Off work this week and been for a mamoth mooch (sp?) around shops with my mum. She bought me a hand blender as part of my birthday gift so going to give all those homemade soups a go now!!
Only got in at 10.30pm when the security guard in M&S chucked us out. HAve just sat down with a cup of tea to read all your news (WELL DONE TAPLADY!!) and have realized that i only ate branflakes for brekkie and had a cup of coffee whilst out and apart from that nothing else today at all!!!! Thank goodness i ate a bit too much yesterday - it will have kept me going today.
MRSM - have tried your tortillas very yum - but i read somewhere about a recipe you posted for HM pittas. I cant find so could you please repost it. How many WW points are in 1 of your tortillas and pittas please?

    Morning one and all

lost 2.5lbs :D so i might just get to that 5st by the end of froggas fab feb:j 2 weeks to lose 3.5lbs

Then we need to think of our next "mini challenge" ..what date is easter sunday this year??? we could have a mini challenge called the "easter EGGstravaganzer" :rotfl: sorry -just humour me :o

Well dinner was lovely last night... only had a small piece of the garlic, onion n parmesan focaccia with my pasta... hubby demolished what was on the table and the other half of the bread has gone with him to have with his spicy goulash soup at work -so he will be stinking the place out :rotfl:

I went for a soak in the bath last night and decided to re-read some older mags... i came across a recipe for "baked cardamom and orange custards" so clambered out of the bath and made them :rotfl: nom nom nom
They are sooooo simple, so i thought id best share the recipe ;) ... they are a bit like egg custard, creme caramel..well minus the pastry or burnt sugar :p
which is odd as i don't normally like either  ..im funny with consistencies -but i liked these and thought they were a great low option for when only something sweet will do ;)

I wasn't sure about the cardamom..but when i cracked them they smelt lemony..so it made sense..always associated cardamom with curry

    BAKED CARDAMOM AND ORANGE CUSTARDS
    serves 4 -1 point each
    • 200ml skimmed milk
    • 2 beaten eggs
    • 2tbsp artificial sweetener -I use sugar as i have cut right back on artificial sweeteners etc
    • 2 oranges
    • 4 cardamom pods
    1. heat the oven to gas 3/160c/140 fan
    2. spray 4 ramekins with low fat spray -i don't do that.. i just rinse them out with cold water (don't dry) and this helps stop them sticking ;)
    3. place the milk in a pan and crack open the cardomom and add the seeds to the milk
    4. gently warm through until hand hot
    5. take off the heat
    6. whisk the eggs and sugar/sweetener in a jug -just enough to combine
    7. add to the milk, and stir until sugar dissolved
    8. tip the mix through a sieve back into the jug
    9. grate the zest of the oranges into the ramekins
    10. divide the mix between the 4
    11. place in a roasting tin and pur in boiling water -so its half way up the ramekins
    12. place in oven for about 40mins..insert a knife and it should come out clean..but the custards should still wobble..and we all know what that looks like :rotfl:
    13. remove and allow to cool before chilling
    14. to serve peel and segment the oranges and add that and any juice to the tops
I only used the zest of 1 orange....and i didn't add orange segments either - i tried a spoonfull last night whilst it was still warm and it was lovely and i have just had that one for brekkie :p ...
It would be simple enough to swap the cardamom for vanilla pod (my next version;) ) or to grate nutmeg on the top -so its more like egg custard..
and i pondered what it would be like with a few slices of banana in the bottom...nana custard do you think? nom nom

MHE - i will work out the tortilla points for you, i want to try a different recipe for the pittas as im sure i can get them even nicer..so when i do them i will work out the points too...
Its strange because i don't count cals or points any more..but my mind does still think in points sometimes...i think its the years of WWing

Rockie :T ..thats what i have told my mum to do... buy in things for the grandkids that she doesn't like..mind now-when they leave she sends anything left with them :rotfl: -mind the youngest is 12 and the oldest 19 :p
All our kids though have stonking appetites..and not for processed stuff.. they all love "proper food" and plenty of it...

Taplady...date cake  ...mmmm my mums date n walnut cake ....yummmm
I think you more than deserved that after such a great result this week:T

Rosewood.... wait for the nice weather and those boots can come of and you can get a true reading :D ..plus if you are doing lots of walking -it could be that you are building more muscle and that will weigh heavier than fat ;) ..

