purpleivy the low GL stuff sounds good to me. i've been thinking about it myself as Dr has told me i'm at risk of developing diabetes (DS was 10lb 1 at birth  - apparently an indicator) but i'm just not sure i could do w/out some of my carbs!!
You don't have to do without Carbohydrates, you just need to modify which ones you have. Certain grains are better than others, brown rice and pasta more slow release than others.
I f you are looking for literature, then watch out that you are reading low glycemic load and NOT glycemic index. Index doesn't work the same as food portion sizes are not taken into account, they are with GL.
There are several books out with good outlines. I got Anthony Worrall Thompsons book 2nd hand on Amazon. http://www.mendosa.com/ is a good starting point for internet reading.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to commit to this long term, but would like to have a go. I guess the old 80-20 rule would be good! What I would find helpful would be a recipe thread with low GL recipes, but I suspect there isn't enough interest really.
I'm making channa dall curry for dinner tonight. Channa dall is a good GL food."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

My friend has spent thousands on slimming magazines, pills, diet clubs and every piece of exerciese equipment going and still hasn't made it to be slim!
shame she doesn't have the internet or I'd enrol her here!:D
purpleivy - I am a fan of the GI way of eating and lost 1 and a half stone following Rick Gallops low GI diet but found it hard to stick to long term, I think I needed the support of others at the time too instead of going it alone. Now with you lot behind me I cant go wrong can I:D I do try and follow GI such as eating little and often and trying to cut out sugar and caffeine if I can.Porridge for breakfast etc. Lots of fibre. Hope it works out for you!
am off to work later untill tomorrow evening then its weigh in, hope to stop the same if possible. Am taking some food to work as I'm not sure whats on the menu. Butternut squash soup, jacket spud and a quorn cottage pie should help see me through till tomorrow evening.
Hope you are all being good!;)
Hi again. Have you tried looking at GLycemic LOAD rather than Glycemic index? Will take a look at Rick G. Do you have any good recipes? I'm making things hard for myself by trying to cut some wheat out of my eating.
Forgot to note before...
Breakfast: Porridge (Breakfast tv was extolling the virtues of porridge in particular and eating breakfast in general)
No snack this morning, as I have early lunch break today.
Lunch: Hmm not sure, but probably salad base. Cuppa soup maybe, still trying to clear those out of the cupboard. Nasty, but I won't throw them away!
Snack: My 25g of beloved 70%/85% chocolate and bit of fruit
Dinner: cold pork (again, but delish, from the news this morning sounds like we won't be able to afford to eat meat before long, or bread, will be living on beans!) curried channa dall and rice. Trying brown for the first time."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Morning peeps
Frogga... I want a "charlie"he was big n squidy with chubby cheeks..scrummy :rotfl:
Hello everyone.. back from my jaunt so cross off 1.5hrs and 7500 steps.... would have been quicker but i was loitering as the woman who was doing the "whoopsing" go mugged by everone.. being British i waited until everyone had finished fighting-Still picked up 4 fresh WW salami pizzas -hubby loves them occasionally of a weekend when he gets the munchies -and at €1 each i don't mind , and 3 pouches of fresh organic Arrabatia sauce at 10c each  usually make my own...but at that price-well it would be rude not to ehhh
Hubby found out yesterday that it looks like he is going to be on exercise from sunday for the week.. unless they change it -in which case he will go on Friday.... still I will busy myself by blitzing the house
meals today:-- soaked 30g of oats with fruit n nuts in milk over night and then stirred in half a cherry yoghurt for brekkie -its slower releasing that way and yummy to boot
- lunch... not quite decided -might be cooked meat and salad
- dinner is prawn salad, with steamed potatoes for hubby and i need to make a batch of coleslaw mmmmmmm
- snacks -yep -fruit or yoghurts
Cheerfulness
Chish n fips  ..me n hubby were on about that the other day... but the best place for them is back in suffolk (cover your ears frogga) a little place called Needham market..there is a little old chippy tucked away and OH MY GOD... they still fry in dripping:drool: and even when i could eat a pea more than a pig - i still couldn't eat a medium fish n chips...HUGE they were .... in fact we have threatened that next time we come back to the UK we are going to do Hook of Holland to Harwich and go via Needham market ...they are THAT nice..
I do have one question though.... in nottinghamshire when you go to the chippy and want mushy peas, beans, gravy, curry sauce.. they have a bain marie full -lovely n hot -is it just bloomin suffolk that have them in little cups in the fridge for you to nuke at home? it used to do my head in....
Hi Sillyvixen and well done :T ..... glad they have you on the list for your op now... size 14 and to big  jees whatever next.... if i get told when im a 14 that im to big... there will be fireworks :rotfl: . Keep up the great work.. just wait until that op is done and you have recovered -you will be in for a shock
I really laughed about those still WWing etc after years..... that would have been me until a while agoi always reckoned that some of us had been doing it soooo long that we should have our own chairs with our names on the back :rotfl: ..My mum has chucked WW in too and is now doing it this way with my sis..and has allready put £40 worth of weekly fees away :j
Belindabear...glad you are feeling better
Droopydrawers.... 1lb is still a good loss :T

Morning ladies:hello:
Didn’t do bad last night, 2 soya yoghurts (needed eating up) and a muesli ryvita – they’re quite sweet so a bit like a biscuit. I did spend most of the evening asleep in the chair though which could explain the lack of kitchen activity;)
Today I’ve had toasted multiseed bread with marmalade, lunch is an egg and new potato salad and tea will probably be a risotto of some sort, I’ve got fruit with me as well.
MrT delivery comes tonight so I’ll probably spend most of the evening sorting that out! Other exercise today is a swim at lunchtimeand my walking.:j
Pigpen – you don’t need chocolate!!!It gives you a sugar rush and then your blood sugar plummets,
Purpleivy is right about the GI/GL stuff. If you NEED chocolate have a small piece of dark, good choc:drool: not something highly processed, try a cereal bar, a few nuts or the like instead. I do hope your friend arrives soon………………and get some bl**dy breakfast inside you
I must get a pedometer, I'll have to wait untilOH gets paid now but I'm busy at work again so must have doen about 5000 this morning!!
See you later folks :A
