    Hi All,

Congratulations on the weight loss Cheerfulness and other losers.

Still blissful weather here so I've been laid on the patio in the sun all afternoon with a book. We are now about to go for a walk on the beach. I didn't get my extra walk yesterday. OH treated us to the icecreams that I'd tried to persuade him with rather than me paying.

Got a microwave plate for our new combination oven in Gibraltar yesterday so celebrated by doing some baking. I made a few scones but managed to just eat one half of one, plus a bit of mixture. OH has managed to finish the rest already. I must make sure I don't get into the habit of baking too much as that is my downfall when I'm back in the UK. I use the excuse of DS dropping by but often have some myself.

The chicken liver pate I made is great now, having firmed up to the correct consistency. Trouble is, its very moreish.

    B: Muesli etc. Pineapple juice
L: HM chicken liver pate on 3 slices toast. Cappucino dessert.
D: Leftover HM kedgeree from yesterday. Melon

So envy you that sun Rose. My parents and DS1 are away to Portugal next month, and are watching the temps, the lucky things. :)

MRSMC - Having the freedom to just eat without taking the joy out of it by frantically tapping away at my calculator adding cals or checking units, or whatever else it was that I was using that particular time, has made it so much more fun.
It's just natural eating, now. I'm even finding I'm making healthier choices without being immediately aware of it. I'm walking round the supermarket with 'new eyes' seeing ingredients and products I'd never noticed before. All the rubbish has gone. :D
I spend years thinking I couldn't stop buying the crisps and snacks etc because it was unfair not stock just because I was overweight but, in all honesty, I was munching on most of them.
I decided why the heck should I buy the kids that junk when it wasn't healthy anyway and it wasn't real food.....
Now my money goes on quality food and when they want the sweets, crisps and pot noodles they can use some of their pocket money. I'm not encouraging it anymore.
They enjoy my home baking and get their treats that way, although I occasionally buy in some sweets or snacks but not automatically every week.

Does shock me how much I used to spend and what rubbish I used to eat. Food is so much more fun now I'm learning to really enjoy it. ;)

  • Cheerfulness - I know what you mean about your life being ruled by counting points or syns or whatever. I have been going to slimming clubs for the last 30 years, since I was frogmarched there at the age of 15 by one of my Aunts. I was the same height as I am now (5ft 10ins) and weighed 11 stone 7 and all my family used to call me the Ukranian Peasant because they said I was so fat (and I believed them). Well over the years I lost and gained more so many times that I have ended up the weight I am now. It is very freeing to be able to eat what you want but I find it hard to get my head around it - which is daft when you think that I haven't managed to stick to a "diet" for so long - but I have the mentality that if I have one point or syn too many then I think "oh that's blown it now - I'll eat LOADS and start again tomorrow". So now I am trying not to do that but it is quite a stretch at first IYKWIM.

I went to Morrisons before to do a big shop and had a huge trolley full of food - but it was almost all fresh unprocessed fruit, veg, meat fish, cheese etc and the bill was £50 and when I got home I worked out some meals and found I could do about 20 main meals for all three of us on what I had bought combined with the contents of my cupboards. In the past I have spent AT LEAST £100 a week on food and still bought takeaways in the week:confused:

So I hope that in a couple of months I can start being as much of a success story as you and Mrs M - and this thread is very definitely moneysaving!

Well done on the loss cheerfulness

RS - Brilliant vodka trick!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

mhe - that muffin recipe sounds really nice, I might have ago at them tomorrow.

Rubbish last night, OH fell asleep and I was fed up and raided the bread bin  so much for his 'pleasant night in' - not!

Today I've not eaten very well really, egg on toast for brekkie, 2 muffins with hummus and beetroot for lunch and some nuts and raisins. I have done lots of walking though! Went to daughters this morning - bus journey with 15 min walk either end. She brought me home then I walked to the town - an hour and a half, as I got in OH sent me a text asking me to get him some nicotine patches while I was out  so I ended up going back again - an hour this time as I had done my wandering earlier.

