Ah I know the cravings only too well....
My suggestion.... go and get a glass of water, and sip that till its finished. If you're still craving it then, have another glass of water and sip that...
I'd say its probably a sugar high thats making you think you want another one....

What religion is the shabbat in? I'm so socially !!!!!! when it comes to religion!

And you're not fat Im sure, but I'd say 'reward yourself' for the jelly babies with an unwatched dvd and step-athon tonight. I've vowed to watch one of my dvd's tonight, memoirs of a geisha or curse of the golden flower? Hmm choices choices...

I wont be around tomorrow as Im working but mighthop on tomorrow evening.. I actually like working saturdays as it stops me from going out into the crazy high street and stressing out with all the crowds!:rotfl:

Hello :) I will try the water thing with the diet coke but Im afraid I will want it jsut the same after 3 glasses of water.... hehe. I had one yesterday but that was free - my friend offered.

But the DVDs! I managed not to buy one when we went to hmv! And it was so hard as loads of stuff was on sale for £3, £4 etc.. gosh how i wanted to stack up, and I resisted - well done me! (I messed it up on dinner tho because I spent £15:eek: but I guess it was worth it as it was big social diner, lasted for 5 hours, they gave us free fruit basket at end so no fruit shopping for a week, and it was HEALTHY! (lebanese) - see how I am justifying the expense? Ok I messed up. I won't do it again.

which dvd did you go for - I love them both but right now I'd go for the geisha... :T

shabbat is jewish - forbids spending from friday sundown to saturday sundown. also forbids any activity or work, but yay it forbids spending! I never looked at it as a convenient thing, but from now on! (That's why i get loads of starbucks drinks free on saturday, as the starbucks ppl near our synagogue know we cant pay and they know us so they make free drink sometimes ... the manager is a really nice chap. And we make it up to them by sometimes organising meetings there with loads of ppl so they spend a lot (and we spend too...) :j so it all depends on whos the manager on duty on a sat afternoon :j yesterday was one of our lucky days.

So how was your saturday - did you resist going out and buying everything the high street has to offer? :rotfl:

    Hey there

Glad to see there are more DVD addicts out there! I love buying DVDs and I know I really have to stop but I find it so hard!

Can I join your tough love club too. Might just help me out until I pay off my debts! I've been having a really bad spending month!!! So could do with an extra push.

Welcome to the club, member #3 Wildchild :j:j:j

why is it that renting dvds aren't as much of a satisfaction as buying them??? is it just the shiny new case which sums up the movie? or what is it about them? its the fact that even if you dont like the movie, its yours forever???

what else do you spend on that you should be spending on? For me it's also comfort food... used to be books but since bought new shiny laptop, i am a dvd addict :o but books still make me weak...

I've even managed to make dinner solely from the kitchen contents and convinced other half that we do NOT NEED any more dvds this side of payday (for him) and me (ever again!)

I'll work on him some more :)

Ok I know its all about tough love but this "ever again" is kind of harsh, no??:eek: why not "ever again until we pay off debt and have savings"? :j:j or "until I earn £120k a yr"...

Well done for convincing OH tho

LOL tough love until I've paid back the debts which I probably used to buy the ones I've got now and havent watched!

Didnt end up watching either as was too poorly so just went to bed! Will endeavour to watch one tonight! Still cant decide which

Thats really cool about the Starbucks thing, it's nice to have a mutual understanding somewhere, esp with a big brand name!
I managed my whole saturday without spending a penny, and tonight when OH suggested a takeaway I said no, and have made freezer food for dinner again! I'm getting good at this!

My only worry is when I do actually have to spend some money I wont be able to restrain myself again after that! Downhill spiral  :rotfl:

Hi there Deliciosa, just nominated this as post of the month. I think you were brave to post this and i admire your honesty well done and keep up the good work!
  • Have been reading this thread on and off today. Well done for the honesty. I can't relate to what you are saying as I'm in the other boat. Have over spent and now although the debt isn't huge, £4000 or so, its more than I can manage, and will take years not months to pay off. So I am taking it seriously and have now got stuff on Amazon, Ebay, ready for car boots etc. and have a part time job. Have allowed myself £10 a month for treats. I can't really afford it, but if I don't I might not be so determined.

But I can relate to the DVD thing. Sitting here now looking at Lost boxed set 1,2 and 3. Heroes series 1. Lord of the Rings - all of them! Matrix boxed set. Monty Python. The list goes on and on and on and on. Not to mention the other 230 DVDs that are on the shelf. Will I put them on Amazon to get some of my money back.... Am trying to be Amazon, Ebay neutral. this might be an idea if you have any DVDs that you don't watch.

  • :T deliciosa for saying what we were all thinking....

I'm living on 11 quid a week, running a three bed house and two cats... but where is all the other money going?! I've lost the plot lately with the diary and the keeping my finances in control..

Please kick me up the backside and help me get rid of the bluddy Virgin card before it gets me... lol

Well done for not spending!! I am truly impressed (I messed up on Sunday - £30 dinner (I had to pay for my friend too as they didn't take her card....) but hey it's a new week and I am def. NOT making that mistake again...

I don't think you will not be able to rstrain yourself. But you know hwo it goes after a big diet, lets say you've been to a hiospital, major operation etc - you start eating normal food slowly and gradually... so you dont get ill again. its the same with spending.. once you're cured of spendaholicness and debt, you start spending again but only little by little ;);)
