Hi Everyone
My DMP is with CCCS and I've been on it for 4 -5 years.
I had thought of doing my own DMP but I worried that the creditors will start to pile on the interest again. Well I guess I don't have a choice now because at my last reveiw CCCS told me I could only stay on it for a temporary period. It really upset me especially when they posted the letter to me with their recommendations and highlighted the fact with a highlighter pen. Well after the initial upset it did make me think that I could deal with it myself. I do think they do a wonderful job and they made a great difference to me when I was at my lowest.0 -
Sometimes I wish we could save like crazy to pay off the smaller debts but CCCS says this gives those creditors an unfair advantage.
CCCS gave me the impresion that it is ok fo me to make additional payments to creditors, (not that i have the cash to dit). I too would like to try and save cash, just for some small luxuries, but unfortunately im not finding it very easy. i am determined though to reduce my expenditure as mch as possible.Starting Debt - £44,667.64 :mad:DAS Started Jun 09 - Debt Free May 2018 :T0 -

Is that what happens then? The CCS/Payplan tell you that it is only temporary and withdraw the facility?0 -

No I don't think so.
My situation was probably different than alot of people that they help. When I sold my house I paid off all my secured loans, car and my family. I still had some money left over and I think they thought that I should have cleared all my debts which I didn't. The constant stress of all the debt that I had had for so many years took it's toll and I just moved away. I was very close to the edge. I bought an old property that needed renovating - it was cheap but it gave me and the children a home.I knew I wouldn't get a mortgage and would probably struggle to get a rental property with such poor credit history. The end result being that we have somewhere to live but I still have unsecured debt . I did worry that I may have committed a crime doing this but I have looked into it and it isn't a crime.
I could have stayed in the house and CCCS would have supported me. I was disappointed in them BUT they helped when things were really bad so if they can't help me now well I'll do it alone.
Although they are a good support nobody really knows what it is like unless they are living it themselves and I know I am a much stronger person than I was 5 years ago.0 -
nomoneymoney everyone's situation is different and you did what you thought best at the time. Like you say, debt is not a crime and you are trying to manage.
Last year when we sold the house, the money was not enough to clear our debts and CCCS were alright with this. They sent out a pack about making settlement offers. We contacted HFC who offered a settlement at 70% of the outstanding debt but that would have meant the other creditors would have got less and we did not think they would be happy about that.
TBH, we were worried about flagging up that we had a lump sum so its just sitting, untouched, earning interest for us.
At the CCCS annual review due next month, we are hoping to increase payments but using some of the interest to make this possible. Even if we can increase payments by £5 per creditor it will be an improvement and reduce the length of the DMP.
Both DH and me will have reduced incomes this year because of ill health but we don't want to reduce our DMP payments.
I have looked at our CCCS budget and I cannot shave any more off what we are paying out.0 -
Thanks janey51
I managed to pay about 40k off with full and final settlements but the creditors who are left all wanted 85 -100% which I just couldn't afford. CCCs said it was ok to pay some creditors. I offered them all the same percentage - those who accepted I paid and those who didn't accept are still on the DMP0 -
Rayday2,
Just caught up with the thread and read your comment about Chelsea Bldg Soc. a while back with interest as we are looking at a possible advance with them. Was planning to ring to discuss on Mon. morning anyway as have the forms already.
Had an unpleasant ph. call threatening court action from Ist Credit who had my wife's acc. passed to them a week ago from Citibank. Owe 8000+. They refused our offer through Payplan so we caved in and paid them 6000 on a Barclaycard to get them off our backs. They accepted an offer over the ph. My wife will lose her job if there is a sniff of court action so she was very worried. Hopefully other creditors will not be so aggressive. Any thoughts on their actions and ours for that matter would be welcome.
Welcome to this thread to newcomers and hugs to all who would like one esp. Amani, Newleywed, Teecee and any other "old friends" on here.0 -
HI Dr J, nice too see you back on here. Sorry to hear about your problems, sorry cant help!!!

Hi Dr J - strangley enough I'm ringing Chelsea on Monday too - we could be on the line together lol!
Hmm not good with Citibank can understand from what you say while you wanted them off your back what have Payplan had to say? I think from trivia somewhere that Citibank have a lot of concerns in the American market so maybe they are getting a bit heavy - I have noticed on the board generally that Northern Rock seem heavy handed not sure if that is a coincidence was well.
So sorry no real words of wisdom here just a hello and wish you were back under brighter circumstances!0
