Hi Dr J, I thought they weren't allowed to hassle/threaten us like that. If they give me the same treatment they still won't get any more than anyone else as there's nothing extra to give! I am awaiting my creditors responses from the first offer (of many) with baited breath but, since finding these lovely peeps on this thread I am strong! They will have to just...................0

nomoneynomoney do you mind sharing what sort of percentage you managed to settle with F&F offers? I have read so many ideas about what to offer.
One of our creditors said they would offer a 50% settlement while we were waiting for CCCS to make their initial payments 2 years ago but we were not in a position to offer anything at all then.
When we sold the house, we wrote to the creditor and asked them if we could look at the 50% offer again and they would have none of it. Said the best they could do was 22% off so we gave up.0 -
Thanks for responses Amani, rayday and Bigdi. Just edited my post to 1st Credit not 1st Direct by the way.
Well the positive thing is we have cleared the debt although it is now on wife's Barclaycard. Payplan said that 1st credit were one of the most agressive ones. At least we are shot of them. Think I will seriously consider trying to pay more per mth if asked in order to stop banks passing on to DCA's. Hopefully it won't come to that as it could get tricky. Will talk to Payplan on Mon for more advice.
Anyone any idea how quickly you can get taken to court if a DCA or bank decide to head in that direction? I ask because we might need to sell the house or find some cash but would need time to do either.0 -
As you have probably guessed I am a newbie so can someone tell me, if you have defaulted, does that automatically mean that you get sent to a DCA? Amex did that within a month and that went to some well-behaved people. Just hope there are more of them around. Anyway, they can't get blood out of a stone. Just gonna stick to my guns and do what PP suggest..........Anyone else got some advice?0

Its a bit tricky for me to comment as most of my debts are now with DCA and even the dreaded Capquest have been pretty good. I have to admit I have never dealt with 1st Credit.
From sort of observational rather than fact it seems its mostly banks that take you to court not the DCA. So long as you make regular payments DCA seem to be more patient but like I said its just from quiet observations.
Looks like you hit unlucky - sadly with 1st Credit.0 -

There are no set rules some companies will default then sell the debt on as you experienced. Some well default and then let there "in house" team deal with it, and some never default and yet pass the debt on.
So really sorry, there dosen't seem any set rules or patterns its a bit of pot luck.0 -
Bigdi only the 2 smallest debts we had were passed on. These have now been paid off and we didn't have any problems with them apart from if the CCCS payment was late when the payment date fell on a Bank Holiday. Then we got snotty letters but just filed them in the nearest bin.
DH had a strange letter from Goldfish last month to say he is £199 in arrears. I emailed CCCS and they sent out a new statement to them (well, its the same one they got last March) and we heard no more. I wrote to Goldfish and said please communicate with CCCS as they are handling the DMP.
I checked on MSE and other people have had the same letters.
I think Goldfish's computers must have indigestion.0 -

I offerred every creditor 25% and a lot of them accepted. Egg accepted on every account regardless of who the DCA was.
I had one with Barclaycard who wanted 50% 2 years ago and still wanted 50% now. I paid those whose who accepted the lowest so that I could clear more debt.
I used national debtlines letters and sent a list of all my creditors, the amount I was offering to each creditor and my income and expenditure to each of them.
They are obliged to pass your offer to their client and it is up to the client to decide if they will accept or not. Having said that I don't think they do always pass the offer to the client so it may be worth checking that the client has had the offer passed to them for them to consider.0 -
Just popping my head back in here.
My DMP with CCCS is in motion now. The forms and statements have gone back to CCCS. And this morning posted the Notification of DMP to all my creditors and now I'm bricking it.
I know I'm doing the right thing and it will turn out ok, just really nervous about what the creditors are going to say. Will e a lot happier when it's settled down and my monthly payments are going to CCCS, but at the moment I'm cacking it0 -
Try not to worry, some may accept straight away, others may say no and write some weird and wonderful letters but most in the end do accept. Whatever responses you get if you are worried come in here and tell us who it is and what it is and I guarantee someone will have been there before.
I know what you mean though its better when you are just sending payments and know where you are, but today you are one step closer to that so stay positive!0
