Just struck me reading through this thread, like most here I am a long term serial dieter, I wonder how much money I have handed over to the diet industry over the years:eek: And how much I have paid to slimming world/weight watchers/ slimming magazine clubs etc:o. I feel more motivated by you lot (rough old bunch of misfits that you are;)) and I get more support and hear more common sense on here than I ever got from paying a fiver a week:T0

Just popped in before getting into jimjams and settling to tv in bed.
DH and I decided to share some fish and chips tonight. I haven't had any for ages and wasn't sure how well I would cope having a takeway (the lads have to take them upstairs away from me when they indulge  ) but I really enjoyed them.
I planned ahead that I would have 1/3 of his fish and about 8 chips. What suprised me was that I didn't feel the least hard-done-by. It was just the right amount for me not to feel yuck afterwards.
I must say that I did notice that greasy feeling that is left in your mouth when you've finished... not something I'd worried about previously. Still, made a nice change but not something I'd want every week now.;)
Saversarn - I know for a fact that the diet industry had a fortune off me for over 20 years, literally. They'll never get another penny from me now tho.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Well, interesting you should say that. A long time ago I used to work for WW. I bet if I went back into local meetings as a member (Yes, need to, but don't think it's the way forward) I would find the same people spending half their b****y lives queuing to get weighed! Looking round and about the area where I live, former members (may be current members too for all I know) are all at least as lardy as they were then. I'm bigger as well, but I think I did learn some good habits there, that's one positive thing about it.
I think the support here is great! Better still, it happens every day of the week, for as long as you have to spare, without spending a)meeting fee and b) all those other 'must haves'.
Editing as I forgot:
Porridge for breakfast
85% chocolate (25g) for snack
Lunch was piece of nut roast with salad and veggies, yoghurt and stray bit of fresh pineapple
No snack inthe afternoon, thought not, as I had 2 puds at lunch!
DInner: Left over roast pork, red cabbage, mash, etc etc from yesterday. NICE!
.... now what can I have.... dh and ds had some stollen that I had left from Christmas.... I might have the last little bit of flapjack.... at least that has oats not wheat, so better for my glycemic load!
Need to plan some more meals!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Pigpen, for the last couple of weeks I have been following a low glycemic load plan. THe idea of this is to maintain an even blood sugar. THis isn't particularly for weightloss, but should help, it is 'sold' as a weight loss plan. I have to say that moments of temptation... chocolate bars, thinking of food between meals (I should have snacks.. little and often is the best way of keeping even blood sugar.. so I do) etc etc and I feel very well on it. I've also tried to radically reduce the amount of wheat I have (that's mostly bread, so the difficult bit, also pasta) because I suspect I was getting a lot of bloating from it. Or I suppose it could be the yeast. Either way, the bloating seems to be largely gone away. It is supposed to be good to avoid problems with diabetes. I am now managing to buy chocolate, keep it in the house, divide it into 25g bits and have one each day for a snack. It has to be high % though, so been eating 70% and 85%. I'm eating more veg and pulses. It's not so much Low carbohydrate as SLOW carbohydrates and Good Carbohydrates. Oat based breakfast, either porridge or HM granola really helps. Sit down to have morning snack and afternoon snack and if lunch or dinner is on the early side I save the snack for later. SOmetimes I don't even have it at all! At the moment I'm not obsessing about losing weigh, because I would rather get used to the way of eating before I start making it harder for myself by limiting stuff too much.
I just don't get the lows that I was getting. Now I just have a hot drink if my mind turns to food. I think it's usually I don't read the thirsty cue as thirst... I always seem to think it might be hunger!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
