Oh great thread - I have a question too please: can I freeze hm custard? There are only 2 of us so it would be useful to make a batch and freeze it in portions to use with puddings. I do use a little cornflour in my custard, so it is 'stable'.

Hi all, quick question - I'm making up a batch of mince pies on Saturday and thought I could make some shepherd's pies at the same time BUT do you freeze them after you put the mash on but before you ovenbake them or not?

    Hi gargoyle :)

I've added your query onto our Freezing Quick Questions thread.

I normally make the pies up complete.

Some people then cook them off before freezing, others freeze first and then either defrost and cook, or even cook from frozen.

    The choice is yours :)

I'm not sure. It might separate on defrosting - though it can probably be recovered by whisking it.

There's only going to be one way to find out :) Why not just do a small amount extra next time you make it and do a test.

Not forgetting to come back here and let us know if it works OK :)

Use the link "Strictly vegetable" and then pick one of the tomato soups.

    You can either:-
    • Drop the tomatoes into hot water for a few seconds to make the skins easy to peel
    • Or make the soup with the tomatoes as is (defrosted though :)) and then press the whole soup through a seive. That way you get all the goodness from skin and pips but don't have them in the finished product.
After making your own tomato soup you'll never buy tinned stuff again!

I bought a large bag of value peppers but am not going to use them. Is it ok to freeze them if I remove the seeds and slice ?
