Have over spent and now although the debt isn't huge, £4000 or so, its more than I can manage, and will take years not months to pay off. So I am taking it seriously and have now got stuff on Amazon, Ebay, ready for car boots etc. and have a part time job. Have allowed myself £10 a month for treats. I can't really afford it, but if I don't I might not be so determined.
But I can relate to the DVD thing. Sitting here now looking at Lost boxed set 1,2 and 3. Heroes series 1. Lord of the Rings - all of them! Matrix boxed set. Monty Python. The list goes on and on and on and on. Not to mention the other 230 DVDs that are on the shelf. Will I put them on Amazon to get some of my money back.... Am trying to be Amazon, Ebay neutral. this might be an idea if you have any DVDs that you don't watch.
Well done for tackling your debt and being so controlled - £10 a month, wow. And the huge amount of DVDs! If you only make a profit of £2 on each which is easily done on ebay, then you made £500 and cleared 8% of your debt straight away, saving a lot in interest!!!!!
Yes, I will sell my unused dvds too but I just sold loads on ebay so hardly any left...Total debt £3625.07.

I'm living on 11 quid a week, running a three bed house and two cats... but where is all the other money going?! I've lost the plot lately with the diary and the keeping my finances in control..
Please kick me up the backside and help me get rid of the bluddy Virgin card before it gets me... lol

charlies Angel, cut up that card, you don't need it.
Write down everything you spend on, everything!! And think befre you spend, it works for me sometimes... like yesterday, my friend owed me £2, so she gave it to me. Later on I got to tesco and I just REALLY wanted those blueberries for £1.99 (aren't they the best, love 'em...) - so I was thinking, this is exactly the £2, if my friend had given me a choice earlier, saying "do you want a packet of blueberries or do you want your two quid" what would I have said? It became obvious: I needed the two quid more than the overpriced blueberries
Virgin card: cut it up, cut it up! :j :j :T cut it up!!! snip snipTotal debt £3625.07.

Welcome to the club, member #3 Wildchild :j:j:j
why is it that renting dvds aren't as much of a satisfaction as buying them??? is it just the shiny new case which sums up the movie? or what is it about them? its the fact that even if you dont like the movie, its yours forever???
what else do you spend on that you should be spending on? For me it's also comfort food... used to be books but since bought new shiny laptop, i am a dvd addictbut books still make me weak...
Thanks! I'll go and add that to my sig!
Yes buying DVDs is great, I love them. My other spends are food - but I've put myself on a really strict diet so I have cut down on that.
I also love bags and shoes. And then there are magazines! I can go months without buying any and then suddenly I have to have some, and I buy loads.
I am like that with lots of things actually. I go from one extreme to another so I think after I move to Europe and me and DH know how much we will get after tax I will do a proper budget and give myself a little luxury money every month to spend on whatever I want. That way I might feel less deprived!

I know what you mean about going extreme. I can go a week living on £4 (I think, hehe) but then on Sunday I blow it and spend £45 on dinners out. Pathetic. That's why the little "treats" money is needed. You are less likely to feel the need to overspend because you're so deprived…
So you're moving to europe? Where?

Yeah, I'm off to Holland to work in a furniture business with DH. I will be starting on 1 march as I am Dutch so I can work there. OH will have to wait up to 45 days to get a permit as he is Czech but as we are married he is guaranteed to get it.
He already has a job waiting for him. I will be doing sales and he will be doing warehouse stuff in the same company.
And we'll both be earning OK money so that will make a nice change![STRIKE]CC 1: £102[/STRIKE] / C[STRIKE]C 2: £349[/STRIKE] / [STRIKE]CC 3: £1000[/STRIKE]

Hi Deliciosa
Many thanks for this post. Like other posters it rang bells with me. I look at the dreadful situations other people are in and think ‘Thank heavens I’m not that bad.’ I have a car loan due to finish in May (and budgeted for) and one credit card and I always pay more than the minimum each month.
However this time last year I cleared my then CC debt with money from my retirement lump sum and promised myself to live within my new income.
So why one year on do I have a CC balance of £1600?
Yesterday I sat and listed and identified all the shopping I had done on my CC. I can justify all of it – either for house or for my hobbies or interests – I don’t drink much, go out for meals or get takeaways. But I am obviously living beyond my means. Not by much, but it doesn’t have to be by much.
So your post has made me realise that I need to stop and think before I spend.
Now got to decide whether to raid savings to clear CC or make myself pay it off from income (got it on 0% BT) so I learn to budget – not just talk about it.
P.S. My weakness is books not DVDs0 -

Hi there
I know what you mean, looking at the CC bill and wondering where the hell it came from.. then looking at the items, and saying "Oh, that's it" and "Yeah, I remember now"....
But £1600 is not that bad, if it's on a 0% card I wouldn't pay it off with the savings as savings earn some interest. Wait until the 0% deal finished
so you're a Waterstones addict? :j :TTotal debt £3625.07.
