  • Well done aaroncaz and alfiesmum on your losses. :T :T

Lovely to see you here Lisa - going to have a gander at your thread now that mum has gone home. ;)

Am so fed up, totally insanely angry over something so stupid but my hackles are up and I'm prickling all over. This will sound pathetic and I do feel guiltyish, but I've just thrown a big box of chocolates away in temper.
Mum did the usual, brought them round saying 'don't suppose you're allowed these..' munch munch.
I did my usual 'allowed anything I want but don't want.' She looked hurt then sulky (I know, I know.. she's older and I should let it ride) but she then said that my dad keeps buying them and she doesn't want to have them in the house.
I explained that I didn't eat much choc like I used to as I'd told her before and the last lot went to DS2 (who frankly is a little tubby bless him). I told her I felt bad giving them to him as he doesn't have the willpower to not wap them back and it was unfair of me. I said sorry but no thanks this time.

She was bit put out and said she'd best put them back in her bag. I changed the subject to get on a better note and nothing more said.
Nipped upstairs just before I took her home and when I came in she looked a bit nervous. Looked over to DS1 and he was holding the chocs. Nan had given them to him to share with DS2.     Waits till I'm out of way and gives them to the poor little kid anyway!
As DS2 didn't know yet I got the box off DS1 (who she knows hate liqeuars (sp?) and I chucked them in the bin.
Now I feel awful. Hate waste and hate being angry with her but I also hate the fact she keeps doing this. Feel bad enough that DS2 has some of my old eating habits and I'm trying to help him without making it obvious that he needs to curb the choc a bit. He's same age as me when mum bunged me on my first diet and I've never been off one since. Want it to be different for him.

I just wish everything wasn't a battle of wills with her and she'd just say 'tell me how i can help' without acting like we're fighting separate corners.

Sorry, just feeling naff. Will calm down, cook dinner and be more positive.

I'm back from my friend's in India. (She's the dark haired one in the avatar).
Yes I did lose some weight, because I was eating OS and sensibly. Rice and vegetables mostly.
She showed me how to make chappatties. I bought some chappatty flour from Mr T's, but ordinary brown flour might do.
    Cup of flour.
    Touch of salt.
Hot water to make a softish dough, rather like playdoh than plasticine. Indeed playdoh is only flour and water.;)
Play with the dough until it is pliable. Pinch off a walnut size piece and rollout thinly. Hers came out perfectly. Mine were lopsided:rotfl:
Heat a grid on the gas hob. We used a special gadget that is like a flat metal colander. A pizza tray with holes in will be OK, or even a BBQ griddle . A frying pan would also do.
Cook the chappatty on medium heat on one side for about 1 minute, then flip over and cook the other side. Turn up the heat. The chappatty will balloon up. Bash it down with a metal fish slice. Flip. It will balloon again. Bash it down. Flip. Repeat again until it looks lovely.
    Place in a warm place.
Turn the heat to medium. Make more......
    Delicious.
    Cheap OS and no fat.
(Can have added oil or ghee if you want. We didn't).
  • I am agapanthus and I am too fat! There, said it...

I'm not doing very well on the diet at the moment, so it's out with the low-fat chicken cook book and sort out the portion sizes now.

Here's my way of dealing with the chocolate problem - I don't buy it. There is no chocolate in our house and hasn't been since I ate it all just after Christmas. :o If I have it in the house, I eat it. Zero willpower. I try to make a point of always going to the supermarket when I've just eaten. If I'm not really hungry when I shop then I'm much less likely to stray!

So when I head for the fridge, I know it's full of carrots, celery etc and if that's all there is then that's what I snack on. I've no choice!
If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?

    Cheerfulness4..
Your mum is slightly jealous of you, so does this to get your hackles up. My Mum always did the same.
Why not ask her to bring round all the chocolates she doesn't want. You can use them. That is almost a guarantee that she won't bring any ever again.....;););););)
If she does bring them round, thank her for them. Say you'll use them later.
She's not bringing the chocolates around to get a lovely "Thankyou" from you,,, she's bringing them round PRECISELY because YOU DON'T WANT THEM. Gives her power.
SOOOO Give her a hug and a huge thankyou and say you'll savour them later.
THEN IMAGINE THEM COVERED IN GRAVY and GIVE THEM AWAY TO A CHOCOLATE EATER...firemen, nursing home, homeless shelter... whatever
  • My post above was written before I'd seen cheerfulness's one. I've had the gift chocolates problem too - my solution was to take them to the office and share them round. That way I only got to eat one!

