    Hi snowcat

The Warm Home Discount scheme isn't related to Staywarm or any particular tariff. Rather, it's a government led initiative designed to help electricity customers likely to be at risk of fuel poverty.

For 2011/12, the rebate has been set at £120 for those eligible. This is set by the Department of Works and Pension.

I posted some info about the Warm Home Discount on another thread that might be of interest. It's at the following link (post 71).

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3535755

There's also a dedicated page on our website under 'Existing Customers.'

Hope you find this useful snowcat. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

My 90 year old mother is on the staywarm tariff and is paying £123.73 per month. I have checked some of the comparison sites but the staywarm tariff isn't included so what is the best way of finding out whether it is worth switching?

The plan is due to end on 14th January 2013 so I assume she will have to wait until then before anything can be done.

Nothing to stop someone moving from Staywarm at any time if they wish .As to whether a normal plan would be cheaper you would need to know readings over a period ..preferably a long Summer and Winter period and work out how much another suppliers costs would be .
  • It is tricky to compare. The trouble is they only state the customers previous usage (kWh), either actual or estimated, once per year, in the renewal letter. If you lose this letter then you cannot fall back on the amounts paid because that was not directly based on any usage.

Even if you can find the letter it will not include any of the meter readings it was based on. So if you need to work out recent usage you need to start from scratch with recording your own readings over a long enough period.

However, I dont know if they might tell you their meter readings if specifically asked. If not, maybe you can force them to via a data request?

    Hi JanCee

No need to wait. As molley says, your mum can come off Staywarm at any time.

Although her usage is not billed against actual meter readings, we do keep a record of them. They're used when sorting out renewals.

If you've consent to act on your mum's behalf, just give us a call and we'll be happy to let you know details of her usage. If not, your mum can call and authorise you to act for her or we can tell her the details.

Alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll be happy to take a look.

Thank you for responding Malc. I have found the letter advising her of the revised monthly payment so I do now have some idea of her annual usage. Before I take any further action can you confirm that there wouldn't be any penalty if she switched supplier before the contract finishes on 14th January 2013.
  • Hi JanCee

Yes, can definitely confirm, there'll be no penalty for switching supplier before the end of your mum's Staywarm contract.

How do I set up with E-on an authorization that enables me to act on her behalf?
