  • Jackie,

sorry to hear about your trouble. I can sympathise, My OH was very ill about a year ago and the stress of it caused me to start drinking quite heavily. Not in an alcoholic way, just as a way of feeling better. I think thats what contributed to my weight gain over the past 6 months. Only about 10 weeks ago I was getting through about 5 bottles of wine a week.

My OH has up and down days and things aren't too bad anymore. The only advice I can offer is to recognise the times when you feel the need to binge and fill that time with something else.

My bad time was evenings when the craving for wine became strong. Now I try and fill my evenings with my other interests and I have honestly not felt the need to drink. I'm a huge movie fan so always have vids to hand and contribute to lots of film forums in order to chat about this passion.

This forum works in the same way, I spend so long reading and searching for info that my evenings are full and satisfying!

Find another outlet to help you relax e.g. reading, tv, music etc.. and turn to that instead of food.

Set yourself a target, say for 1 and half stone! I used to be over 16 stone, a size 22/24?, I got down to an 18, that was enough to start with, I did eventually do down more, but it's crept back up to an 18, though can now squeeze in a 16! It is fairly easy to lose the weight, what i find is harder, is too keep it off! I am determined this time, get to a 14, and stay that way! Fed up of putting myself through this, every couple of years:o
  • Jackiew - don't be worrying about apologising when stuffs upsetting you. Loads of us have needed support (often), its part of what this thread does to help us all.
I also have jumped onto doing the x - stitch. I know it doesn't make all the worries we have disappear but it does take my mind off them for a time and give my head a break. ;)
Sometimes, if I was going on a total food bender, I don't think there's a force on this earth that could possibly stop me when I was in that mood. I almost felt violent if anyone even tried...... seriously. I was advised to just go ahead but enjoy the taste of every mouthful. Since doing that its amazing how few mouthfuls I need before sanity is restored and I don't need to cram the food down at choking speed.
Hopefully your troubles will resolve themselves but while thats happening, stick close to this thread and just share when you need a helping hand. ;) We'll all help each other through and we'll all get there. :D

    Hiya moneysav3r. Welcome on board.

MrsMc - I'm thinking that Frogga was messing about in class the day they did Sex Ed so she's been sent back for retraining. :D Can you imagine what she might be coming out with? :rotfl: :rotfl: And if you tell us that you were the perfectly behaved pupil, Frogga, I'll not believe a word! You'll have been sitting on the back row secretly mimicking the teacher and making everyone laugh. :D

.... but I have now read that 70% choc in a small helping as a snack is fine. Just went and did some shopping, so got a fairtraid bare of plain 70%. Will break it into pieces and wrap in helpings. Will wear a mask so I can't smell it. The rest of the shopping was far more sensible, a load of veggies and whole grains.

Porridge for breakfast today, red pepper hummus (d & DD's recipe) which was fab, had with crudites and some salad, yoghurt(don't think this was too good, but will get round to not buying as many yoghurts soon. It was a surprisingly filling lunch. Dinner is lentil/vegi lasagne, which was stashed in the freezer HM.

I find that because dark chocolate like that is so dark, you can't eat much anyway! Just been to Lidl and the 70% chocolate they have (which is very nice by the way is reduced to 59p, think it was only 65p to start with but still!).

I think I'll try that. I went to Aldi today and was hoping to pick up some of their bars of plain, as it comes in 5 x 25g wrapped bar-lets! THey didn't have any plain ones.

I'mfeeling a bit vulnerable food wise at the moment. I have had quite a good day and now dh has gone out and the kids will be going shortly. I don't normally nibbble all evening or anything, but I don't want to blow things. I might make something Low GL, so that if I do succomb, then at least the damage won't be too great. Haven't had quota of fresh fruit today, that flapjack is calling to me. I had some last night. Hope that I can resist! I'll start with a cup of coffee. Can I get one for anyone else? It's decaff, but is fresh ground?

    Evening ladies:(

I'm sat here with my leg on the pouffe and a bag of frozen peas on it. _pale_
Some idiot had left some wire on the pavement and I tripped on it:doh: cutting both hands and my knee. Luckily I was near home and a very nice lady stopped and helped me home.
I felt sooooo stupid and burst into tears as soon as OH opened the door :o what made it worse was I have 2 pairs of work pants and was wearing the decent ones which now have a hole in the knee

My plan to make tea went out of the window and I had a bag of chips and a slice of bread and butter :o

So I'm really fed up now, don't think I'll be dancing tomorrow

Congrats Meanmarie  I was at the birth of my grandaughter, it was the most magical moment of my life.:D

MrsM - I thought he might come round quickly this time, he was desperate to talk about his new job and the cat didn't want to listen :rotfl: :rotfl:

Frogga - what is this sex thing you're talking about ;)

Right, I think I'll go and soak my aching bones in the bath.

    See you tomorrow ladies :A

I have a little guide for Glycemic Load eating. It says in there

"A general -but very important- point: The human body needs natural whole foods. As far as possible that means foods that do not have a label-e.g veg, fruit, nuts, fish, meat - or those that have been minimally processed, such as cold pressed oils and natural dairy produce, especially unsweetened yoghurt and fresh cheeses such as fromage frais and cottage cheese. If your shopping trolley contains lots of products with long lists of ingredients, then you will not become truly healthy. Of course we all indulge in a treat now and again (!!!!!!), but the bulk of our diets should be made up of the foods that nature intended for us."

    I thought this was interesting.

  • Hi All,

Not the best day foodwise with one thing and another. It poured with rain this morning and we thought we would be cooped up all day again but the sun came out in the early afternoon. We decided to go to a crocodile park that is about 2 hours away. We finally got there only to discover that it had closed down; the leaflet we had was several years out of date! So we went out for a meal instead as a treat as it was about 5.30pm by this time.

Breakfast: Right Balance cereal from Morrisons. Pineapple juice.
    Lunch: A Twix (Oh dear)
Tea: Half a ham and mushroom pizza. Orange

Last day of visitors tomorrow. We are hoping the weather will be fine enough to visit somewhere on the way to Malaga airport so it might mean an early start.