I bet the little one with love most of the HM versions he gets ;) and im sure once your step daughter sees how quick, easy and cheap it is -she will be hooked

Newlywed  that has crossed out most of the "fill em up options" hasn't it :o ... is he doing something along the lines of Atkins? eeekkkk -thank god my hubby hasn't dropped that on me.... mind i would get him as he can't resist HM bread -so thats not likely to happen :rotfl:

To stretch the mince -what about moussaka? you can leave out the aubergine as they can be bloomin expensive -mind i use sliced potatoes on top hmmmm what about a moussaka base with mashed veggies on top,

Ohhh and how about doing the lasagne type sauce but instead of using pasta.. blanch the big cabbage leaves -something like a savoy.. cool them down.. place spoons of the meat on and roll like caneloni, place in a dish and add some cheese sauce and bake..

I will keep thinking... that would do my head in...i start my meal off thinking if i want pasta, potato etc and then decide what to put with it :rotfl:

right i had better get off... will catch up with you all later :D have a great day -and keep up the good work everyone:T

Wooohooo frogga -sorry i kept you waiting..you know i type slowly lol
hope you have a great day

Congratulations taplady on getting to target!

Well done to everyone who's lost and who've reached their Valentine's Day target!

I've lost 2.5lbs this week so pleased with that although I didn't manage the VD challenge after putting weight on the last couple of weeks!

Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all, well I didn't reach valentines weight goal :o

Actually put 2lb back on this week after feeling better and eating biscuits  Oh well, it'll soon come off. Went for my lunch walk yesterday and going on one again today too. Got my waterproof jacket just in case ;)

MrsM it's not really atkins, more body building type diet that he has adapted - so he has carb breakfast with a banana, small chicken salad midmorning, tuna/kidney bean salad for lunch, small chicken salad mid afternoon and then low-ish carb dinner in the evening. With apples as snacks.

He does eat some potatoes sometimes... mainly mash and will eat lots of all other veg regardless of carbs - so not quite atkins thing.

Like the idea of cabbage leaves.... have a cabbage read for stir fry.... planning on making shep pie when the kids are here so will stretch some of the mince to put in cabbage leaves for another day too (as kids aren't too keen on the effect cabbage has on them) :D

Anyway - food today has been an extra large helping of porridge with raisins and ground almonds (for calcium).
Lunch will be a sandwich (was lacking inspiration with the lack of money)
Tea will be prawn stir fry - although I've just realised I've forgotten to get the prawns out to defrost so might end up with bacon stirfry or else omelet instead :o

Snacks are red apple, green apple, banana.

Lunch will be a minimum of 2 mile walk - possibly 4 miles if I go to get a loaf of bread too :D
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Well done MrsMc on another good week. :T You're carving your way through this stone, aren't you? ;)

Juliejim - Looks like you're back on the case again... well done on losing that 2.5lbs this week. :T :T

What does cardamon taste like anyone? I'm sure my husband would like those custards but not sure about the cardamon. Is it hot like curry then?

That bean soup with pineapple I was supposed to have for lunch yesterday was truly awful once out the freezer. I had to bin it and have a boiled egg.
It really grates on me when I have to throw good food away. Always the way that a yuck batch of soup is the one that you've made a vat of, too. :(

    Food today:
Readybrek (so predictable but I'm addicted)
    Crabstick salad sandwich
HM chicken & veg pie with cabbage, cauli & carrots

Snacks - cheese & biccie night  and grapes or mandarins.

Managed to get a new net of sweet mandarins reduced from £1.99 to 29p so I'm going to eat those ones now and the other sharp ones will go in cooking.
I remembered someone posting a recipe for orange and chocolate muffins which I copied, so the boys are having those tomorrow made with the mandarins. :D There, no wastage now. ;)

Away to have a :coffee: with my mum and dad, once I've got my behind in gear.
Oh and I've looked out my pedometer, just so i'm not left out. ;) Not sure if mines on the blink, tho. It was one of those free ones on the freebies board from kellogs and its not moved much.

Oh that's easy , it tastes like old cardigans worn by smelly old ladies. Well, I haven't actually tasted it , but I bet it does ;)
