emiliah - Before I started making my own EasiYo Greek Yoghurt, I always used Total Greek Yoghurt and found that sealed tubs would keep in the fridge perfectly OK for about 3 or 4 weeks after the Sell By date on the tub..0

I wonder if anyone could tell me if it's ok to freeze greek yogurt.
As we live so far from town I only do a shop once a month so would be great if I could freeze a few tubs.

Like Primrose I find big (1kg) tubs of yoghurt will last best part of a month without any trouble.

What did you do in the end?
Slowly in the fridge is meant to be the best way; at room temperature if needed. In water is quicker but, supposedly, has risks in that the temperature increase is enough to kick start the bugs breeding.
Personally I've defrosted stuff in water, cold not hot, when I haven't had enough time for the other ways and it hasn't killed me yet ;-)

I had to wing it and hope for the best as I am cooking dinner today for my brother and friend. I kept it in the pack, and put it in a bowl of water and left it out overnight - and put it in the fridge when i got up today. I have only ever defrosted a chook once, and that's how the butxher told me to do it
It is cooking as we speak, so fingers crossed I don't give them food poisoning. The way today is going, I wouldn't genuinely be surprisedA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men :cool:

Many thanks for your replies ladies. Did my shop today and bought some extra pots, so will keep fingers crossed.
If it does go a bit funny, can always use it as a marinade for tandoori chicken.

Have you thought of making your own yogurt? There's a whole thread on it elsewhere, but you get lovely, thick, good-quality yogurt at a fraction of the cost, and you could make it as needed. It's very easy to make it with an electric yogurt-maker, and it can be made using UHT milk so you don't even need to take up freezer-space with the ingredients :-)0 -
I've found some burgers hiding in the back of the freezer. I bought these fresh and they would have been put in the freezer before the best before date but that was in January! Are they edible?0

Almost certainly yes, meat doesn't go off as such in the freezer but sometimes the texture will deteriorate but six months isn't really that long. Assuming that you can smell you will be able to tell once defrosted if they are off but having been in the freezer there is very little chance of this.0

I am planning on making up a batch of tomato sauce with "hidden vegetables" in to use when I make pizza for the kids but does anyone know if it would be suitable to freeze? I was going to make it from onions, broccoli, carrots and tinned tomatoes and blend it smooth after cooking. Other than freezing it, I could bottle it but that is much more hassle and I would need to find some small portion jars! Anyone tried freezing it before?0
