You can but the water content is so high that it ruins it a bit, goes very mushy. You could freeze it in chunks for making smoothies or make it into a quick sorbet http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/3340/watermelon+sorbet

I have also frozen it in the past - it makes fantastically refreshing smoothies :D.

Watermelon grantia is lovely, and easier to make than sobet or ice cream because it's supposed to be grainy :)

When wondering if things will freeze I always ask myself "can this be bought frozen?". Watermelon can be found in frozen fruit salad so the answer is yes. If you've ever had frozen fruit salad this will give you an idea as to the resultant texture, etc.

Melon smoothies are fab. I confess I haven't tried watermelon, but fresh or frozen canteloupe/honeydew in a liquidiser/blender on its own produces something so lush it's like its got cream in it - well worth a go.

Ok this sounds wrong but need confirmation!

If I cook mince, then freeze, then defrost and turn it into shepherds pie etc am I right in thinking I cant then freeze the pie to eat later???

Guess that would be double freezing so must be wrong

  • Yes are correct. You would be freezing a cooked product twice. You could makethe mash and freeze then assemble as shep pie when you want to eat it though
