i am failing miserably on my diet, but have decided that if i set out a daily allowance, say 1200 calories and i list all i eat and find their calorific value if i have strayed and eaten a doughnut or chocolate bar once i have reached my daily allowance i will not be able to eat dinner or whatever. trouble is i have googled etc and all i keep coming up is either sites that require you to join and pay at least £2.99 a week or american sites that dont recognise half of the things we eat in the uk. can anyone help????

Homealone, Daily Plate http://www.thedailyplate.com is basically American but has quite a lot of UK foods in it (and you can add your own). The free service seems good enough to be useful. (But it seems to be down for maintenance at the moment. Hopefully it'll be back soon.)

I'd echo what others have said: this can't be done on calories alone. If you go much below about 1500 calories then things may start to go wrong with your system. The usual recommendation is to stick around 1500 calories and do some exercise. This needn't be going to the gym - just walking to the shops instead of driving will help. The Daily Plate (when it's working) will let you work out how many calories that walk would consume. Just look how many miles MrsMcawber is walking and how much she's losing!:T

Must go and walk to the shops now...:D
If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?
  • Hello everyone - a huge well done to Frogga, Mrs M, girlleastlikelyto,Kentishmaid and anyone else who has lost this morning:T :T - Frogga - even YOU must be jumping for joy 11lbs - WOW!

Meanmarie and other STSers - still a big :T

Cheerfulness - What you must have been through is unimaginable - I hope your poor son is getting all the professional help he needs - help for depression can be a bit of a lottery IMO.

Pebbles - what an awful experience at the hospital - WHY do healthcare professionals put EVERYTHING down to overweight? Your post made me sooooo mad for you. My Mum and all her friends were always very slim and they had this one friend who was a very large lady. The very large lady had all kinds of complaints like diabetes, arthritis and so on and my Mum and her other friends were always going on about how it was because of her weight and guess what? My Mum and all of her friends are now passed away, but the very large lady is still cyling round Crosby and going line dancing in her 80's and she is still just as large as ever!

Homealone - I use www.fitday.com - they have a huge database of foods and while it is American in origin you can input the calories from labels of your own food and it adds them to the database. It's free to use or you can pay $20 to install it so you don't have to connect to the internet to use it. I like it alot as it gives you a breakdown of nutrient content as well as calories, carbs and fat for everything you input.

BigmummaF - The fruit chunk thingies are made by Florida's Natural and I think you may be able to get them in some Home and Bargain or Poundstretcher stores too. They are lovely and I have just had two after my lunch.

Food today has been good (still tapping!)
Breakfast small bowl Special K, skimmed milk and one slice of wholemeal toast
Lunch - hm rice and chicken salad plus two fruit chunks
Dinner - not sure yet - Might do a frittata or Jacket potatoes with tuna/cheese and salad.

The chicken salad thing I just made was lovely so I thought I would put up the recipe:

    For 3 good sized portions:

200ml rice, boiled in 500ml of water until all absorbed. Cooled.
    half a pepper, chopped
    4 srping onions, chopped
    1 large apple, chopped
    handful of raisins
    1 tbs flaked almonds
    1 cooked chicken breast, chopped
    1 tbs corriander leaf
Just mix all together with the cooled rice and dress with:

2tbs Hellmanns extra light mayo, 2 tbs heinz extra light salad cream, 1 tbs mango chutney, 1 dsp of curry powder and 1tbs of lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Serve the salad on some large lettuce leaves or with shredded iceberg.
It was really lovely and tasty, and not too filling.

hope you are all enjoying the nice weather. It's overcast but still warm here today.

    Hi all,

Time for a proper post now!
Well done to everyone great weight losses- my WI tomorrow and fear I might let the side down as sitting in the sun drinking pimms is not normally a good weight loss strategy:think:
I've been fairly good with food though:D
    B- Yogurt and fruit
    L ham roll rockie biscuit:confused:
    D- Curry maybe???

Frogga I don't think you should ever put that fleece on again, and I know it is your comfort blanket but you need to go cold turkey, what can we do with the fleece.... I mean I'm not sure how big said item is, but could you re-cover the lily pads three piece ? could we make it into cuddly toys and send to needy kids? You know you're going to look ridiculous in it soon, so what can we do with it? Any ideas anyone?

