocked the item, she can scan the coupon, no limits........ maybe it is only certain stores?2011: £10 Sports Direct Voucher, Peppa Pig Wii Game, Trivial Pursuit Card Game, £100 Chat magazine win, Dance workout dvd, Grease wii game,0

Don't don't don't (no, don't!) use your Tesco clubcard vouchers instore. They are best redeemed online for clubcard Deals on the Tesco website. A fiver is worth £20 in Deals and they are NOT just Days Out for kiddies, there's loads and loads of options.
The coupons we are using instore are any in-date money-off coupons (e.g. £1 off Benecol, or £1.25 off Huggies, or even £1 off a stated magazine, etc., etc.). You can collect these from magazines, pick them up instore or at foodie events, buy on eBay, or even print free ones on sites as mentioned by Stebiz, above.
In Asda, Waitrose or Tesco YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY THE PRODUCT STATED, most of their stores will accept at least one random coupon off your shopping (any shopping, not necessarily the products on the coupons). This is OK as long as they stock the product and the coupon doesn't specify one Supermarket (i.e. not coupons with a store logo on, not even if you are in that same store unless you are buying the product of course).
It's not hard to collect some. Click on Stebiz' links and print away, then go & ask in your nearest Tesco or Waitrose.Asda are a bit rubbish at accepting internet printed ones so best only take non-internet prints there as a newbie-coupon-user.
