The cousin of a girl I work with is currently waiting to see if the bone cancer he was treated for 2 yrs go has returned......he's 12......I'm currently in remission from breast cancer...diagnosed in jan. 04 [ part of the reason for debts ]...my aunt has secondary cancer in her bones 15yrs after originally being diagnosed with breast cancer........I realise this is bit off subject of DMP....but for a while I think I lost myself with all this stress of debts.....but now am back to thinking......I'm doing the best I can, let the creditors who are still being awkward carry on......fighting cancer is bigger and more important.
Sorry if post is a bit '' heavy' just needed to speak what I am thinking.0 -

Right behind you.
It's only money and the banks have plenty of it already. They will have to accept what you can offer and whistle for the rest!0 -
Absolutely! It's only money. They can't have what you don't have. Concentrate on dealing with all the other more important things going on in your life. If you're on a DMP then you are doing you best to deal with the debts - if creditors don't accept then they will just have to wait for the money.
Andy - rang and spoke to my Dad to find where he takes cars for MOT's and he's rung and booked it in for next week under his name with a note that I'm bringing it in - bonus- now it'll be a case of fingers crossed there's not much wrong with it!!!

As rayday2 mentioned earlier, take the car for its MOT to a council depot that services & MOTs its own council vehicles if there's one near you.
It's not an easier test & it will fail if there are faults found, but they won't be "looking for faults" because they do not carry out any repairs themselves.
I've a 10 year old Ford Escort & I've done this for 2 out of the last 3 years. On both occasions, there were minor faults (headlamp alignment twice) & they adjusted it there & then, didn't charge a penny & on both occasions the car passed its MOT.
One word of warning though, if it does fail, there are no cheap re-test fees. You will have to pay the full amount 2nd time around.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Thanks for the advice.
The Council MOT centre for my area listed in Martin's article DOES also do vehicle repairs - so I am extremely confused by the whole comments about that. Have found a company with several branches in the area though that claim they are independent, carry out no repairs at all and only do MOT's. Retest is free within 10 days and you don't have to pay until your car passes
In any case, this time round I'll go to the ones that my dad knows are honest with him and if it fails, it'll deserve to have failed - which I'm fine with.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Sounds ok.
I too, am now confused about the repairs thing. I know the one I go to in Cardiff confirmed that they didn't do private repairs.
Anyhow, good luck. It feels worse than going to the Dentist watching your pride & joy being messed around with!Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)
