My ex worked for a "friend" who ended up not paying wages for nearly a year and he took out a secured loan to "aid" his business, he was going to make him a partner - course nothing written down and strangely enough his ex "friend" has a huge house with a business and my ex has a new job.
Have to point out he was not with me at the time I would have whipped his **** but I did suffer seeing as he could not pay anything towards his children at the time.
I guess life is a learning curve - some people need to experience more to learn though!0 -
I agree!!! Thanks.DMP Support Thread Member 142

Hi Sue
If you take it step by step, you will remain in control, the worse thing to do is try and rush everything in an attempt to getting it sorted.
Yes, it's time consuming, and stressful, but if you do everything at your own pace although within an acceptable time scale, you will find you are able to manage it with a clear head.
We've all been there, don't feel you're alone.
One thing I would suggest, creat your own online folder (Within My Documents on your computer)
Within that folder, add your own spreedsheet, in that spreedsheet record everything you do, date / times / phone calls / letters/ etc. etc, that way, it will be easier to refer to when you need it, and help keep all your correspondence under control.
Any letters I receive from creditors, I scan them and save them within my folder prior to sending them off to Pay plan, that way, I don't have loads of correspondence all over the place.
Scanning and putting them into the folder also helps as I don't have the letters staring at me all the time.
If you need any advice on how to do the above just ask away.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -
Hello Sue. I typed a message for you last night. Unfortunately, I didn't realise I wasn't signed in, so lost it!
Basically, I would reiterate what has already been said to you.
We are still into early days with our DMP and two creditors in particular are being very awkward. We also have to deal with lots of phone calls and letters but we have found that if we take the telephone calls, rather than ignore them, they do settle down for a few days.
I would also suggest that you try not to worry about the "what ifs" ... I was a nightmare regarding this, convinced we would be made bankrupt or have CCJs against us. However, I have now realised it is pointless worrying about something that may not happen.
We deal with everything purely on a day to day basis now. This really is the way to get through it all.
Also, I would agree with 10past6 in that organising paperwork etc is crucial and does help mentally if you can have a particular place to keep it all with no clutter.
I have a folder on the laptop for my correspondence (copied to disc for back-up) and a box file for Payplan and creditors' correspondence etc.
It will get easier. Yes, it is stressful and unpleasant, but you will find as each day goes by you are able to cope better mentally with it all.
And this website is an absolute gem
Anyway, I hope this post works!*Official DMP Mutual Support Club Member No 147**Official DFW Nerd Club Member No 923*I have no idea what I'm talking about!0 -
Hello hello hello!!! :hello:
Just popping in to say that really. It's a sleepy Sunday afternoon of marking and music for me - but on the upside it's a spendfree zone (well, I must confess to buying a can of Diet Coke and a Milky Way Rolls thingie, but anything to get through the strain of picking up my red pen once again. Other brands are available!).
I've been glancing through the past few pages and it's great to hear how well you've all been getting on. Thanks for the lovely messages Dr J, YM, amani, teecee, rayday et al and a big hello to Kelly - great stuff about your progress, I'm so pleased for you.
I decided to pop on to find some courage and inspiration to look at my bank account online. I've been living a dangerous life recently by not checking it - bad news. It's been okay so far, but need to be brave. Also going to put a few things up for sale on Amazon to get the pennies rolling in. Got a friend visiting for the Easter long weekend and we've decided to keep each other to a budget of £30 spending money
What have you guys got planned for the long weekend? Any MSE ideas?
Take care you guys!

Hi Smile!
We are ebaying but thats for hubbys birthday its a 30th so special and in April so we have to calm spending down this Easter.
I am doing an egg hunt for little one thats free home entertainment, making a chocolate cake for my sister that saves buying 3 eggs for her children!
To survive the school holidays we are doing skip runs to empty the garage (still wrapping paper in there from Xmas!!) and dog walks in local woods etc, I would like to go out Bank holiday monday but have a feeling weather won't co-operate to probably a pizza and pop singstar night for the children and a wine and singstar boozy session later on for us!
But its not an MSE Easter for us, Friday we have a window survey for the whole house being double glazed. It will be so nice to have windows that are not held in by the will of god!
Good luck with the marking - I would need more than cake to get me through that!0 -
Hey rayday,
Sounds like you've planned a fab Easter! The kids will love the egg huntThink I might borrow your idea of a boozie night and walks in the park. Exciting about your husband's birthday. Hope it's a good one

Hello folks. It's been a good Sunday so far, very peaceful (although I have been working - the downside to being self-employed!)
Smilealot, we also have a budget for doing something over Easter - it's £17.00! We hope to go out on Easter Monday, for the day walking in the Malvern Hills with our Cocker Spaniel and this £17 will pay for the petrol there and back and a cup of coffee. But as rayday has stated, chances are the weather will be pants! If it is, we have enough for a trip to the cinema, yay!
We managed to gain the £17 on an overpayment of a bill, so it's been sitting in the bank for 6 weeks!
Thankfully, the remainder of money needed for Easter was made when we had a huge clear out on Ebay. Most of the cash we made was used to service OH's car, but luckily we had some left over that we could use to buy Easter food and eggs.
I'm becoming a whizz at making money go a long way. However, OH thinks I'm becoming slightly miserly because I won't let us spend a penny unless I feel it's justified. This is causing a few problems between us and I don't know how to get through to OH the importance of taking care of the pennies.
Our eldest son is a Vegan so I will be making some Vegan goodies for him and a huge, dairy filled chocolate cake for us!
All in all, I'm looking forward to Easter. And, hopefully it will be quiet for a few days on the creditor front too
rayday, good luck with the windows.*Official DMP Mutual Support Club Member No 147**Official DFW Nerd Club Member No 923*I have no idea what I'm talking about!0