Now I've retired, I can't do that any more, so I give them to my daughter and she takes them to her office!:D

    Hi all!
Agapanthus - thats a really good point about not going shopping on an empty tum!:T
I find I cant do anything on an empty tum!:D I always carry a banana and a SW hifi bar(type of hi fibre cereal bar) around with me and a bottle of water.this stops me reaching for the choccie when I'm out.

Cheerfulness - your Mum should be supporting you:rolleyes: mind you mine's not much better - she keeps making comments about my sister such as 'she'll never lose weight she eats too much' and about me - 'she's too thin she doesn't ned to lose any more weight' all the time she's trying to lose it herself by either starving herself or eating cakes and scones! she wont listen to good advice.

Had mackerel on toast for lunch and a banana mid afternoon. Just about to tuck into quorn curry - am also having an onion bhaji:eek: :D

    see you all later

ps hope things are going ok Caterina!;)
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Thanks girls. I don't know why I let this get me to tears again. I'm so mad with myself.

I think deep down I'm maybe not as confident about keeping strong as I like to think. I knew from last time this happened that the clever thing to do was give them away but I needed them gone that minute.. before I caved in and stuffed the lot while crying. It's so easy to be that near the edge of losing it.

Its guilt really. I was upset this time cos of explaining to her about DS2 and knowing that its down to me that he's overweight...he learnt to copy me. Giving him the chocs last time was selfish.. I just didn't think, but this time I was determined that I wouldn't make it his probs and it nearly was if I hadn't spotted what was happening.

I think that I need to c & p the replies from you all this time, and look out the ones from when I was upset last time it happened and save them ready for next time. Realistically, it will happen again because trying to explain hasn't made a jot of difference to her. If I can't change things I just gotta get more prepared to deal with them.

Anyway, not to bring the positive spirit down... I have managed to eat well and not rush for foodie comfort. :o

Ditched the idea of bacon butties, did mum hers and in true teenage rebellion fashion I stood my ground and went for HM soup. You know, I actually think that I really prefer it now. Am I getting healthy for real??

M.E - you bought recipes back! YAY. I've never had a chapatti... I'm not sure exactly what they look like but I can't resist trying them.
I love all the recipes you lot post. :D

Agapanthus & taplady - thank you both too. ;)

I'm going to read that thread squeaky posted now and chill.

I am so relieved I found you lot. ;)

    Oh you made me laugh!!

As for choccies/crisps in the house, I have them for my DS. but I don't touch ANY of them, think I am so scared of not losing any weight:D tell a lie though, been making him chocolate cakes, and I just have to lick the spoon!

What i find the hardest if you are out at lunchtime, and need to eat, what do you eat? Last week I had a sausage roll from Greggs, was so starved by then.

Evening ladies:hello: Feeling better now, I've had a grudging apology from OH
His first day was ok - he had to apologise 'cos he needed to talk about it and there's only me :rotfl:or the cat:rotfl:

I had veggie sausages, a jacket spud and beans for tea, I'll have a yoghurt in a bit and a glass of wine, I opened a bottle on Friday so it needs finishing tonight (that's my excuse) :p

Lots of walking today s I'm back on the train. I didn't get a pedometer at the weekend but will try tomorrow in town.

Welcome to all the newbies :T

Cheerfulness - my Mum used to go on about my weight all the time. We were in DottyP's once and she shouted right across the shop "dear g*d our Lynn, you haven't 'alf put some weight on your backside!!" Then insisted on buying creamcakes when we went for coffee! She would look offended when I refused biscuits or cake and was always offering toffees. When I did lose weight she would tell me I looked gaunt and was too thin, I eventually accepted that I couldn't win with her!! She's passed away now but I learned never to comment on my daughter's weight. (She's 5'9", weighs less than 8 stone and was back in size 8 jeans a week after the second baby:mad:   ) She obviously takes after her Dad...........

    See you tomorrow folks:A
