Changes To StayWarm

My OH's mother in law was on this Staywarm as she is 79. She asked me the other day to check to see If I could get it any cheaper as she saw Martin on TV about. She was getting charged £62.00 per month for a 1 bedroom flat by E.ON.
I have got her signed up onto Southern Electric for a fixed price of £45.00 per month and also it is capped until 2010 when in no doubt that I will be looking for her again to get her a cheaper deal. So basically I've managed to reduce her bill from £744 pa to £540 pa. Over the year I think that that is a great saving and that she would be pleased as she as gone ahead and signed up for it.0 -
Thanks for that. I pay something like £62 per month to Staywarm.Several times this week I've had people touting for business and thought Staywarm couldn't be beaten. I'm half expecting Martin to make mention of this company as many of us use it for dual usage.
The thing is exactly WHO do you phone for quotes, they all seem to make theirs sound the best. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I seem to remember a conversation with you in Oct 06 (Page 4 of this thread) and offering to help you work out your usage the following April. You said "No doubt this thread will still be around so I'll be able to find you" But you never did :-)) But you were to be paying £80 then and only £62 now. You may have a job beating that.0

To get the best quote i used a few comparison sites and tried to get the average of the best sites that I went to. Southern Electric seemed to came out best for my OhH's mother in law and as it is capped until 2010 then it has reduced and also saved her some money in the process.0 -
mickseal , i have been quoted £65 by staywarm through eon last month but after reading your note about seouthern thought i w ould check their details/prices on line found capped till 2010 ( i thought all htese had been stopped) but not at a fixed monthly amount for the elderly. Could you point me in the right direction ? I thought staywarm were the only ones doing this type of deal but did you find others apart from SE. Getting a bit confused after reading martins original staywarm notes.
Many thanks0 -

At that price I'd bite their hands off - compared to the prices some people have been quoted (some, three times that!).0 -
Aunt is paying £73 a month at the moment with Staywarm. Her new price from September is £95 a month.
Her quote is based on a 2 bed house with 3 residents.
Her usage for the past year is:
Gas 13320 kwh
Electric day 3880kwh
Electric Night 523 kwh
Should she switch?
what happens if she uses more than estimated with a new company, would she get a big bill at the end of the fixed term?Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
I'd say she could save three or four hundred pounds by not staying with Staywarm. She would save even more if those consumption figures are larger than essential and would be reduced further when not an a flat-rate tariff.
And with those night electricity figures make sure she does not join an Economy 7 tariff.
Of course, if you end up using more, you will pay more. But £780 or £830 on a standard tariff for that consumption is a lot less than £1160 with Staywarm. (For an accurate quotation you'll have to throw the figures in to a calculator yourself as electricity prices are regional.)0 -
I have decided to go back to Staywarm have been quoted £87.58 today for 3 bedroom semi. I am currently paying £68 a month and that was before the last round of price increases so for the peace of mind over the winter it seems like a reasonable deal, apparently there is no minimum contract just need to give 30 days notice so I will take monthly meter readings to keep a check on consumption, and will cancel if I don't think it is working out any cheaper. It will be nice not to be sitting feeling cold and scared to put the heating on because of the cost.0

Is that in a private or company capacity?
This could be deleted as the post it referred to has gone by the looks of it. (it looks a bit odd all on it's own0
