Hi everyone, long time lurker her - waves hello! I am 10 stone exactly but only 4'11" so aim to lose around 2 stone - most of my weight is on my stomach. Measured myself, but want to keep that to myself at the moment (blushes). I have been dieting and exercising with a friend, and am running a 5k in 2 weeks, well I say running, more like staggering lol! Have just booked a holiday on my own for beginning Sept, want to wear a bikini and a certain dress, so need to buckle down and am hoping reporting in on here will provide an incentive. Am not following a particular "diet", just cutting down on what goes in my mouth and exercising more!0

Morning all,
Welcome to all those joining inI love reading all your stories about why you want/need to lose some weight.
Saversarn - Well done on that 2.5lb loss. You seem to be on a roll at the mo. :T :T :T
Rose wood - hope you really enjoy the sun before a safe journey home.
Really happy to say that I had a 6lbs loss at my weigh in this morning. :j :j I'd had a sneaky suspicion that over the last couple of weeks I was getting a bit carbs crazy with the seedy bread and it would seem that I was right. Won't give up my 'daily bread' but compromised by having slightly thinner slices again.
Anyways, that means I've hit my BH challenge target, both original and revised so I can start giving some thought to my next BH challenge.
Oh and I'm now also in the '18st something.'category. :jYessssssssss!
It is going to absolutely kill me sitting here waiting for the men folk in the house to wake up so I can tell them.
How early do you think would be too early to go bouncing on their beds to wake them up? I could seem all virtuous and take them all a cuppa in bed, altho DS1 & 2 would see through that cos they don't drink tea or coffee. In fact so would DH as I seldom to the tea in bed thing unless he's ill. He brings me one.:o
Oh well, I shall have to be patient.
Food today:
Boiled egg and seedy bread fingers (I truly think that is one of my favourite meals.)
HM beef stew and dumplings (SIL to dinner so something scrummy)
Not sure about tea but probably cheese, crackers and celery.
Snacks - grapefruit (only normals reduced this week) pears and maybe a handful of black pepper peanuts.
Busy day as have to do some running around for SIL this morning. She lives alone and needs some 'men power' this morning to do some lifting so she's borrowing her brother back.
After taking her shopping she's coming back for a bit of home cooking as she seldom bothers to cook for herself but loves our stuff. Always a pleasure to cook for her, she makes all the right noises while she's eating.
DS1 is picking my mum up for the afternoon too so the house will be full. It been a week for family this week and, for once, they haven't been my own problems to sort but every bit as worrying.
Looking forward to a stress free week next week. Do you think one really exists or is that just an urban legend?
Right, off to own up on the grocery challenge thread just how over budget I went this month.
Have a good weekend everyone.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Awww shucks, thanks you two. I'm absolutely delighted and trying not to burst with excitement.
I'm a little toad because I know not to slice my bread thick and I do thin it down but before long my eyes get bigger than my belly and I'm away carving off the chunky slices.Still, at least I know what it is and can correct it.
OH just got up and looking suitably impressed if his grin is anything to go by. Off to pester him now for a cuppa. Ohh he's beat me to it.. I can hear him filling the kettle. I SOOO picked the right guy.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I haven't had dinner yet! There's quite a lot of protein there so far actually - 3/4 pint of milk and the french toast used two large eggs. I think I'm having jacket potato with cheese and chicken kiev with veg for dinner so more protein in the chicken and cheese - I was more worried about the fact I wasn't getting enough fruit and veg!
As for not eating enough - it's interesting you should say that because sometimes I don't feel I eat enough but the weight still doesn't come off. I do have my binges as I've said, but there's always a little voice niggling at me and telling me that I shouldn't have to work quite so hard as I do to lose the weight. Especially as I do get a lot of exercise now. I have thought about seeing the doctor and seeing if there's something else going on (thyroid etc)but, as I'm not visibly overweight as such, I don't think I'd be taken seriously - what do people think?
Think of your body as an engine, it needs a certain amount of fuel just to 'tick over' as you do more activity it needs more fuel otherwise it 'stalls', you would be with most people to assume that this extra fuel would come from your body fat but what actually happens is that your body has evolved to hang on to every last bit of fat it has as its gonna need it in leaner times. Therefore if you don't eat enough for your body to tick over its not going to lose weight easily, thats why eating plans like weightwatchers give you a daily allowance which is loosly based on your metabolic needs (based on height/weight/activity), this gives you the level that your body needs to successfully tick over without your body thinking that its starving. Having lost 6st with WW and having been a leader myself I've seen it many many times where we believe we're doing really well because we've barely eaten and we're weak with hunger but what we're actually doing is putting our bodies in starvation mode and making it harder to lose the weight.
I've never done Slimming World or other eating plans but I'm sure they work in a similar manner.
Finding that balance of your own metabolic need and a way of measureing it is very hard, which I why I joined WW as they did it for me but general rules are lots of protein as this takes longer to digest and keeps us full longer, carbs are important as they are our immediate fuel, (wholegrain the best, pasta, rice, potatoes, lentils, oats) fill up on a variety fruit and veg, go for a range of colour (fibre & vits), and cut back on sugar, fat & alcohol.
Now if I could just take my own advice!!:o0 -

b: weetabix and banana
l: crackers or something like that, jelly
d: morrocan style chicken wraps
s: clementines
found out some very scientific stuff on weight loss yesterday too (some of you may already know so forgive me) basically everyone burns at certain amount of calories at rest (called BMR) and a general basis is 13 X whatever your weight is in lbs. (it can be adjusted slightly by sex, height, how active oyu are etc but thats the basic). so for me approx 2300 cals. now to lose 1lb in weight you need to burn 3500 cals more than you eat. which over a week equates to cutting your daily cal intake by 500 (so for me to 1800) and if you wanted to lose 2lb it advised doing exercise equal to 500cals a day. (don't go below 1400 it said as you are unlikely to get the nutrition you need, body will go into starvation etc) BUT (and this is the important bit) it said don't think of it in hours and days, think in weeks and months - as long as it AVERAGES out at cutting down by 500/day and exercise of 500/day then the end result is the same. so if you have a bad day (like we've all been saying for aaaaaages) draw a line under it and start again tomorrow
just wanted to share that becuase it made me
have a good day :ADisneyworld Florida in August 2011 :jLost so far: 0 lbs of 4stMother of beautiful son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy0
