The usage figures they gave me when I was on Staywarm about 3 years ago were complete rubbish, I had been taking my own readings monthly so that I had some figures to compare other tarriffs with at the year end. The amounts they said I had used were loads more than the actual amounts from my meter readings. The best way is to keep track of the usage yourself.

And mine was even worse than Millies. They had me down as having an imperial meter when it was actually metric. This meant they had me down as a heavy user and threw me off. When I got energy watch involved they corrected their error and invited me back. By then I was in discision with Scotish Power which saved me over £270/year. For MOST people Staywarm is no longer a good option as it was a few years back.

Good idea. Unfortunately, the exact date the meters were read is not given. It just states "Usage over the last 12 months with StayWarm.!"

Staywarm's bad meter reading works the other way too.

My new charges for next year were based on a 15 month old gas reading, taken only 8 months after I'd moved into my new house. So the gas consumption was only 40% of actual and my new charges correspondingly less than they would otherwise have been.

Last year Staywarm had me down as the following readings
Day-75991 but real one was 1697=74294 over
Night-34722 but real one was 13795=20927 over
So as you can see from these readings it just seems hit or miss with them
  • Looking back on earlier postings on this thread it seems that StayWarm's increases for 2008 are between 30% and 39% over their charges for 2007.

I am trying to estimate what they would have charged me for gas and electricity for 2008, based upon paying £113.41 for 2007 (2 people in a 4 bedroom house) and I am wondering if any list member has any information that may improve on my estimates, based upon a minimum 30% increase.

  • The increases do seem to be similar what other supplier upped their prices by.

The problem if the prices drop next year as seems to be likely, you get tied into a years contract with staywarm and ours starts/stops in November.
  • We left StayWarm in January 2007 and I am very pleased that we did so. I am now trying to work out what we have saved by changeing suppliers.

Keep number crunching Alan. I'd be very interested in your results. You can see from my post above what I saved by moving from Staywarm to Scottish Power and I was lucky enough to just scrape into a fixed rate 'till 2011 at last Febs prices a couple of months back.
