moneysav3r - heres the potato and leek soup i make

cut 6 potatoes and blanche foe 5 mins to remove some starch
drain and set to 1 side
chop 1 onion 2 cloves of garlic and 3 leeks. throw in a pan with some olive oil and sweat for a couple of mins
once soft add pots to this pan
Add enough veg stock to cover the pots then add a bit more stock (sorry cant be more exact!!)
    cook until pots are soft
    blend
can add some milk at this point to make it a bit smoother

    Hi all

Not been posting on here for a few days and it shows - I have not been very good at all! I'm going to try and view it as part of the learning curve this time though and not think 'Oh well that's it. I've blown it' The key thing is that I have not planned my snacks and lunches properly which has led to a lot of 'picking'

So now I know this, I need to concentrate on making sure there is stuff in that is more suitable. Will make some more soup today (gonna try French Onion) and will also go through recipies etc for some other ideas.

A couple of questions though - I have had a cheap pedometer before and was really disappointed with how inaccurate it was. Do any of you have a reccommendation (cheap too if poss!)

Also have dug out a tandoori chicken recipie for tomorrow which tells me to add some (well OK quite a lot!!!) veg oil to the yogurt/spice mix. Anyone managed a similar recipie but without the oil?

  • Morning. :)

the_Cat - I was reading my diary from last year and I noticed in November that I wrote exactly what you did about picking because my lunches etc weren't planned. Only the main meal was organised, the rest was 'what do I fancy... whats in.' Its made a huge difference to me now I decide ahead, even if only in the morning, what I'm going to have each day. (with a little flexibility sometimes ;) ).

Coincidence too that I've just looked out a recipe for french soup (they called it oven roasted onion soup  ) for next month. It looked gorgeous and OH says he's happy to have it as the main meal with it having french bread & cheese melted on top. I've wanted to try it for years but have denied myself thinking it too calorific. Bah! :p A small bowl of that will set me up nicely for my dinner one day and I'll make sure my other meals that day fill in my other dietry needs. :D

Taplady - Goodness, your OH has to get up really early. Felt sorry for mine having to be up for 5.20am at mo. AND you get him up!

On the cider front, I'd freeze it too. Ever since I heard Nigella say that she would go round after a drinks party gathering the dregs of wine glasses and freezing them for cooking .. I've been buying the occasional bottle on special and freezing mine for recipes. I did it with cider as well over xmas.

Chloe - you'll get addicted to cooking really fast once you get your confidence. I was about 28 before I realised that cooking wasn't that hard and how much fun it could be. And there's nothing nicer than when someone says, ' wow you must give me that recipe' after you've cooked them something. :D

    Food today:
Chunk of HM french bread with cream cheese. (only enough milk for DS2 :o )
HM chicken & veg soup (I think, no label. Please don't be pineapple soup :()
HM Ham, cheese & potato flan with steamed veg

    Snacks - mandarins and carrots.

Heck, look at all those carbs. In fact I've been craving them all week. Maybe its because I've gone down with another cold, straight after getting over the last one. Still.... I love my carbs and I'm just going to enjoy them and spoil myself while I'm under par. If the scales reflect the extra cals, so be it. Still got till the end of Feb to lose that 2 1/2 lbs so its no biggy. ;)

See you later folks and keep happy. :D

I tend to leave a lot of oil outof a lot of recipes. There was a tandoori recipe in my WW book, so muxt be possible to leave it out!

  • Hi All

So hard to keep up with you all, so busy here, which is great as obviously alot of support ;)

MHE - Thanks for that, I think i'll have a go at that next week - Hopefully it'll be one that I can eat :o

The_Cat - Is it a recipe that you could use spray oil in instead or is the Oil used in a Marinade?

Well I had a very good [strike]diet[/strike] Healthy Eating day yesterday, until DH had a crash on the way home from work and wrote his van off  He is fine as is the other driver, Thankfully! So out came the vino :o

    Today
    B - Cheerios & SS Milk
    L - WW Soup
    D - Pork Chop, Mash & Veggies
    S- Banana & Orange

On a positive note, I weighed myself this morning and have lost 2lb :j so 10lb in total since New Year

  • hi everyone,

moneysav3r - i agree its very busy here, hard to keep up! well done for losing 10lb btw!

i do a lot of my own cooking and love it - its also a darn sight cheaper usually! altho my problem is i'm also good at baking, not good when on diet!

    today:
    B: branflakes and ss milk
    L: chicken and pesto pasta
    D: soup

it works out q healthy as lunch as smallish portion. might treat myself to choccie bar on way to work l8r!

i'm working on the basis that its better to eat big lunch as more time to burn off. plus means me and DS get good homecooked lunch - his nursery dinners are usually sandwiches or somethin w. chips! then just separate some for reheating when OH gets home. its works q well for me.

on another note DS seems to be gettin this potty training lark! no accidents this morning :p :T

must do some exercise l8r

well done every1, keep it up!

  • Hello everyone im new to all this (so please be gentle with me ha ha ha) :o

As I said in my previous post I need to loose weight due to a problem with my back (and the fact that im sick of people calling greepeace when I go swimming lol)

My lovely boyfriend is going to do this with me so hopefully that will make things easier. I love cooking to any recipe ideas would be very greatfully recieved. I struggle to excercise (because of the back problem) but am finding that walking really helps and the dog (a boxer called Derek!!!) is loving the fact that gets daily walks that last for at least an hour and a half!!!!!!

I have very little will power and tend to binge when im down or upset and just feeling crap about the world and my life in general. I really need to do this so any help and support would be greatfully and gladly recieved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
