When you list a book that has someone waiting for it it comes up in a box at the side, it obviously doesn't tell you how much they are prepared to pay

Thats not right the average price the buyer is willing to pay comes up in red in the box. Also what you say isnt right about the potential buyer getting an email when you list your book. If you list your book at the price in the box the sale usually goes through automatically without the buyer knowing. Sometimes, it may take a few days or not go through at all because its takes the amazon database a few days to update and the buyer waiting indication may be phantom.

Finally, sellers should be very wary of buyer waiting offers as many of them are just attempts by people to get hold of a copy of a rare book cheaply. Ive seen numerous buyer waiting offers where a book might be worth say £ 50 and they are only offering £ 5.

  • Again - thanks Pete, you clearly sell more books than me and I'm really pleased that you've pitched in to correct my anomalies.

I rarely get a 'buyer waiting' note so I'm not up to date on how the system works at the moment but the last one I did get didn't name a price, that must have been a phantom as you say, and it didn't sell.

I am a new seller on Amazon. I have sold about 25 books and I'm very pleased with how it is going. Today I sold a book for £5.00, but on checking I found that there is only one other copy for sale for £49.95. It is a BBC book (The Victorian Kitchen Garden Companion ,hardback) It is in excellent condition, unread. Should I cancel the sale and relist it? or should I post the book and complete the sale.I am very unsure. If anyone can offer advice I would be very grateful.

I wouldn't personally. I would take it on the chin and learn from the mistake. But I guess there's nothing to stop you claiming you've already sold it, refunding, waiting a few days and re-listing. Seems a little unethical to me though

I'm not a seller so may be wrong, but surely if you have sold something you can't now just ignore your buyer and relist for more money? If it is possible to do that without amazon getting cross then I can't see how buyers could have any faith that when they buy and pay for something that the sale is final.

I noticed that someone had feedback of 1 star amongst lots of 5 stars that said 'Seller said they had sold item but then relisted at a higher price'.

That's the risk you take I guess.

I'd echo the others and say let it go and learn by your mistake.
  • I'm sorry, I agree that you have to go through with it but if it's any consolation you see some very high prices on books and some look so ridiculous I'm sure that they'll never sell at that price.
The one you saw for £49.95 might still be there waiting for a buyer for months to come.

Thanks for the advice, it's what I thought.

I did check all the prices when I listed my books. I suppose there must have been another book inbetween which has since gone.I do think £49.95 is a ridiculous price, Ill be interested to see if it does sell.

    I'll post the book today.
