Hi happymummy and welcome!!
Well I weighed myself and it isn't as bad as I expected considering the month I had in December (a very sad and sudden death in the family, two colds and a seriously cricked neck). I've only gained about 1.5lb and am now 12.3 or 78kilos. So I am aiming to lose 500g per week, this is just over 1lb which is manageable I think. This is for the foreseeable alas
The thing I did succeed in during December was staying off chocolate totally despite all the christmas temptations. But I'm afraid I've backslid totally on the cheese front and have to get this in hand - too many festive cheeseboards. I've also been drinking a little nearly every night which isn't good since it encourages me to eat more. And no gym at all which is terrible, and in fact very little exercise at all. So the resolutions:
Walk at least 30 mins a day
Gym at least 4 times a week
No cheese except as part of a meal
No wine for January (easier as DH is away)
Keep a note of my calories for January
Eat more beans, pulses, more healthily generally!
If I can do all this I'll def lose my 2kgs this month
Anyone else got any resolutions?0 -
Tara747, SW is based on red and green days, red days you eat mainly meat and fish, green days its all potatoes/pasta etc. You have 'free' foods of which you can eat as much as you like, so you can fill yourself up on fruit and veg, and then on red days meat is free and green pasta/potates etc is free.
It is a bit complicated to explain on here but on a typical red day I would have a smoothe for breakfast, chicken/ham salad for lunch and then something like a fry or steak for dinner and a green day I would have cereal for brekkie, savoury rice for lunch and then an omlette or scrambled eggs for dinner.
On your red days you can have a small about of pasta and likewise on green you can have a small amount of meat.
If you go to the website http://www.slimmingworld.com/ you'll find more info and loads of sample menu's etc.
I honestly found it simpler once I had got used to it than WW as there's not as much counting and I found I was more free for choice, but everyone is different!
Good luck!!:j Norn Iron Club Member No. 343 :j0 -
Hello all. Welcome, happymummy. How is the fast going? What are you actually consuming, is it just water?
sparky40, thanks for the explanation. I must check out the SW site!
belfastgirl23, sorry to hear about your bereavement. Well done on the chocolate front and I like your resolutions. I'm going to post some of my own so that I can see them in black and white.
I really want to join a gym and they are all so expensive! Fitspace on the Boucher Road looks pretty cheap but on the dark evenings I would be afraid to walk there on my own. A gym in town wouls be better for lunchtime visits. Another option would be classes. Does anyone know of any classes (dance, aerobics, kickboxing - anything) around the Lisburn Road area?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
I kept up the detox for 2 days just drinking hot water with a squeeze of lemon and i honnestly felt i was ready to face the world...i felt so 'clean':o
I have now started cereal for breakfast and lunch and am sticking to a low cal dinner.I have cut out absolutly everything else.finding it hard in the evenings though when girls are in bed and we are watching tv....i have been having early nights just to hide from the cravings, lol.
Took a walk upto stormont yesterday...and i fely very healthy indeed-kids were complaining and wanted to catch the sightseeing bus back down to the car,lol
I am not able to join a gym much as i would like to-if only for the me time,lol-so im walking at least 30mins a day from tomorrow which will be taking kids to school.

I posted my resolutions yesterday, where did they disappear to??? :embarasse
OK, here they are again:
Lose 0.5 stone by 21 Feb
Lose 1 stone by 10 April
Lose 1.5 stone by 31 May
Reduce body fat from 28.3% to 22%
Be more toned and fit into all my skinny clothes as I am too MSE to buy new ones!
Walk to and from work every day (one hour in total) and refuse all offers of a lift from OH!
Walk for 45 minutes at least 4 evenings a week
Walk for an hour at least 3 lunchtimes a week
Do resistance exercises and join an exercise/dance class if I can find a good one
Eat more fruit, vegetables, beans, wholegrains and pulses
Dig out recipe books and get new inspiration
Eat smaller portions and tell OH to give me less on my plate when he cooks (maybe I should buy baby plates and cutlery like Liz Hurley, ha ha)
Stop eating chocolate, biscuits, sweets, crisps, buns and cakes - they are just full of evil horrible sugar
Stop snacking between meals (except fruit, raw veg or nuts)
Drink less alcohol
Be better at housework and do a little at a time rather than leaving it to build up (visit Flylady thread more often, although it scares me how organised they all are)
Spend less
Save more
Buy a house if prices drop to a sensible level
Be a better girlfriend, friend, daughter and sister
Smile at people more in shops etc
Laugh more!
Phew, that'll do for now! :jGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

happymummy, well done on the walking, you are doing great!
When you were doing the fast, were you at home? I'm not sure if I could function on just water if I was at work. I think Allen Carr talked about having a Fast Day once a week and it does sound like a good idea. I could only manage the one though!!
So far today I have had muesli for breakfast and HM veg soup with a slice of brown bread for lunch. I also ate two Roses about half an hour ago, the shame!!!! I need to be prepared for the mid-afternoon energy dip, I'll bring in some fruit tomorrow.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Hi All
I just started SW again today - want to lose 2 stone and feeling really focused. I did SW for a few months last year and lost weight but i really wasnt focused and let it slide!
I think i'll get on grand this time, enjoying planning meals and i love cooking so cooking from scratch won't be a problem for me!
just need to fight that craving i have for a cheese and onion crisp sandwich!! (debating using my HEX nimble bread and syns for walkers light crisps for a snack this evening!)0 -
I could never do a fast day, I'm too much of a starvo
so hats off to anyone who can.
Not exactly lived up to my resolutions yet, I'm back to work tomorrow though and that's when all the hard work starts properly. I'm still in the middle of all of the death paperwork - if anyone hasn't got a will by the way GET ONE - and have been doing a little comfort eating although mainly of healthy stuff. Well the comforting has to stop now!
Gym and walk tomorrow!
And good luck with the resolutions Tara, I should have several more of yours but I don't think my discipline is up to it at the minute!0 -
Thanks belfastgirl23. I'm sure this is a very tough time for you so don't be too hard on yourself. :grouphug:
I had more HM soup for dinner with some crusty bread (and low fat spread), then grapes afterwards - and the last mince pie. :embarasse So I've done well with the main meals but badly with snacks! Must get focused. I walked to and from work and for about an hour at lunchtime so at least that's something.
Tomorrow I will remember to bring my pedometer and measure my body fat. That's another of my resolutions I posted yesterday - to reduce my body fat from 28.3% (ish) to 22%. Will go and update my post now, then print it and stick it on the wall!!
I came across the free weight loss hypnotherapy download thing too, I will download it to my iPod and see if it works. :T
mofopants, love the username!!Feel free to share your recipes, I love getting ideas from others. Good luck and keep us posted.

Joined WW with my DW last night so first day on diet. Going allright so far. Still 15 points left for this evening although evenings are usually my worse for snacking. Maybe just go to bed.
Heavier than I thought  so even more to lose but sure I can only do my best.0
