Hi everyone
Here's a wee line from the diet book I'm currently reading, going to try to remember this when I need to give myself kick in the behind in order to stay on my diet!
"there is only one life ... this is not a dress rehearsal for the slim life you ought to be living..."
I found it rather profound, but then I'm easily impressed
I guess it's patently obvious, but it really didn't sink home with me till someone spelt it out in print! Makes me rather sad too though, as I have wasted so many years being overweight ...... I have allowed my lack of confidence arising from being overweight to affect my life choices in so many ways!
I'm trying to hold that thought to carry me through this chilly winter weather without breaking my diet! :rotfl:
Hope you all have a good week.

Hi everyone, I have actually been sticking to my WW points quite well - minor blip yesterday for Mother's Day but very contained. I am reading the book recommended by Janren -"Only Fat People Skip Breakfast" and it is ringing lot of bells - it is also really entertaining and is giving me a few laughs. One particular page drew my attention and described my attitude to food very well - it said " You probably use food for every occasion - as a celebration when you are happy, as a calming agent when you are stressed, as medication when you feel down, and as companionship when you feel bored or lonely" - all true for me. Another useful point is that we choose to be overweight because we are the only people who put food in our mouths - it's true but I need to know why I choose to do that to myself when I want to be slim - that's probably covered later in the book - will keep you informed. I haven't been to WW because of work commitments but know I have lost weight so am happy with that - I do think checking in on this board is really helping me and keeping me motivated so thanks very much everyone and I hope it's working for all of you as well. Good luck.0

Just checking in for this weeks weigh in only 1lb loss but suppose better than nothing.
I would love to loose 2.5 lbs next week which would be my first stone off in 4 weeks.
Fingers crossed.I would like to be able to admire a man’s opinions as I would his dog - without being expected to take it home with me."

Morning all. I've lost a fraction of a lb. Better than nothing and expected since life has got in the way. Still managing to do a bit more exercise though, so that's positive I suppose - looking forward to the day this exercise business becomes a habit rather than a chore though!
Congrats to all those losing weight. Any tips for one who has fallen off the wagon? Cheers.0 -
Well done IrishMummyof2 - you are going in the right direction and the weight loss will slow down - having 1 stone off in a month would be brilliant - my advice is to drink at least two litres of water every day - maybe you are doing that already but I know it works well for me and other girls I have talked to at WW.
Wee Bargain Hunter, when I fall off the wagon, it helps me if I can look at it just as one bad day, not an excuse to binge for the rest of the week and start again the following Monday. It's easy to say that but not so easy to get into that frame of mind. I find doing exercise helps to motivate me to eat better too, and I really recommend the book Janren recommended to me a couple of pages ago on this thread - it has really had an impact on the way I think about weight-loss and I'm only half-way through.0 -
Hi guys, not hiding out fromyou this time, just things are really busy at the minute and not going to get much better for the next week or more. I'm not really having time to focus on eating properly although I am not using it as an excuse to eat badly either so I'm figuring I'm hopefully maintaining at the minute. Stress tends to be a trigger for comfort eating for me so I'm figuring this is reasonably good for now. The one thing bugging me is that I'm not managing to get to the gym. I might make it tomorrow depending on how things are at work, but I'm not depending on it. Oh well.
Wee bargain hunter I wish I had an answer. But a fraction of a pound off is still way better than on....same goes for you irishmummy...1lb is better than no lossKeep at it.

Hi belfastgirl23 - I'm a comfort eater too!
Our lives are always going to have disappointments, stress, not feeling 100%, too busy etc, my present flab problem is caused by the fact that I'm always allowing myself to overeat in these circumstances ... plus I am very self-critical which means I beat myself up about really minor stuff way too much, resulting in further comfort eating!
I am trying to keep telling myself that no matter what problems (real or perceived) on my plate, in the long run comfort eating makes my mood worse - makes me feel disgusted with myself shortly after the pleasure of eating the junk has dissipated, having blown my diet to smithereens (I have an 'all or nothing' mentality so I get really annoyed with myself when I fall off the wagon), not to mention when I jump on the scales the week afterwards ...
So I think you are doing really well eating normally to maintain your weight in the circumstances!!
Irishmummyof2 and Wee Bargain Hunter well done both of you on your weight losses :T0 -
Hi everyone, hope you're all keeping well. Thanks for your support last week. Forgot to weigh myself this morning but think I have either stayed the same or lost a tiny amount. Think this is going to take me a long long time! Only to be expected since I don't really "do" diets - can't stand feeling hungry. It also takes me ages to change my habits. Going the right direction though. I'd forgotten about the water thing so have been trying to concentrate on that - thanks for the reminder! Also despite all the stress at the moment, trying to take each day as it comes and starting fresh each morning.
Trying to eat more bio yoghurt - anyone else heard that calcium helps your metabolism? Good as a healthy snack between meals anyway. Going to make a huge pot of soup later this week as well so maybe I'll have some "proper" weight loss to report next week? I live in hope!0 -
How's everyone doing?
I seem to be coming down with some sort of flu/cold virus this evening _pale_, feel yuck. Still on me diet but just hope I don't need time off work at any stage with this, even when I stick to my diet when ill, I just dont have the same amount of energy/daily activity, so end up losing less weight.
Anyway, I read this at lunchtime today, and it put my weight loss efforts in context: http://hotlist.uk.msn.com/hotlist/world's-heaviest-man-manuel-uribe-sheds-40-stones.aspx
Totally admire the dude, what a shift of mindset he must have gone through to achieve such staggering weight loss!