    Hello everyone :D

Congrats to losers (sorry can't remember who you all were!) and to anyone who has STS because we all know that is an achievement too :T:T:T

Rockie - don't be down on yourself, it sounds like the world is against you at the moment! Draw a line under it and move on, tomorrow WILL be a better day:D

Pebbles - Some people really have nothing better to do with their day than make other people feel small do they? She obviously has so many issues of her own the only way she can feel better is to make other people feel low - ignore her, stupid ignorant woman that she obviously is. Instead pity her lack of social skill and pride yourself in knowing better!:D (I liked RS's point too)

I have had a good day, in fact, I've been good for 5 whole days which is unheard of for me - it seems I have finally found some will power and I think I have all you lovely people to thank for that :A

Off to update my sig for the GC!

  • Hello again - just had my tea and came on here so I wouldn't keep mooching in the kitchen!
Purpleivy - hope you are feeling a bit brighter - will e-mail you in a minute.

jlynncfs - ooh! a date - wonder what he will be like? My dating days are well over - I've got more chance of getting a ride on the next space shuttle IYKWIM. The number of 40something, straight, single, financially secure, non-certifiable men who don't live with their mother who are looking for a 40 something neurotic with a huge a*se is less than zero. Never mind - the Daily Mail are giving away Mills and Boon movies on DVD all next week:D

I just had my tea of jacket potato with baby spinach salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, spring onions and crayfish tails mixed with some tuna in springwater, with a little bit of Kraft 1000island light dressing. It was okay, but won't be looking to have it again soon I don't think. Afters was 2 fruit chunky things to which I am fast becoming addicted - they are 35 calories so I will have to be a bit careful with them, plus they tend to make you "go" IYKWIM.

Do any of you eat supper? When I was little we always had supper, but in recent years I tend not to make anything - but I still mooch about in the kitchen looking in the fridge all night so I thought it might make sense to have something planned at say 9.30, but I can't think what to have. What do you all have?

Hope you are all having a nice evening. Frogga - keep the fleece - as you lose weight it will get looser and looser and that will make you feel great!

    evening all!

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments concerning the patronising little witch!! i have decided i am going to make a complaint about her, i know she has a job to do and that my weight does affect things like my knees aching for example, but it certainly has nothing to do with my RSI, and it is not her place to speak to me like i am 5 yrs old!!!

    any way moving on!

MrsMC - With all that fruit i hope you dont stray to far from home :rotfl:

Cheerfulness - The almond magnums keep haunting me in my sleep!! and yest i saw them on offer in Mr M, i had to run away!! :rotfl:

Big Mumma F - you are spot on with your comment about this board, in all the slimming club meetings i have stayed to i have never gotten as much support, advice or congrats when things go right as i have from here. after my meeting with the witch the other day when all i really wanted to do was eat, i thought, no, i dont wanna do that, i am going to be marvellous in may!

keep up the good work everyone!
Please be nice to all moneysavers!

    Evening all,

    Just a quickie,
OH has stormed out for a walk as our 'delightful' neighbours are sat out in the street with a tray of lager having a party.........again:mad:

I only asked them to stop the kids banging the alley gate on our wall (and I mean BANGING) and got a mouthful of abuse:mad:

I've had a veggie burger, SW chips and peas for my tea, I didn't enjoy it one bit, it was like eating cottonwool but I will not have a binge!!!!!!

I might have a glass of wine later but at the moment I'm sat here with a cuppa.

    See you tomorrow folks :A

I just posted a message and it disappeared.

Not too good a day, still feel miserable & dh is cross with me because I've sent him to ds's concert with his MIL. I quite often go to things with, but I simply don't feel up to it. DD at a friend's.

    So far today,

Sml amt grapefruit, a banana, porridge for breakfast.

B&J cookie dough ice cream, the end of a tub, I'm not even that keen. Would much rather have Phish food or NY fudge chunk.

Bean salad with tuna, corn, pepper. WW yogurt and aero choc dessert. What was that about? I'm not even that bothered about those.

Cant' remember if/what I had this afternoon.

Dinner was potato wedges (HM) salad(cuc, celery, carrot, tomatoes, beetroot, coleslaw-bought) I didn't finish it, but still found room to just have some plain yogurt with hm done rhubarb and dates. Had to add a lot of sugar though, it was very sharp !
