Thanks
They do use a lot more electric during the day than at night, last years figures according to E.ON are 4426kWh for day use and 780kWh for night use.
Their yearly gas last year was 26473kWh
So they use almost exactly 15% of the total electricity on off-peak(780/5206)
Using a Sheffield post code the cheapest dual fuel(non Economy 7) tariff for their consumption was OVO at £1,651.
On an E7 tariff using 15% on off-peak, the cheapest tariff was again OVO at £1,673 - i.e. £22 more.
If they could raise their off-peak usage to 25% by using appliances on timers or on early morning, the OVO cost would be £1,646 ie £5 cheaper.
IMO it is not worth the hassle to remain on E7 but the point is that there is very little difference in the overall prices between E7 and non-E7.0 -

Thanks for the reply and sorry for not replying earlier.
£1651 is the figure I got too which is cheaper than what they are paying now, I've been telling them for years that Staywarm is more involved and isn't cheap energy but they are very fixed in their ways and liked the security of it.
There's absolutely no chance of them running appliances at night on timers as they are very adamant on not running them when nobody's awake to check on them (when I pointed out they already do that with the fridge-freezer they didn't really get the point).
I also would prefer them off of Economy 7, apart from it being cheaper to be on a standard fixed tariff it will mean that in the future they will be able to switch to any supplier without having to worry about whether the suppliers software can add two numbers together.
