This is quite scary. At the moment we've drafted all the letters and enclosed her SOA that's we've downloaded from the National debtline. She's in the process of opening a new account and we've decided that she'll post the letters to the creditors around the 28th of March, by that time she would have the new bank account, let work know about paying her wage into the new bank and transfer the direct debts that MUST be paid.

She's really down about all this and I worry that the constant hassle from creditors will push her over the edge. I'm not sure if GE have her works number, would they be allowed to contact her at work? I've just realised that the loan and credit card are with Asda which GE have something to do with. Does that make a difference?

We were seven credit card which was GE the letters all poured in from GE and it was not too bad to deal with made a lot of noise at first and yet one of the first to accept.

Girlracer - one more thought if you are dealing with your own DMP (or sisters!) make sure you keep your filing up to date, and also I keep spreadsheets of payments I have sent and when they cash cheques or standing orders leave banks etc.

I had changed my phone number so all my correspondance was via letter and this was good, would be good in your position if possible that way your sister can hand over letters rather than putting up with calls.

If she does get calls at work tell her to politely say its a sackable offence taking phone calls at work please remove my number and then back it up in letter when she sees you.

Thanks RayDay2 I've been off work this morning so I've taken her into town and she's opened a new basic bank account. She now contact her wages department and hopefully get March's wages paid straight into the new account.

I've also told her to phone PayPlan (I don't think my nerves can cope with dealing with all this for her) and she's waiting for them to call her back now.

It's not desperately urgent as everything has been paid for this month but I know she's not going to be able to meet the payments next month so we need to get something in place for 1st April. Do PayPlan take long to sort all these things out? Anyone know?

right here we go for the first bit of advice im after so please bear with me and i apologise in advance if it comes out as waffle!!

ive been with the CCCS now for a couple of year and am due a review next month. Having read a lot of the previous posts on here I'm wondering if i could now go it alone as i have a few smaller debts which i think i could pay off in the next few months and put that money to the bigger ones.

has anyone done this and if so how did you go about it? can i just stop paying CCCS and send the payments directly to the debters myself of do i have to let them know im doing it this way? or wold sticking with the CCCS be my best option?

i really feel like i want to get in control here and would be grateful of anyones comments

Sorry I can't personally help with the transition from CCCS to yourself but when you are on your own then I do know a bit about managing your own DMP.

A few people in here have done what you want to so I guess hang tight to see what others say - sorry!

I know what you mean, my mum wanted me to do her DMP for her but it was such a responsiblity and she was only visiting me once a month so ages had passed between her recieving the letters and me dealing with them. And to be quite honest because she was accepting no responsibility for her own problem she was very careless, like she would pay them on the 10th one month and then maybe 17th the next month and I was just so worried as I knew if it went wrong I would be to blame!

But sorry can't help with payplan - but tons in here will know the answer to that!

In the meantime to get extra time if you want to send the template letters for a token payment you can always do that - thinking if it takes a few weeks to set up payplan. Give her some surplus to pad out her current account too. Thinking when the next payment is due rather than right now! If that makes sense.

Sure someone else has done this really recently but I am terrible with names - sorry! But she kind of got the impression so long as they were paid they didn't care where the money came from. But ovbviously that was from their own experience.
