I think it is excellent idea of having DMP as sub board like BR. It would only be fair. I am sure there would be lots of support for it from all of us support group members and also it would be easier to find for those that are now starting new threads as they can't find us. IYKWIM

I think it's a good idea - but then I assume there ought to be one dedicated to IVA's too?

There was quite a heated debate over whether the BR board should be separated into a sub-board of DFW, so wouldn't be surprised if the same kind of arguments arose over the suggestion (although I think it is a good idea to separate out those doing DMP's and IVA's so that others can easily find the information they need :o)

so it looks like I have to take a day off work to get that sorted too (and have no idea whether you are meant to hang around or leave your car and come back - or anything, so feel really stupid and OH is just ignoring any of my worries about it all).

Hi Newlywed, when I take my car in I always make sure that the carage has a courtesy car available for me. I wouldn't be able to get back from carage never mind to the school and nursery run otherwise. You might want to check if this service (normally no extra charge) is available.

  • This all makes me feel very lucky.

I can look in the pantry and see nothing to eat. OH can go into the same pantry 5 minutes later and produce a large meal for 4.

We've been living on next to nothing for 3 weks and tomorrow is payday so things will ease.

Newlywed, I'm worried that the situation with your finances is causing so much friction. I'm not sure what your OH expects and he sounds really unreasonable. If you are not even able to talk to him, things can't improve. Don't let the finances split you up. Seek counseling if you can.

MOT. You will need to book the car in somewhere. The statutory fee is quite high but some places do it for less so you should ring round. Also see what their policy is regarding re-tests if it fails. The law sets a price for re-tests within a week of the initial test but again some garages offer free re-tests.

Sorry to say this next bit but.... it's the truth. If you let on that you have no idea what you're doing with regards to vehicle maintenance, it makes you an easy target for an unscrupulous garage to fleece you. Put on an act or take a 'bloke' with you who looks like he knows what he's doing.

    Good luck.

I never belive anyone has to just take things. Especially if they were not charging interest with Bains & Ernst - do you know for sure if they were or not?

Anyway you can write formal complaints and see how it goes but maybe you want to get the transfer to CCCS under your belt too.

I have never dealt with Halifax but the name crops up a hell of a lot!

Thanks for the note. CCCS finalising paperwork as we speak but have said it's ok for credit card to charge intrest which i'm not happy about!!!

Anyone have a template letter to complain/request intrest charges are stopped ??

    Cheers

    Best wishes to all!!

Thanks for the advice - I knew I had to book it in and knew that re-tests tend to depend on lots of stuff - yeah I know they could fleece me, that's why I'm worried - but I'm going to check with my Dad where he takes his - hopefully they will be less likely to fleece someone they know's daughter ;) Plus I can talk some of it (picked up bits from my Dad) - just don't have a clue how to do any of it :rotfl:

As for a courtesy car - didn't know they did that for MOT tests - well I'd be too worried about driving and scratching that I think

Anyone know where I get a new number plate done ??? ;)

Just found out pay was done early - might clear tomorrow or Monday instead of Weds :D:D - so looks like veggies are back on the menu :T

And I can get my car tax on Monday and MOT thurs/fri hopefully so then even if it fails the MOT at least I don't get a fine for no tax ;)

Another thing - try and check the basics for yourself. If there's a bulb gone, they'll probably replace it and charge you 6 quid (for a bulb that costs pennies!). Check that the winscreen washer has water in it too.

Courtesy car will have to be paid for somehow... probably on an mot fee which is not too well discounted. If you have a booked appointment, just turn up at the time and wait for it to be done if you have the time.

Number plate. Again, shop around. Halfords is a cert though. You will need documentation with you. Vehicle log book to prove that you own the car, proof of your ID and address too. It's not the shop being fussy. It's the law.

Dads are good things, mine was in the trade for years and then when he retired worked as a delivery driver for the local spares supplier delivering to all the garages in the town. Dropping his name usually gets me a discount. "Oh, you're Bills son are you? He's a nice old bloke... that total looks a bit high... hang on a minute". Last MOT was 17 quid!

Can I have a non DMP moan!

You have to picture me in a child like strop whinning "its not fair!"

I went to a college open day last week for a Teaching Assistant Course was told they are only doing a Level 3 this year but when I told them I was doing a Level 2 in Youth work which covered, Child Protection etc etc she said the woman who does Teaching Assistant Courses probably would want me to do Level 3 anyway. Couldn't tell me anymore as the woman likes to speak to students herself but was not at opening evening.

I approach my head master who said I could volunteer from September as a placement as for Level 3 you need to work in a school.

Today I get a phone call from the Teaching Assistant course leader who says I can't do the Level 3 and she will put me onto that woman who does an "Introduction to childcare course" at level 2 that I should do. I point out I am studying Level 2 in Youth work she says that would only help if I want to work with secondary education - fair enough - I tell her that I want to do Primary as I always wanted to be a primary teacher. She then asks my qualifications - 9 GCSE at between level A and C (from the days when they were hard :P) anyway she then says they are good enough to do a degree to become a teacher. So good enough to do a degree but not to do a TA course (by now I am getting confused)

Then she recommends I apply for a TA job now because if I get one then I can do the course in September - why would I want to qualify if I can get a job without - and why if I have a placement, enough GCSE to do a degree and a semi relevant Level 2 qualification can't I do a level 3!

    Strop!

Well its not strop I put the phone down in tears!
