    Don't worry mumzy
A very very nice person from CCCS goes through your budget with you on the phone. They give you ideas as to how you can maximise your budget. THey tell you how much your creditors would accept as an allowable amount. For instance, me and DH are allowed £230 for housekeeping and £20 for the 3 cats. We are allowed money for our private dentist scheme and other health costs.
We have to run 2 cars as we work shifts and we are allowed £175 per month just for petrol.
When you have been living on pennies trying to pay your bills, its like somebody giving you loads of money!
We are allowed £90 per month towards the oil bill and £35 for electric. It actually costs a bit more than that but we don't spend anywhere near £230 a month on housekeeping for 2 of us so we can borrow from that allowance.

  • Hello everyone,

    Any advice appreciated. In short situation is as follows;
DMP started in October 2006, Had a 'Together' Mortgage with Northern Rock. 21K unsecured. Unsecured debt was included in DMP. Fixed rate ended last year, switched secured mortgage to another lender, NR still being paid via DMP on the unsecured, but now they are threatening legal prceedings on the loan!

I have told them politley that the DMP continues and payments will increase/decrease on the annual review in line with our circumstances, but they have said in 7 days they will commence proceedings.

Anybody else been in this position? What happened? Do i need to worry?

    Thanks
    Becky!

Mumzyof 2, i thought the same regarding the clothes and food budget when i first went on a dmp. (over 2 years ago) As a family of 6 they allow me way more than i need, same with clothes, haircuts and work meals!! We have pack ups for dh work meals, and i only buy clothes when we are down to hole in the knee type state!!! But if it is allowed add it in, it gives me so much more money to sort other things out such as xmas,b/days and emergencys. And your creditors are still happy.
I know alot of you ask about which creditors people have and how they were about agreeing to dmp well mine are/were...
    1-Egg-Fantastic from day 1.
2-Adams/Creation finacial-Again agreed straight away.(Charges claimed £65 back from these)
    3-Natwest credit card(Charges claimed back £180)
    4-Natwest overdraft(£1150 charges claimed back)
5-Natwest Loan- Loan and overdraft were merged together and the whole amont of interet from loan added at the begining of agreeing the dmp payments, credit card was fine agreed straight away.
6-Providian now cabot- Agreed straight away
    7-Index/littlewoods-Agreed straight away
    8-Argos store card-Agree straight away
    9-Studio-Agreed straight away

All charges were clamed back after starting dmp and it hasnt effected anything, i have just completed my 2 yearly review and all creditors are still happy with payments.
Hope this helps put someones mind at rest

Thank you so much for this. I haven't heard a beep from NatWest and was wondering should I be grateful or worried as they are my main creditor (70%). It does help to hear that they have been ok to deal with.

Anyone had any dealings with Abbey credit card and Loan, Welcome, Black Horse and GE Loan and Credit card?

These are the creditors I'm currently dealing with?

    Hi Girl Racer,

The only one of those I've dealt with were GE. They were our worst creditor, phoning constantly, trying to get OH half to give them my mobile or work number. That wasn't going to happen...we're only in debt, not completely stupid!!

I had used my GE card 3 days before we started our DMP. I know it was naughty, but I had no other way of getting petrol to get to work but they wouldn't even consider a DMP until there was no card activity for 3 months. When they phoned I just kept quoting my Payplan ID at them and as individuals they were all pleasant and apologetic. One man said he would stop calls for 3 weeks to give us time to sort this out, once I started getting calls again I asked each caller to barr calls for a time and all did so, sometimes just a week but it helped.

After 4 months and £1500 of interest and charges they eventually accepted the DMP.

In some ways you probably didn't want to know all this, but be reassured that even if they do give you a rough time they do accept eventually.

    Good Luck,
    Sam,
    x.
