What a busy thread today...... had my walk earlier....went to ALDI and back via the garden centre... have to get my head around thinking "only 1hrs walk" when its still the same bloomin distance as it was when it used to take me 1.5hr :wall: ...im just moving quicker

Help I need to loose some weight!!!!!!!!!!
I have just been diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and what with me being a staff nurse on a very busy childrens cardiac intensive care unit this is not god news!!!!!!!!!.
One of the things I can do to hopefully help this condithion and hpefully decrese the horrible pain is to loose some weight. However I have no will powerand could really do with some support and tips and hints.
Please help a very tired (I dont sleep with the pain) and stressed out nurseWorking hard to be debt free! :A0 -
Hello and welcome sazlberry
You will get more support on here than you know what to do with...
I think that for me... not using the god awful "D" word was a good start.. i still have loads to lose - but im now eating in a way that i can actually see myself doing for the rest of my life..not either ON or OFF a ruddy nother diet;) ..
I have stopped seperating food up into GOOD or BAD... i just choose to make more sensible choices..
proper food cooked from scratch -but in sensible portions..
If you let us know a little about you..apart from being an overworked nurse..will you just have yourself to cook for? and things you hate, love and we will probably be able to come up with some healthier versions for you and hope fully you will soon be losing a few lbs :T you have done the hard bit.. making a start;)
im sure everyone else will be along soon with loads of great advice... so welcome on board.. and hope you get lots of help and laughs along the way-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Hello again, just wondered if anyone here is on keeping their Glycemic Load down? I had a day of it today and felt OK, porridge for breakfast, nut loaf and salad, mandarin for lunch, small banana for snack and egg, mushrooms and tomatoes for dinner. Didn't want pizza anyway, though I made it for the family, who appreciated it. Somewhat spoilt it with the piece of flapjack just now, but no snacking between meals and no chocolate were steps forward for me!
.... but I have now read that 70% choc in a small helping as a snack is fine. Just went and did some shopping, so got a fairtraid bare of plain 70%. Will break it into pieces and wrap in helpings. Will wear a mask so I can't smell it. The rest of the shopping was far more sensible, a load of veggies and whole grains.
Porridge for breakfast today, red pepper hummus (d & DD's recipe) which was fab, had with crudites and some salad, yoghurt(don't think this was too good, but will get round to not buying as many yoghurts soon. It was a surprisingly filling lunch. Dinner is lentil/vegi lasagne, which was stashed in the freezer HM."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Purpleivy, yes that's right. Small amounts of very dark chocolate (70%+ cocoa solids) are quite good for you. The emphasis is on the small!
That type of chocolate is low GI, so it sustains your blood sugar - which keeps you feeling full - for longer. It's much lower in both sugar and fat, so has fewer calories than milk chocolate. Chocolate also contains iron.
You're also right about seeded bread. In fact foods that are less refined, or less cooked, are generally lower GI than their cooked, processed or pulverised versions - and lower GI is good.
Trying to figure out which foods are low GI and which are high is very tricky, but there's a list here: http://www.glycaemicindex.com/If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0 -
Hi, Well ive gone and F**Ked up AGAIN:mad:
Been really really bad with my eating last night and all today. Its stuff thats happening in the house, and I cant say on a public forum because im scared incase someone in my family recognises me, and finds out.
Ive been really really worried, and comfort eating all day, and basically its making me feel worse about myself. I feel is a no win situation.
What does everyone else do when they get like this.
Jackie
P.S Im really really sorry about this, I feel every time Im coming on here, its to moan, and I dont mean to, its just I dont know what to do about things.0