Spent this afternoon baking - traybakes for the freezer.

Pasta with lentil bolognaise for tea. I'm tired now, OH had to get up at 6am - so I had to as well  and he's back on after tea until 9.30pm, a looooong day. Same tomorrow so I'll clean the house and cook for in the week I think.

    See you tomorrow girls :A

  • Ooooh it is quiet today isn't it! I've just thrown a chilli and a healthyish apple crumble in the oven so have come on here out of harm's way while everything's cooking.... I'm hungry, the smell of mixed spices is making me even hungrier, and I AM NOT going to start rooting round the kitchen to see what I can eat while I'm waiting!

Well done Cheerfulness and RS! And RS, don't forget you haven't even done a full week yet so that 1lb so far is good going!

I've been pretty good this week, despite a giant tin of Roses turning up in work for someone's birthday yesterday.... although have to admit the reason I only had a couple wasn't down to me being saintly, just that I was stuck in a meeting half the morning then had the afternoon off! Just hope the rest of the gannets finished them so there's none left on Monday morning!

Been busy today so no time for picking. Had porridge for breakfast, soup and small roll for lunch and tonight will be chilli, baked spud and apple crumble..... speaking of which, surely it's got to be ready soon!!!!!

Glad your OH got his wages sorted Rockie. ;)

Recovering - Can't help thinking that a lot of us follow similar patterns. You started dieting at 15 and MrsMc had said 14, which was the same as me. They got us in the dieting trap early didn't they?

If you stick to your guns and try eating normally but just quitting when you're satisfied, you wait and see the great results you get. ;) I can't believe how easy peasy it is. And this from someone that would wake up with a 'food hangover' every morning from the binge the night before. :o

You'll be just fine, just run here and type as fast as you can if life starts getting to you. Family and financial worries and I'm here like a shot to release the pressure. :p

Droopydrawers - don't spoil that yummy dinner by attacking the fridge. ;)

    Hi everyone,

in response to those of you discussing best diet plans, I am literally eating loads of food but just good, healthy decent food. I know from the past that starvation is a waste of time. I am semi following slimmers world, not joined their club but am sticking by their philosophies. You can happily munch away plenty of food as long as its decent food and not stodgy rubbish.

    Today has been:

    B. - 1 x shredded wheat with semi skimmed, apple

    L. - bowl HM leek & potato soup, 2 slices beans on toast, bowl of strawberries with mullerlite

    D. - SW chips and crunchy pesto chicken

Have done my hours walk plus a few hours strolling round the shops. Weigh in monday, feeling good about this week.

it really is quiet today. we had a wander in to town earlier and then been out to see family so i haven't had a chance to raid the cupboards, always handy!
    today has been:
b: two weetabix and small banana
l: half pork chop, three cocktail sausages, bit of mash, peas and cheesy leeks, YUM :p
d: nothing as lunch was late
s: small iced finger and i think i'm gonna have a slice of bread and HM jam in a minute, starting to feel peckish!!

tomorrow we are off to see my brother, he's taking us out to an italian restaurant. i'm going to try my hardest to be :A ! i think perhaps a nice pasta dish in a tomato sauce and then a quick scan of the dessert menu! :o

going to have a wander down to Aldi tomorrow to stock up on fruit & veg before we go, so that will burn some cals at least!

well stayed the same this week but better than putting on i guess. im now 16st 5lb, my biggest problem is im a picker rather than a meal eater, i am slowly changing it and getting a bit better. mrs m i do that many steps a day, take 2 kids to school (40mins) than drop other one off at nursery, back out at 11.30 pick him up, then back out at 2.30 back to school and dont get in till 4.30. as you may guess i go to bed early lol.
    Mam of 5 now

  • Cheerfulness, pleased to say I managed to avoid the fridge! Oh I was on my way there alright, but dragged up a last ounce of willpower from somewhere, did a 3 point turn... and went in the shower instead!!!!
