Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 8th February.. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning. Woke up real early today, could not sleep anymore and so got up.
Work today and then 4 days off, so a nice long weekend to look forward too.
Nothing much planned other than a nice juicy steak for tea.
Hope you all have a good day
Euromillions jackpot is £92,000,000 today. Got to be worth a flutter has'nt it?

Morning n9eav , plus Aime and Snowy (who I can see are lurking as I start this).
May get a Euromillions ticket out here they are only 1€.:D
I had just copied the sticky to start the thread when you nipped in so saved me the job. Up a little earlier today, blaming the caffiene, as I was driving last night and was on diet coke:eek: . We usually walk to this one, but they are doing up the shortcut area and it is a dust bowl atm, and it is a little far the long way round. Good night, just a local bar/cafe/restaurant who put a turn on a Thursday(free), retired guy singing 60's/70's but good voice, and boy can he play the guitar. Everyone joins in the words of the ones we all know. It's rather multi cultural, with English (majority), German, Spanish and even a French couple at the side of us last night, all singing along. Even the Spanish waitresses seem to know the words now. Some get up and dance between the tables if there is space, others dance, clap, wave their arms around sat down, ages 14-90 in there no one minds, its very good. The females in the restaurant end up being the backing to Elvis's Suspicious Minds, "whoo,oo,oo" IYKWIM.:rotfl: :rotfl:
Pedicure booked for 10a.m. No other plans so far, think DH is going to put a layer of stain on the wood (pretend joist ends) under the eaves. Some ironing to fit in later. Started a picture yesterday, trying to learn how to use Acrylic paints, atm still think I prefer water colour, but I must persevere. Enough waffling.
Enjoy your break Sola.
Happy Birthday LittleTinker - Hope the painkilers kick in soon.
Hope everything goes OK for you Fizzel.
lillmisskitkat - I agree with Aussie, make life uncomfortable for the tenant, and as for Dad, be strong, it is your house order him out if he tries to give you grief and tries to take over how you bring up your kids, and if he claims he will take the kids, just laugh and tell him to try. You may not feel it but don't show its getting to you, bullies only gain if they see they can intimidate.
stefejp - well done to dd on 100% Maths result. I've always loved maths too, but hated games, the punishment at school for forgetting your games kit was a double maths detention instead of the sports lesoon, guess who hid her kit at the bottom of her satchel when it was cold outside!
Snowy - The logic behind the assumption on the printer, it the techies time is more expensive than a new printer! I think there are a surplus of IT people about, many trained up for Y2K, which didn't turn out to be as big as it was thought to be, and loads of kids leave school loving computers so want to train for a career in it. Very few are lucky enough to fall on the right job with a good salary. The guys from my old firm are finding it hard to match their salary when having to look for new jobs.
(((((hugs))))) to all, and Hi to you all too.
Take care

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Good morning N9eav, and good morning to all who follow.
My plans for today include going to the mechanic for him to fix the horn of my car - it just makes a pathetic squeak rather than a proper loud beep. He can fix the radio too, that has been out of order since the time I had to have a jump start several moons ago.
Yesterday I phoned a local computer repair workshop to see if they could fix my printer - think there is a paperclip or something stuck in the paper feed bit. I was amazed by the reply I got - I was advised not to bother fixing it, but just go and buy a new one. He informed me that I could buy a replacement printer/scanner/fax combination for "less than £50" so I should do that. There's a long, long way to go in the whole reduce, reuse, recycle ethos!!! I'm going to have a flutter on the EuroMillions - even if I were to win the jackpot I still wouldn't bin my printer!
Computer repair workshops are about effective as employment agencies. I've been in contact with a number of them this week and while they are usually polite they just brush me off rather than be actually interested in what I've got to offer. There have been no leads at all in finding a replacement job through agencies. It's rather disheartening.
Have a fab Friday everyone.

Morning all,
It`s a nice mild morning today.
It felt almost warm when i was out in the park with the hounds earlier, there were one or two others out too so surely thats a sign of nicer weather, i wonder what the poor doggies do all winter though.
Tea for tonight is enchiladas and jacket potatoes and when i get home later i look forward to the joys of emptying the wm & dw
Best go and do some work, have a lovely Friday everyone!
Happy Birthday LittleTinker

Morning all.
LITTLE TINKER - Hello and Happy Birthday to you! Hope the painkillers kick in soon.
FIZZEL - (((Hugs))) to you. Good Luck for today and hope the toothache doesn't get worse.
SNOWY - It's what they call 'built-in obsolescence' - a great world wide con by manufacturers to make sure you keep buying new consumer goods. They make a lot of things almost impossible to repair so they think you have no choice but to buy new again. My vacuum cleaner's lead had a break in it; it was the second one so my DH decided to replace the whole flex but he had the devil of a job getting the thing apart. Sheer determination and a few bleep words got him there, though! If the big boys of business really believed in 'global warming' and 'climate change' they would make sure their products are easily repairable, wouldn't they?
Anyway, rant over!
PENPIN - thanks again for your kind pm. I hope you have a good day today.
SOAL - have a restful relaxing time. Tell us all about it - it's something I would like to do and I'll suggest it to my sister who is having a very stressful time at the moment.
Well, DH has just left. Plan today is to change sheets and clean right through, do my food shopping, visit the gym, come home and have lunch, do a bit of work, do the wages for DH's sub-contractors, teach DGD French knitting when she visits after school and catch up with my knitting this evening. We've had four nights where we haven't really sat down and relaxed so I'm going to, tonight.
DS2 came round last night - he has made a lovely brass plaque with my late MIL's details on it (she died last October, if you remember). We are sending it to FIL in Cyprus to put on a temporary wooden cross that marks her grave. She can't have a proper headstone yet because they have to wait a year for the ground to settle, apparently, and FIL said he wanted something to show that she is buried there. DS2 has done a lovely job; beautiful black lettering on highly-polished brass. It'll be something FIL can keep once the permanent headstone is in place.
Well, I suppose I had better go and have my shower then start the chores so I will see you all later.

Hope all is ok haven't read the end of the thread from yesterday. Have woken up finally feeling I have recovered from my nights. Have stripped our bed and will remake ours in a minute. Will do DS's when he gets up.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE TINKER
RIZZLE hugs to you.
SOLA enjoy your retreat. I once spent a week in a bhuddist monastery and didn't want to come back.
Plan to get down to the allotment today. Also do some studying and I need to go to the farm shop. DW is on, have one load of washing on and one ready to hang out. OH off to work in a minute. Dinner is a takeaway and a bottle of wine with OH when DS is in bed. We just don't seem to see anything at all of each other.
Have a good day all
