arkonite_babe I have a duff back too and was warned off cross-trainers by my consultant. He suggested a treadmill would be more appropriate (great pity as I hate treadmills). I don't think there is a definitive answer..if you ask 20 specialists you get 20 different answers.

See, that's afar far too organised there Janren. The thought of counting all day just depresses me.

For those who may have "slipped" today and are feeling a little crap do not feel bad about it - I've had half a pack of Jaffa cakes and a bottle of wine. It may not be doing much for weight loss but I fell wonderful!

If I wake up early again tomorrow, I'm going to force myself out of bed and to the gym/out for a wadddle (it should be a run but I'll happily admit it's more a waddle..)

writing it down keeps me on the straight and narrow - i've a tendency to underestimate what I've ate unless i write it all down :o, that's just my way of doing things - each to their own, i say.

what makes it easier is that i never need to look up the calorific value of anything in a book - i've been yo-yo dieting for so long i have gotten to know the values of most things i eat :rotfl:

we all have our bad days - too many bad days consecutively is what got me into my current position of needing to lose weight .... i have to steer clear of jaffa cakes in particular - i may have had the whole packet polished off ;)

  • I went to the ww class yesterday and have to say very nearly didnt go in, i felt nervous about going in alone plus going back to the same ww class i went to a few yrs ago.
I have to say i was slightly shocked at the scales but hey ho i am doing something about it now.
Today was my first proper day counting points and i have been surrounded by temptation, i have been making party food all day and wanting to nibble so much.

  • Jetboy - thanks for the info

Irishmummyof2 - Well done for going to the ww class, we're all proud of you.

    My eats today:
    breakkie - cup of tea
    mid morning - ham jambon
tea - mashed potatoes, braised steak pieces and lots of veggie
cup of tea and 2 hob nobs

My best friend actually had a cross trainer he no longer wanted so he has kindly donated that to me and my Mum :j
We will give it a go and see how we get on. We think we will try a dancercise DVD as well, any recommendations on those??

Must do better with the eats tomorrow. Some mornings I just feal nauseous at the thought of food as I'm on the go so early, any better ways I could deal with this? I'm usually up and on the road for between 0530 and 0600 then tend to eat on the run if indeed I do eat anything during the day at work. My down fall seems to be evening times, especially the weekends, where I can pig out quite spectacularly :D

I'm not sure the theory about eating breakfast keeping weight down works for everyone. When I was at uni I never ate breakfast, it would have been a big scone, butter & jam in the students union about 11 am with a coffee. It usually kept me going til after lunch and I was a size 8/10. I find I loose weight easier if I don't have breakfast. The only reason I eat it nowadays is because I have to eat a small snack at bedtime for my blood sugar levels at night and it makes me hungry for breakfast.

I think people need to concentrate more on what suits their bodies needs rather than what is perceived to be the correct thing to do.

Looking at a veggie site recently I realised if I ate all the portions of fruit/veg/nuts/pulses that they recommended for vegans each day I'd be increasing my calorie and fat intake and would put on weight :undecided

  • Well done IrishMummy, the first time is always the worst. And at least you know the damage now.... it's a step ahead from ignoring it.

Arkonite I know what you mean about early morning eating. Would it be possible to even have half a banana or something and bring something with you to eat when you do get hungry? Or are you on the go all day?

Sleepymy I know what you mean about some veggie stuff being high cal. I always think if I could bring myself to focus on vegetables it would help a lot :) but of course I like cheese a lot better than beetroot!

Anyway I had an ok day today but am up here hiding out from the kitchen tonight. Just got back from a v intensive night class and DH is watching attilla the hun in the sitting room so spent the last hour in the kitchen snacking :( Didn't do too much damage - leftover pasta salad from dinner and half a bowl of porridge - but still calories I can't afford if I'm going to lose my stone in 8 weeks. Managed to do 70 mins walking today (walked to and from a meeting across town, 4 miles in total). But no gym. Ah well. It's definitely a weightloss day in any case.

Hope you are all doing okay!

hmmm .. even within a beginner level class i imagine the place would be full of skinny lycra-clad types!

would defo consider doing pilates when i've lost a bit more weight ... my physio got me to do some pilates-type exercises following a recent injury, i reckon it would be fab for toning purposes...

  • Hi Everyone  ,

Mind if I join in too????

I'm 37 with 2 kids and need to lose loads of weight. I am aiming to do small & steady, I love my food and want to eat normal family meals with slightly smaller portions.

I've been basing my "Healthy Eating" (never say diet as I turn into Pac Man), on an 80/20 plan.....good 80% of the time, naughty 20%. I love my treats on a saturday night.

I've been following this plan for about 4-5 weeks and have so far lost 9.5lbs. I weigh-in on a Friday morning so I can have a few treats at the weekend and try to be good during the week.

    Todays grub......

Breakfast: Porridge with semi-skimmed milk & raisins, glass OJ.

Lunch: 2 slices toast with some grated cheese & lea & perrins grilled.

    Dinner: H/m chilli & rice.

Looking forward to a few glasses of vino later.

    Good luck everyone :j
  • Hi, may I join too?

I had lost 20lbs with WW last year but have put most of it back on again and now none of my nice clothes fit me. I have gone back to WW which does work for me - as long as I stick at it - and at the minute I need some motivation to stick at it. I have just ate 4 Penguins (the choccy ones as opposed to the feathered ones) and am really annoyed with myself.

I think losing weight is about where you are at mentally and I am really trying to be positive - this thread may just give me the motivation I need. I go to the gym - 30 minute women-only circuits - three times each week so am quite toned but I just can't stop eating - help.
