Can anyone help?
I bought some mackerel fillets (fresh, but packaged) from the supermarket. I didn't use them so bunged them straight in the freezer. Now I want to defrost them to cook, but reading the back (should have done that before! ) it says 'not suitable for freezing'. I think they were possibly frozen and defrosted before hitting the supermarket shelf.
Should I just chuck them? Or chance it?
I freeze mackerel fillets (vacuum packed) all the time and not had a problem - yet. As there are 2 of us and the fillets can sometimes be packed on 3s I have opened 2 packs and frozen in 2s as well as freezing the full pack. have done this for at least 5 yrs.

Hiya
I chop and take out the seeds of peppers that I am going to use in cooking then freeze them in a bag or container.
They are no good to eat raw or in a salad after freezing, as they go soggy.
Some people freeze them on a tray first then put them in a bag, as they are easier to get out (they tend to freeze together the way I do it and you have to bash them to break some off, but I'm lazy!)
Sorry, not sure about courgettes, but as they are soft too, I would imagine they would work in the same way...

Sorry guys,
Just another quickieFollowing on from my above post #253. Exlibris (or anyone) could you help?
Re: post #256, Would you say that the same applies to all fish/seafood (not just fresh mackerel)? If it says "not suitable for freezing, may have been previously frozen and defrosted" I should ignore it. It should be ok to freeze?
Just curious! Thanks!Jan 2015 Grocery Challenge £185.10/£5000 -
