Can someone please clarify for me whether the reasons StayWarm kick out Users is high usage or the number of rooms??
My parents were booted off last year and the reasons given was of the number of rooms - if there were more than 3 bedrooms then they were not eligible?? I rang StayWarm a few months ago to ask whether they would reconsider and they denied once again on the basis of the number of rooms. They even adviced me to ask my parents to move house!
I would be interested to hear if I have been told porkies??
Thanks
We (two of us) are currently in a two bedroomed house and hopefully will be moving into a three bed later this year. I phoned staywarm to confirm what I already knew.
They base their charge on :-
*number of people in house
*number of bedrooms
*postcode
plus of course one of the residents has to be "of age" and in our case one of us is registered disabled.
When I said, "what if we inadvertantly use more than you define as an acceptable limit", and was told they would up our premium. I asked if I would be given a gentle prod before this happened and was told "no".This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hello,
I am in the same situation - a huge price hike. I spoke to Staywarm today and there is no moving them. I did ask how GAS cubic feet was translated into kw/hours and was told to multiply the no. of units used by 31.75.
My payment has gone from £72 pm to £107 pm which I will find very hard. I did say that gas had come down in price over the last year - was told yes it had but by a small percentage and there had been a bigger increase. I was also told that prices for both fuels are expected to increase by over 40% next year.
It was indicated that in my area (it does vary) the average gas consumption is 25000 pa and that I had used 27000 odd which put me in the higher bracket.
I begin to wonder whether there is any point in Staywarm at all. It certainly does not give the much vaunted 'peace of mind' when all I can think about is how to decrease my consumption of gas!0 -
The "peace of mind" is stable bills. The price of this is that they seem to be inordinately high nowadays. It has not been a "social tariff" for a long time. I think we will be moving when the renewal comes up later this year.0

I have just had my new tarrif for next year and it has gone up from £87.68 to £122.77 a massive 40%. I changed to EDF online V5 on day I got the letter, via topcashback to give me £60 cashback0

New bill through for Oct 2009. Monthly payment to increase from £95 to £101.50. (was £79 year before this).
Last 12 months consumption as follows:
Electricity Total 4636.29 KWH
Electricity Day 4206 KWH
Electricity Night 430 KWH
Gas 13090 KWH.
Is it worth switching as £1218 a year for a 2 bedroom house seems a bit steepTwins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -

I rang Staywarm today to enquire where my meter readings had come from as the gas was less than half of the readings that I had been taking monthly. My reading was 16669 Kwh and theres was 7957Kwh. The electric was not too far out. They looked into it and the last gas meter reading they had was from December 2008. The electric was from June 2009. Apparently the electric usage of 4342Kwh is high and puts me into a higher pricing bracket, even though I have gas central heating, cooker and even the shower runs from the gas boiler. As I was only just above the lower threshold they decided I could stay with the lower price bracket and revised my renewal to £93.69 which at only £5 extra I am reasonably happy with so I have cancelled my move to EDF.
How they can send out renewal letters with meter readings so out of date I don't know. I expected them to say it was even more than the original quote when I gave them the new figures.0 -
Please can someone help. I have received a letter from Eon Staywarm today saying they have a new plan, "WarmAssist" and that this will be MUCH cheaper for me than Staywarm if I qualify, as my usage is too high.
It shows an example of Average Annual Renewal price as £2054!!!!!! with Staywarm and on WarmAssist £1325.
I have been to Uswitch and entered my usage for last year as supplied by Staywarm: (I haven't as yet rec. this past years reading, but I do take monthly readings myself, if this would help)
Electricity 3589 Kilowatt hours (Oct 08 to Oct 09)
Gas 16608 "
Is this very high?
However Uswitch says I could save nearly £500 a year if I moved to Scottish Power Dual Fuel. Can this possibly be true? I really would be so grateful for some help as I just cannot afford to make some expensive mistake!

Gatita. We need to know which area you are in to be able to work out the Electricity costs which vary area by area.0
-
As Dr John says exact numbers will vary by region but you should certainly be able to receive that amount of fuel for about £1000 per year (£900 to £950 for direct debit tariffs, £1000 to £1050 for quarterly payments.)
By the way, I don't think your Stay Warm renewal price will be anything like £2054! I hope that was just a dumb mass mailing? You have a modest, average consumption. Remember there is no penalty to leave Stay Warm if you don't like your actual renewal quote.0 -

Marketed to the vulnerable and less savvy. More expensive than the cheapest tariffs. Sure sounds like a 'social' tariff to me.0
