Is it ok to freeze packets of sliced meat for sandwiches, usually i open the packet use about 3 or 4 slices and have a couple of slices left over that inevitably gets thrown away.

Yes - but if you only use a few slices at a time, why not use 'leaves' of cut up cereal inners to separate the slices before you freeze them?
  • Hi all,

I often buy the cheap bags of carrots as they are cheaper but end up throwing a lot a way as there are only two of us and they go funny before we can use them - not very MSE! I was wondering if it would be ok to peal them, slice them and then freeze them and just pop them straight in boiling water whenever we want them? And would this work with other veg?

    Thanks,

    Mrs W

    Hi,

Yes its fine to do that. Works with just about all veg as well.

Courgettes go abit soggy buy fine when mixed in with something else.

We've got an allotment so we freeze quite abit of veg or one sort or another. :D

Yes just chop and freeze. This is what I do every week. It also means its less work when making the next few meals.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
  • Thanks both, this will come in handy as there is only two of us and veg often gets wasted as it goes funny quicker than we can use it. One more MSE trick I have learnt! :D

  • Just a quick one - will pasta sauce (Ragu or Dolmio etc) freeze OK?
I got some bargain sauces for 49p from B&M today but the jar is too big for me to use as a single person in one go.

    Thanks!
  • I often freeze a half can of tomatoes, if I don't need a whole can.

I would freeze pasta sauce in a bag with no hesitation. To make it even easier, you can cook an extra portion of pasta to go with it for a home-made ready meal to eat when you fancy it.

I often freeze portions of pasta & sauce for my DD (now 2.5 yrs). Then defrost overnight in fridge, when needed. I always pack it in ziploc-type bags.

    Hope this helps, RdB x

I came on to ask the same question and found this thread so I'm glad I'm not the only one trying to freeze my discounted veg. I have mini carrots, fine beans and tender stem broccoli to freeze so can I just throw them in as they are? I have read elsewhere that I need to blanch them first!
