These people are disgusting hounding people asking them to get into more debt, there should be someone we could complain to if they use bullying tactics.

Hope your mum doesnt get too upset
Just keep on telling them that their paying what they can afford arranged with the cccs
ok maybe they can get a charge but surely not force them to sell the house
We can all protest if theybl****y do x

  • Does anyone know how does Abbey usually react to new DMPs? I'm a bit worried as they are my main creditor, also RBS seems to be a bit funny from what I have read.

I don't have any dealings with Abbey so no idea there. But have a Mint card - RBS - and they ignored all my letters and only wrote to me with a default after about 3 or 4 months. After the default they then stopped interest and charges. This seems to be their normal routine from what I've seen here - so just hold out for a few months before they stop interest. Have heard nothing from them since - they've not passed to a debt collection agency or anything.

Think HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland) who are different form RBS, seem to be much more aggressive after a year on the DMP.

Halifax have started to charge us interest again on our credit card of around £290
Went into our branch the other day they said not to worry (easy for them to say:rolleyes: ) and that once it had been passed on to a debt collection agency the interest would stop again and any charges taken off ! So suppose ill just have to wait and see

No other problems to report so far with the others

  • I've just had a lovely letter from M & S Money (have CC) putting my APR up to 23 % (or something in that region) from 1st April. I wonder whether they will actually apply that rate when I'm on DMP.

I had similar - each of my credit cards (had about 4 of them including store cards :o) went up to nearly 25%. That's what finally broke me and made me decide on the DMP. Couldn't do any more to sort it by myself :o

Just so you know, one immediately reduce interest down to 6% and everyone else has now stopped all charges and interest. It did take a few months though so initially it looks like it's all going up but once they start getting your actual payments from the DMP they tend to give in and stop interest and charges ;)

    Hi,

As soon as I sent a letter to M&S saying that I am seeking advice with my financial situation I got that letter too. Too bad to them I have a 3.9% balance transfer for life so the interest increase won't affect me even if they won't stop charging interest. Let's hope that they don't decide to take that original interest offer away due me not being able to keep up with the payments.

Perhaps they just don't believe at the beginning that we actually intend to pay our debt off, who knows.
I've just opened a new bank account (had to) and it comes with an "automatic" overdraft of £1K and I did not even ask for it!!! Even though I'm in huge debt already, someone else will always try to throw some more credit at me. I'll have to cancel that overdraft, I don't trust myself anymore

Ginger - when I tried to open another account I had to specifically ask for an account with no overdraft but that had a cheque book/debit card. They looked me like I was mental and said "why would you want an account without an overdraft???". I gave up and applied online where it actually asked how much overdraft you wanted - I put £0 ;)

I haven't even sent them anything yet, will do it in March with a token payment. It's due to my past behaviour - defaulting on the payments. Oh, I've been stupid for a long, long time...:p
