    Morning all,

Keep me a glass or two please, N9eav, I might be a bit late!

    Hillstep...special hugs and prayers...

    Catowen...congratulations on your win...again.

Novice...welcome, take it easy and enjoy your recuperation.

Aussie...not sure that you could make a jam with elderflowers...best I can advise would be to make a jelly using some fruit...rhubarb, apples, any one you like, putting in several flower heads at cooking stage and then straining all out, you will get a nice 'elderflower perfume' taste from finished product. DD4 made a nice jam with gooseberries and elderflowers last year, that might be worth a try. You can bulk freeze the heads too as they freeze well.

Didn't see the tv programme featuring freegans, will check links Squeaky provided later, have seen programmes before and was horrified at the amount that supermarkets throw out...have an idea that there is some stupid EU law that doesn't allow them give things away and I wouldn't consider it stealing to take something out of a bin, but think that the law may do so. I would very much agree that people who have never contributed to the national 'pot' should not take from it, seems to be a problem all over, the only solution to benefit theft seems to be not to have any which of course is grossly unfair to those who need them....too early for me to be so philosophical, but you get my drift!

Queenpig...not sure what you want to bake, but I have very successfully made scones, bread and 'sponges' on top of stove in a heavy frying pan with a lid...if you have gas you would need to figure out the setting for yourself, but low/medium will work on electricity.

    PenPen...glad you enjoyed your ceilidh.

    Morning all

It's taken me forever to get on here today. Manic day.

Had a lovely weekend catching up with friends and spending time with my sister. Went to the cinema on Friday - over £20:eek: that was just for two people.

Seeing the solicitor later to exchange on the flat:T

Was meant to go speed dating tonight, but it's been cancelled. Also got to look into getting a cashback credit card

    Must press on

    Hope everyone's ok

  • I think some gentle experimentation with my new slow cooker is in order. I'm going to take a slow and steady walk to the butchers for fresh air and fresh meat.

Just back from butchers with a kilo gammon to boil in the slow cooker! Also got 4 huge chicken breasts and a kilo of minced beef, whole lot came to £17.49. Butcher said I looked like a rabbit in the headlights  , unsurprising as I'm not used to interactive meat buying! I'm normally at w**k when the butchers is open.
    Highest debt - £24500

    Current debt - £0 !!!! :)

    Debt-free date - 4 AUGUST 2006 :D

Thanks MeanMarie :A Nobody & let me repeat nobody  answered my question except you. :p:D Sniff, sniff. I planted an elderflower when we got back and I have made cordial out of the flowerheads. It was lovely. I notice they have little berries on the bush now from the flowerheads I didn't pick (not enough for another batch) and I thought you could make jam out of them where I didn't take the flowers earlier. Thanks for the freezing tip. I didn't know.

Thanks for nothing for everyone else. :p:DWell I've had a good dose of CSI. Sarah lives just in case we are ahead of you. :p

CM Well how unusual, HM bread for lunch.
    Hillstep <hugs> and prayers.
Ruby Haribo will behave. Her new boobs are still too sore. :D And I'm not getting confused. :p
Scuzz Hope their are no hiccups on the flat. Congrats. :T
Cat Well done and if you win the tractor can you come and slash the block next to me. It's really long and I'm worried about snakes. I actually rang the council today and complained. Most unlike me. :D

Twink He did but not as much as he enjoys Anzacs. :p:D

Well I'm off to bed. One needs one's beauty sleep. Hope the rest of your day is happy. Byeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Well, that's because you were asking for one thing, and wanted another  :p Luckily, Mean Marie has perfected the art of mind reading, and was able to answer your question.

If what you want are elder berry jam recipes (rather than elder flower) there are lots of recipes here :D
