Big welcome!
• Hello all,

Feeling a bit down on myself at the moment. This has been my first month on a DMP, and I've had a c**p month. Nothing wrong with the DMP, that's going really well - it's me. It took me two weeks to run out of money. I've always been rubbish with money, and this month it was even worse. I just don't know how to budget, I mean, yes, it's all down on paper and it looks great. £120 a week after all the bills have been paid, so what's wrong with me? Any advice on how to stick to the budget would be gratefully received.

Don't beat yourself up too much about it. I've been on my DMP since May and this month has been really hard - no idea why. Elec, Gas (prepay) and petrol seem to have been eaten this month at record speed. Not even had the heating on much more than 3 hours a day. Let alone food

I think the cold weather, extra lights on etc, grey weather has just seemed to eat everything up :o

Next month I am planning to only pay cash for food and break everything I can down to a weekly budget so that at least we should have the odd day or so of tight times rather than a whole week or so at the end of the month - that's the plan anyway

So I plan to allocate a set day of the week to get prepay gas and elec topped up - and top it up with my budgeted amount even if there seems to be money left on it. Hopefully if there is any left I will build up a little "reserve" for car MOT month ;)

Set day for petrol each week - this will be a bit more tricky I think...
Set day for food shop - but as I shop in 3 places and can't get to all of them in one lunch hour it may have to be set day for each shop.

My plan is Friday the money starts for gas elec, food etc as then we should have nice food at the weekends when the kids are here.

Then again... have tried this before for food only and failed but we shall see ;)

Hi Compulsivespender79

I am a newbie on these forums but I have been following few challenges:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=640131

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=167192

Those two threads have loads of people with helpful hints on budgeting. And when it is a public challenge it always helps

Other thread that has lots of tips on upping income here:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=645833

ENJOY! But be warned it is addictive!

• Hi and good morning :hello:

Still plugging away with the DMP and although I have not heard anything yet I must be due my yearly review. Looks nice on paper but ,like others, I never seem to have much money left at the end of the month  . Nice to hear from Number 1 (95kelly). Nice to know the DMP is going OK as the last time I heard from you an IVA was foremost in your mind. ILGD :hello: how are you.

Hope everyone else is OK and keep strong.

• Morning All!!:D

Hope everyone is well and not too stressed.

CS - I take out my living money (anything left after bills and DD's) on payday.
I divide it up into pots marked petrol, food, DD stuff and treats for her, I do not take my debit card out of the house when i go out, I now deal in cash only.
Admittedly this took a bit of getting used to but now I know that when the money is gone its gone!
So if I overspend on food, the car doesn't get petrol and I have to walk etc etc. It has really helped me to always be concious of what I am spending, and most months I even have money left. Thats when the chinese takeaways become too tempting. But at least I know its money I have budgeted for somewhere!

KELLY - How are you? Great news about the DMP :T :T :T
Its fantastic to hear from you and I'm soooo pleased that everything is going well,I can't believe that the thread is one year old on the 27th Feb, the time has flown hasn't it!!!
Things are good for me too and I'm now down below £23,000 owing and can see a brighter light at the end of the very long tunnel.
Take really good care of you and yours and make sure you pop back to say hi now and then!!
