Im sorry if this is the wrong board but I need to ask:
I'm not a great cook but am getting there! I brough some fresh mince, put it in freezer then yesterday i defrosted it, stuck it in a chilli con carne and planned on eating it all today. But I've done too much lol
A Friend said i could now freeze the chilli - Is that right?! I didnt think you ccould re-freeze meat that had previously been frozen but they said because i'd cooked it then it was fine?!
Help!
Thanks!0 -
You're fine to refreeze it as it's changed its state - ie it is now cooked.
If you defrosted it, then froze it raw, that's where the danger comes in.
Ill look you up some threads in a bit, just getting dinner here.
But yes, freeze away in portions as long as it's cool

Thanks again!0 -
Sorry!!!!
yes, it's changed state so you are fine to freeze
I take it you are new to batch cooking etc? I try to every weekend, make a batch of something and freeze a portion or two in individual meal sizes. Then midweek i take it out at night, defrost safely in the fridge, then have for dinner. Saves hassle for those extra busy days. My freezer has soup, pilau rice, Curries, lentil dahl, spag bol and other stuff im sure - for less disorganised or lazy days.:p
Honestly, if you get into the habit of it, you can really build up a good supply in no time
here's some threads to start you off

LOVE my breadmaker but it's just me and OH and we don't eat a lot of bread...if I make a loaf for weekend breakfasts, by Sunday afternoon I end up throwing away a good half a loaf because it's going stale and we're not going to use it.
I freeze bought sliced bread for easy toast on mornings when I can't face fruit and yogurt (heehee!) and wondering how HM bread freezes? I'd love to use my breadmaker more often and I think I would if I knew I wouldn't end up throwing away half of the loaf.0 -

Yeah, just slice it first and then freeze it. I do this all the time.
I have a microwave safe toast rack and stand my one or two slices in it - then set my microwave to defrost for 1 min. Works a treatKitchen Craft Classic Collection Ceramic Toast Rack, 17cm x 10cm x 7cm

Inspired by The Great British Bake Off I am going to be making a Tarte au Citron this weekend. Trouble is as there is only two of us we won't be able to eat it all at once, so was wondering if it would be possible to freeze what's left. Or would it be better to make individual ones and freeze them seperately, rather than a large one.
Any help would be appreciatedMortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

This is our favourite dessert - DS1 adores them.
I make individual ones - little flan cases about 12cm across and freeze the happily - one of the 12cm tarts cut in two is perfect for a treat.
BTW I open freeze them, pop them back in to the flan cases and wrap them well in greaseproof then store in a rigid box so they don't get bashed in the freezer rummage IYSWIM - short pastry and clumsy boys do not a good mix make

You could make a large one, slice it and freeze then you just take a slice out when needed
I open freeze cakes and flans as well then put them into cereal boxes, they are good because you can use the waxed paper inners (washed of course) and then slide into the box and seal.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
