I'm in a bit of a quandry here. It looks like the E-on EnergyOnline Extra Saver 5 tariff will be less expensive overall than my current EDF Online V3, but the electricity component of the E-on tariff is hugely more expensive than EDF.

I currently use 14,500kWh for gas, and 2,600kWh for electricity per year. On EDF this works out at £455.64 and £251.90 respectively. On E-on, this is quoted as £403.42 and £314.25 respectively.

I've looked at single fuel quotes, but although I can reduce the electricity cost, the gas cost increases significantly.

The trouble is, there are far too many tariffs and variables, and I'm not convinced that the comparison sites show an accurate picture.

    Hi Geoff,

Although the comparison sites are good guide I never go on their say-so alone - I always do my own calculations. Firstly use the comparison sites to get a rough list of the companies that may be cheapest for you and then go to their websites and hunt out their current prices for the tariff you want. Then make your own calculations based on these prices and your consumption. That way you can be sure you have the correct figures before you make any decisions.

    Regards

I do have a spreadsheet into which I plug the tariffs, but it's sometimes difficult to allow for the discounts, as these aren't always clearly stated, or else they're a % reduction on your bill. Some utility companies don't make it easy to find their tariff details, either.

At the moment I seem to be spending hours and hours on the computer trawling through the mire. I didn't retire early just to waste my life trying to keep up with this lot. It's getting worse than trying to find the best mobile phone tariff!

Quite. It's all too easy to get caught up in money saving as an end in itself. I've been there - I guess many others have too, and it gives a lot of satisfaction knowing you've bagged a great deal. But at the same time, there's more to life than money saving !

I guess it is a case of getting a balance between getting a good deal (which can be reasonably quickly) and getting the best deal which can take forever !

I signed up to eon as it was showing a saving of £174 against EDF. Then I find out I have to pay £46 as I have an independent gas transporter. Surely they can tell that from my post code so they should include it in the comparison site quote.

    Very sneaky.

Same problem with me. E-on would save me money but then charge me about £40 for being a IGT. Hardly worth switching for me.
  • Hi,

I've just joined Quidco (never used them before), to sign up to E-on saver 5 tariff.

I did most of the stuff recommended on the Quidco site e.g. deleting cookies and followed the link

Is there anything else I should be aware of, or need to do to help ensure I get the £70 cashback? Can I track the Quidco transaction in any way, because I didn't seem to get any confirmation that the Quidco link had been accepted - should I get a confirmation or do I just wait for my £70 ?

Thanks - any advice for a quidco newbie very welcome !

I'm suprised that you managed to sign up on E-ON as others are reporting problems on the eon web site

Providing you have logged on to Quidco used the link to E-on then all being well you should see the following in your earnings for February (can take a few hours to show up)

Thanks - it is showing up as described on my quidco account

Yes I definitely had problems on the Quidco website signing up and following the link to Eon which is partly why I was concerned it hadn't work.

Happy with my £70 for half an hour's work. Thanks to all on this site !:T

Don't forget you will also need to set up your quidco account to receive your money via BACS for this one, ie put your bank account details in the My settings bit. It takes about 3/4 months for the money to come though and be paid from past experience
