  • Evening everyone!

Had my weigh in yesterday and lost..... absolutely nothing! Can't say I was that surprised to be honest - I had eaten reasonably healthily but know I chomped my way through far more calories than I should a few times, and obviously I can't get away with it.... it's not fair!! Like you Rose, I try and aim for around 1400 cals a day, but I'm pretty good at missing it completely!

Where are we up to now..... 3 weeks to bank hols isn't it? And I want to shift 5lb by then... hmm, think a bit of extra effort is going to be needed here!

Nice to see someone having a successful week among us strugglers - hey Chloebelle, well done you!:T

I've been wary of aspartame for about 10 years now after a colleague of mine found that everytime she dieted (eg used 'diet' foods) she used to swell up - literally. It would appear anywear and anywhen. She found she was allergic to it. I looked online and found loads of info for her, so made me wary of it.

I now use agave nectar (groovy food company) which is completely natural (available at all good supermarkets - but not cheap!)

I've stayed the same - but as I start the week with good intentions and then end up going out to lunch  with friends......

    Fresh start today ......:A
  • Evening

Just quickly dropping in before I settle in front of the tv for the night. Have done well in not cheating today, although I feel really sluggish, must increase water intake tomorrow.

B - Bran twigs and sultanas
L - Wholemeal pitta with salad and light philli cheese, apple.
D - Roast beef, roasties, brocolli, carrots and gravy.

Don't feel like snacking due to sluggishness (is that a word?!) which is a good thing - or not  .

Hugs to those who aren't having an easy time :)

    Hi

Not been here for a few days, ds off school, orch concert and all day chorus rehearsal over the weekend and now I'm poorly with the flu. Can't really think too much about losing weight. Don't seem to have lost my appetite, in spite of having a temperature all day.

Thank heavens I had some back up in the freezer. dug out some warming lamb casserole and bubble and squeak. DH even warmed it up! I was expecting to be in Harrogate for a meeting this evening and then going on to my parents. Instead I'm at home. Feeling rather miserable now.

Artificial sweeteners exacerbate my M.E. symptoms ..
Aspartame and alcohol are the worst offenders.
I drink water and do drink plenty of water as I get the headache, light headedness when I have not had enough to drink.
So I do have a healthy OS diet and drink lots of water but am struggling to shift my weight as I get these symptoms after very mild exercise (ie 100 yds walking).
    Better without the diet stuff.

i am back after discovering i have gained another 2 stone in last 3 months. have had it confirmed now that it is the medication that has got me in this atate. have gained 7 stone since slipping disc in june 2004. was so distraught when i saw how much more i gained i think i must have cried for hours. i could hear the scales groaing under my weight. another half stone and i wont be able to use them anymore so that is somewhere i have no intention of going. i think one of my main problems is that i dont actually go to bed at night as always in too much pain to get settled so i exist on a 24 hour loop so to speak so have no end or start of day so awake and about when everyone else in bed so means i eat more and smoke more. as of tonight i am not going to eat anything else now till 8 am (hopefully). i know i need to look at it with small goals but it seems such an impossible amount to lose and then worried if i do lose it will i have untold skin hanging from everywhere. i am following the paul mckenna "i can make you thin" program as i like his way of thinking, as in re-programming your mind as i do always end up gaining any weight i have lost before plus an additional half stone which he says is what diets are all about. so in short here i am again hoping all your fantastic stories will inspire me to tackle this mammoth task :o

    Hi Homealone :D

you poor thing, is there no way your doctor can have a look at your meds so that you can get into a routine with sleeping etc, ie time release painkillers etc?? , IMO being tired makes you feel even worse. Plus as you say you are awake when everyone else asleep, so that makes you feel quite lonely and down too (well it does for me anyway)

if you can perhaps get a bit more sorted you may be able to gain control of the eating/smoking???

you are certainly in the right place here for help though :D

i have been given a piece of information all about the perils of aspartame from a SW member I know and its frightening - I seem to eat so much of it but dont know what to replace it with!

    Hi Taplady,

Sweeteners are really insidious, there has been a lot of research that shows their damaging effects, but because they are produced by big powerful companies it gets swept under the carpet.

You can google and find out more about it if you are interested, I read a lot about the subject and decided that I would rather have a bit of sugar than a lot of artificial sweeteners. I include aspartame, splenda, saccharine and all the other non-real-food sweeteners in circulation.

One such link (really scary stuff but well researched and documented) is:

    http://houseofstrauss.co.uk/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=504

If you cannot be without sugar just add a little less every time, I suppose, there is no substitute when it comes to sugar in coffee or tea, other than reducing it gradually until you no longer miss it.

Re. food, you can sweeten it with other stuff, for example dried fruit in porridge and muesli, fresh fruit with natural yogurt etc...but ultimately once in a while personally I find it nice to have a sweet or pudding made with the real things, sugar included, and count it into my daily diet.

    Hope this helps!
